I think it is funny that everytime it's discussed why the egyptians built their pyramids and statues and whatnot the most obvious reason is avoided. They made it for for their descendants and anyone else who came after them to remember their feats.

Some of the statues show they are holding what is known as "cylinders of the pharaoh" made from copper and zinc tubes filled with quartz when held produce up to 1.5 volts. Make them yourself or get them on Amazon or Etsy.

The photography of the new series is fabulous but I regret that the BBC really blew a fuse when they selected the hosts. I think the original Civilisation with Kenneth Clark was infinitely better. I'm afraid the new Civilisations series was a wonderful opportunity that has been wasted.

What you say maybe true, but answer who made these statutes. Secondly notice the column placements. No machine of any type could fit between, or in front, or back to form the column. However, a giant could work the area easily. In addition, they had no equipment to complete the job.

Interesting theories, but I feel she is mistaken. The primary reason for depiction of the Pharaoh within private spaces would almost certainly have been for the viewership of the gods themselves, as well as to ensure the literal immortality of the Pharaoh through image and name. Remember, in ancient Egyptian religion, the name and image was extremely important in maintaining continued existence after death (think mummification, inscription of tomb walls, and the iconoclasm against the name and image of those - both human and god - unfavored). Therefore, the more statues you have with your name on them, the better chance of an afterlife.

As much as I like and respect this imminent historian, I think she forgets one thing. The belief of the Egyptians that pharaoh was divine. If he was around Maát (justice) ruled. And even the NIle flowed because of him. So these statues like those of the Gods are a sign of their superhuman quality.

Ancient Egyptian language was a Bantu language. Its closest relative was Old Nubian (birthed Meroetic). Yet both are speculated according to European and Arab sensibilities as Afroasiatic (Egyptian) and Nilo-Saharan (Old Nubian) despite the fact that no Linguist has ever formally classified either language in those families. Greenberg back in 1954 mentioned that there is a striking similarity between Old Egyptian vocabulary and East African Bantu vocabulary. Alan Gardner; the foremost authority on Middle Egyptian said that there is no relationship between Semitic and Ancient Egyptian. Gardner said this in 1958; until Ancient Egyptian is compared to other East African language (which Europeans refused to do) Egyptian cannot be classified as an Afroasiatic language. The Wikipedia article on the subject claims that "Ancient Egyptian is distantly related to Proto-Afroasiatic". A disception since every human language is distantly related to all proto-languages. Cheik Anta Diop also studied Ancient Egyptian finding that it is within the family of his own Wolof, thus concluding that Ancient Egyptian was an East African language either related to Bantu or to Nilo-Saharan. Dr Obenga working on the grammar of Middle Egyptian formulated by Alan Gardner classified Egyptian as a Bantu language. Please google Fergus Sharman the renowned British lingusits. In his peer-reviewed paper published in 2012 he classified Ancient Egyptian language as a Bantu language. This makes sense since the population of Ta Seti, Naqata (Nubia/Upper Egypt) came from Nabta Playa in the border between modern Sudan and Libya (i.e. Eastern Sahara) a place where Bantu people also originate between 8000 to 6000 years ago before migrating to the Middle East, Nile Valley and East Africa debunking the European theory that Bantu originate in the Cameroon

it's much deeper than that, they wanted to live forever basically, if the statue of you lives on then you live on, that's why they'd get their noses knocked off, because angry people wanted to prevent them from breathing, if it's a giant statue for all to see then yeah it's about being boastful, but in private..yeah there's no reason to have them just to boost your self-esteem haha, there's other ways to do that, unless they were constructed as a gift, that's possible, what do you get the pharaoh that has everything? well you could build a statue of him looking really cool, or even build him his own temple, the gifts would get bigger and grander as people tried to out-due one another and win favor, and the older a pharoah got the more god-like he was seen, so things got really crazy in terms of selling an image to build up your importance, look at the divas today, these singers are backed by such propaganda that they appear as demi-gods to sell records, heck they even have their own Egyptian-style music videos..but that's another topic

I wish to see a crazy miracle like all ancient Egyptians to return back to life or even a pharaoh to fight Cuz that will be awesome!!! Could that even happen??? I wonder and I believe in the ancient culture of Egypt, as a matter of fact, I am one of the few in Egypt whose family still remember the true past of Egypt and the ancient languages and I say languages because there are two ancient languages but six ways of writing these two languages, but everyone out there is thinking that we have only one ancient language and the ways of writing is not truly understood in the most appropriate way at the so-called Egyptolegyies said ..... No one knows the truth at all but someday you will all find the truth through the hard way of miracles and when that happens, you are going to wish that you were never even born if you have insulted our culture or insulted us as Egyptians in general .... the truth is unbelievable even if I say it by all the knowledge which you think you have for so-called civilizations, which is a stolen knowledge essentially from Egypt ..... All that you know of the history of science and modern civilization is actually is stolen from Egypt and you can find the proof in the nanotechnology which was used in ancient Egypt and as a matter of fact too I studied that technology in secret when I was 5 years old and I am more than 30 years old now, can you tell me how is it even possible when nanotechnology is supposed to be just discovered in this so-called modern era .... you think you know but you most surely Don't know anything at all ... you think we are gone but we're not and we will be the biggest surprise of the century. In fact, to write such things because I know no one would truly care.... but if you do Well here is a bonus gift ... the pyramids were built hundreds of thousands of years ago, and to be exact... It was built three hundred and six thousand years ago. The true Egyptians are which you call these days the descendent of the sky... those who got real and actual wings and can fly ... in the pat, the Egyptians were called and known as the nation of the angles because the way we lived and there have been actual ancient cities in the sea which you called Atlantis these days and yes the mermaids are real if you believe in such things... and it is not the first time for movies or songs or that entire technology to appear ..... in the true and long history that I have studied that did actually exist before a long time ago ... you see we live in what people call today a circle from technology to be lost and to exist over and over again so yeah it's a very very long time that has past ... and by the way, we hate the term mermaids because the word "maids" is always to represent a servent and it sounds to us insulting as Egyptians, we use in our languages words which mean in general the flowers of the see. And yes we believe in god because we are descendent of you know how... for all I know I am just waiting for a Miracle to remember who I was in ancient time and when that happens, Egypt with all due respect to the great people but we love to live kind of isolated when it comes to visitors that is a fact through all of our ancient history. The image of reality is missed up by many the truth is hidden but that doesn't mean that it will be hidden forever ... someday we all waiting for a Miracle but When that Happen and you actual Mummies walking and talking. Don't cry like movies just show some respect to a nation was never truly understood or appreciated for what they really are... and believe what you want and by the way, in ancient Egypt, you will find all skin white red black skin of rules who ruled Egypt and they all Egyptians.... take it easy... It's all beauty and must be respected or the insult is not for a person or nation it will become like a personal insult to god himself and these are many who talk as if these are Egyptians and they show no respect, those are not Egyptians at all... Hell, most of the time they are demons who want to hurt the name of the Egyptians and when I say demons I really mean what I say ... there are real demons who walk as people.. and even if I tell how to know the real person from that who is not ... you will probably abuse that knowledge and make problems with demons and they are not fair and they don't play nice at all... But think of it a feeling in soul that can tell you the difference between who is egyptian and who is demon and who is just a human ..... and by the way just you know these are demons everywhere walks as people even in the greaters places as Egypt espicailly in the media ... they claim to be Egyptians and to work for the goodness of their beloved Egypt but they're all liars ... they try to give another demons the chance to insult Egypt that's all ... you see it all unbelivale and yet it's all true ... and you might wander why all of this happens to the good people of Egypt when they are so great and the answer is that all of it is our patience and love, and our greatness and giving... to be in pain is a way to help as crazy as it may sound to you but yet that is the truth nontheless and to prove my claims I have a relative who lived as a king in ancient times of Egypt now he is just a football player ... with all do respect to the game I jsut wanted more for him, he knows all about ancient times and he remembers his past and if this homble and simle artical of mine gets to those who truly care ask him he playes in liverpool and he is king of famous their ask him if you dare ???hahaha Whould even dare to think of what I have said as any truth at all ... The only truth you will probably experience when finding out the truth will be pain and admiration and fear I suppose .... after all, It's only natural to end that way hahaha..... and you still think you know yeah right hahaha you know lies and nothing when coming to the truth and in this modern some time there is brother just another reincarnation from another country but he also remembers the past and it will be a good cache if you found of the truth that way. And just you know that another brother is also a king :) I am proud of both as two of the greatest rulers of Egypt.

For those that aren't paying close attention to this sort of history: It is quite obvious that Ramses 2 is being depicted as a god in these statutes. The gods are giants, and thus, you have to assume that Ramses 2 was a god. But, more importantly, you have to ask why was he a god? What are characteristics of a god did he have? What other clues, other than, the size of his statutes are there in the hieroglyphs, etc., are there that explaine why it is that he was a god? The presenter only gives you a very closed view of her 'opinion' of her supposed understanding of why the Ramses2 statutes were built. I think Ancient Aliens are more open about explaining the true possibilities of why such ancient structures were built . . .

Such Big lips and big wide nose are synonymous with the people that caucasians and Arabs describe and name as Black Africans or Sub Sahara African. Problem is, the history itself challenges and rubbishes the 100 plus years of ' work' done by our favorite self proclaimed experts. Therefore we must absolutely conclude the ancient Egyptian could not have been sub saharan African. They were 'copts' , europeans, romans, greeks ,, Arabs, or maybe even Berbers of North Africa. They could be any other race but definitely not black. Never mind the fact that its only Nubians who have matching dated artifacts -proving relation in culture, religion and lifestyle. Nothing found in Europe , nothing in Lybia or Morocco, nothing in Arabia. Nothing in Greece to match the dates like Nubia Sudan.

The African Americans that were transported mostly from west Africa had no history to cling to so they disparately are trying to claim Egyptians were black. Egyptians were caucasoids same as today and left arts and writing depicting clear differenes between them and African blacks. Mummies and writing every where in egypt proves the same. Egyptians are not black today or one thousand years ago or 5000 years ago. Historians do not pay attention to afrocentric black maniacs in America because they would claim that the moon was visited by Africans very time soon. If you have no history then claim one. That is what people that where migrated from west Africa few hundred years ago are thinking today. They have nothing to be proud of historically so they manufactured lies that do not stand a chance in the books of history and archeology. They see every thing in black white or yellow. So if a civilization on the medeterranian that is not built by European master's must be built by blacks..what a non logic
