The F-14 always looks like it's got a mind of its own.

GS used the original Top Gun move in round 3. He hit the brakes and the F15 flew right by him.

I love watching GS dominate in the Tomkitty, and then I hop in the F-14 on my own and do the same style fight with not quite as good results. All that goes to show, is that Growling Sidewinder is incredibly good at dogfighting.

Hot damn, that Cobra maneuver was something else! I would like to see the 3rd person view of this whole fight please!

Not only will the Tomcat do everything, it will look good doing it.

Wow, Bane really gave a great performance in this one. It's awesome to watch two pilots at the top of their game nearly evenly matched.

I was prepared to be a little let down when he took your 6 in round 3. You snatched victory right out of the teeth of defeat. Perfection on utilizing the cobra, you were cooked otherwise, and like you always say you only pull that maneuver when you are out of options. Awesome fight!

What an excellent video/pairing! The length of round 1 and the back and fourth, the Eagle coming back from the brink in Round 2, and finally the cobra for the win in Round 3! I enjoy all your dogfight videos, but this has to be one of the best.

I like how each aircraft was able to showcase its “signature move.”

I love how in the span of a few seconds you decide that a cobra is optimal and it works. That’s some real Tom Cruise stuff right there

I can't believe they have never made a Super Tomcat with stealth, updated systems, etc. Not only was the F 14 the coolest fighter, but one of the best designs.

The thing is about the Tomcat is it probably wouldn’t have been replaced by the F/A18 on mass if the F14 was a fixed wing aircraft. A lot of the F14’s performance comes from it’s variable geometry but that same feature also dug it’s grave in terms of cost and maintenance

It’s not that he couldn’t. It just wouldn’t be flight worthy, the only F14’s left that are flightworthy are in Iranian service. All museum pieces and F14’s in the boneyard have been stripped of components

Props to the F-15 for fighting the first round with gear down

AS much as you love the TomCat...just know we love you for flying it for us. Always fun to watch and learn from you.

Silly question perhaps, but I noticed the F-14 in DCS and even in the original Top Gun movie makes a point of showing a lot of buffeting/vibration from within the cockpit. I've not seen it much on the other DCS fights on this channel. Is that unique to the F-14 more so than other planes? Perhaps only when the wings are in low speed mode, etc? Great post as always.

I think they could have run with the Super Tomcat F-14 with update avionics

I actually like the BFM gunfights more than BVR. That's what dogfights were in World War 2, World War 1, and the Korean War.

Been a while since i could watch DCS content again, but man i love me some ratefighters in the F-14 and -15, it's always a guessing game who'll slot into whose 6.. also, im hoping for the day we get the F-14D and get that sweet blue paint scheme ive seen of those in

Great show. 14v15 is awesome. Two cold war era beasts. And the F-15 was designed with a lifting body. The fuselage alone provides about 30% of its lift.

The F14 has very similar lift properties which contributes to their similar flight performance

Landing gear down during combat is sometimes used to indicate a wish to surrender, but IDK why the Eagle pilot'd do that in a DCS fun dogfight.

Can never get enough of the rattling and squeaking in the hard turns.

Hey GS, the new AOA Buffet option may give you an advantage in combat, it is alot less shaky and smoother than the old one. It's in the special options menu under F-14.

GS, I know you said you didn't prefer them, but it'd be great to see you load up 15 AIM-152 GDW AAAMs on an F-14D Tomcat and take on a bunch of Flankers or Fulcrums over the ocean, or something like that. It'd be awesome to see a quasi-Super Tomcat 21 in action!

Talking about guns only, patience, and loving an airplane that’ll do what you tell it to do even if it means breaking the aircraft (no FCS), you’d think we’d see more WWII stuff!

The swing wings on the Tomcat, while one of its great assets, also hurts it in a couple areas. The maintenance of the hydraulic systems was a nightmare, but it also means you can't hang any ordnance on them. Makes you wonder if Grumman had eliminated them for a Supertomcat, if it would have swung things in its favor away from the fat hornet. Stick a set of F4 Phantom wings on the Tomcat and see how she looks.
