I disassemble the fan in the fall, clean it and store with a cover. I don't think spraying liquid on a electical device is wise.

Exactly, you can simply disassemble it and wash all pieces and let them DRY COMPLETELY before you put it back together

No vinegar gets rid of rust

The white vinegar has to cover all of the item! I really let my screws soak for 3 days then put cooking oil on them and they still haven't rusted and it's been since November!
