    One of 4, actually. The other three were in India, China and what is now Peru, I think. Much of the other three has been laid to ruin or has been overtaken by flora. The pyramids were actually perfectly smooth like metal - they were covered in limestone, were nicely polished and shiny. The rough bricks that we see today are a result of an earthquake that loosened the facades. Then the limestone/other precious materials were taken/stolen to build other structures. Actually, what we called “Egypt” back then was the lush, heavily populated green valley along the nile comparable to the fertile crescent. Egypt was not the desert, as no civilization can thrive in the desert, but rather an eden-like paradise full of fruits and bursting with crops. The sandy desert towns portrayed here are more like the work camps near giza but definitely not the mainstream of egypt

    No camels, in reality Egyptian cities were almost entirely along the nile, not in the desert areas, and it would have been much more lush and green, as the flooding of water and rich silt irrigated and fertilised the soil every year. Also they painted the statues, walls and reliefs bright, bright pigments. This all looks a bit dull and crumbling, Egypt as we know it today, not as it was then.

That was the last gasp of Ancient Egypt, when much of its ancient monuments by all (even those fairly unbiased) accounts of the time admitted they were crumbling from age and weathering. I would have chosen an early period, and shown more of what city life looked like. Of when the capital was Thebes in the south.

    Blame the dark ages & catholic rule for the "man over women" concept... Ancient rome & egypt both had relatively equal rights for women & men... Many of our modern masc and fem concepts would scare them! Women could get divorced, own land and inherit from her mom or dad... When "Christianity" swept across europe, they set their royalty up on middle eastern Judaic/arabic concepts like man over women... These are the same middle easterners who perfected the art of slavery...

  • @helenbrown7440

    @helenbrown7440

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@vinnie9458 it's funny you say "common knowledge" but actually gladiators were often treat as prized possessions and celebrities. Not bearly as many were fought to the death as you'd think. A lot of them were showmen, were paid huge wages and were adored by the public and set free. Often they'd fight with blunt instruments and be instructed not to kill each other. In fact, before Rome became Roman Catholic Christians there were actually LESS executions because there were less laws. Also with the bibles role in defending slavery it actually became much more widely practiced AFTER mass conversions, gladiators were also killed more often because "God" condoned it, or they were "sinners". Hollywood has unfortunately painted a very one-sided picture. Also the pyramids were NOT built by slaves. This is one of the most common historical misconceptions, entire workers camps were found and excavated around several pyramids and from that they were able to discover the workers were actually paid a great wage, finding coins, pots, items that belonged to them, jewellery- as well as being given full board (a place to live) and finding bakeries/bread makers and breweries on site. For many years the idea that slaves built the pyramids has been disbanded as not only whole heartedly inaccurate but also pretty impossible. Just as when the Imperial Japanese soldiers had trouble with infrastructure built by Brits/Australian prisoners/slaves in the 1940's- slave labour doesn't actually produce excellent engineering and craftsmanship. You see, im a solicitor but no matter how hard you may abuse me I won't suddenly know how to build a quality super car. The people who worked on the pyramids were often master engineers that were shipped in from far and wide- as far as we can tell it was a great honour to work on the pyramids. It's interesting that you chose these two examples without research just because they're wide spread fallacies. It's also a common trait of people that carry the "God" gene. Your insinuation that women were better under Christianity is absolutely terrifying. In my country we were ruled by the norse people and under them had equal voting rights, impartial courts, "ethical" taxes, humane rules for prisoners, equal inheritance, snap elections, a value on science, value on actual medicine, no woman was valued by her virginity and had the right to execute a rapist, they also had free "classes" sp they could all read and write and the modern day equivalent of food stamps. Christians and Christian invaders took all this away and executed those who refused to convert. I think there is a bit of validity in criticising any religion. You got very defensive very quickly though and seemed to want to take it down this exact route, i wonder why 🤔

    Helena yaya Slaves lived short horrible life’s in the Greco-Roman world. I’m not denying the Christian Europe didn’t have its own problems but I always hear ridiculous statements like his implying the pre Christian Pagan Europe was this great place and then everything went downhill after the fall of paganism. It was full of violence, war and genocide and was patriarchal. His assertion that middle eastern people perfected slavery is absurd and Roman women weren’t even allowed to vote. The idea of equal rights for women didn’t exist. Ya the Vikings were progressive in women’s rights for their time but you’re going by a low standard if you’re using the standard of that day. It was still a male dominated society. And people were forced to fight to the death and fed to starving animals among other things in the Roman Colosseum. It was horrific no matter how you cut it And gladiatorial combat was BANNED after Christianity became the religion. Again, stop pushing historical revisionism as fact.

Could try nuking them since that's the most powerful weaponry we have but they'd shoot that crap in our own atmosphere and then proceed to invade us with technology and weapons we couldn't even dream of for pure revenge. Also, they wouldn't follow the Geneva Conventions because they are our laws, not theirs so chemical warfare, attacking civilians, taking slaves, blowing up hospitals, taking out trade routes, starving nations.. All of that would be effective against us and there's absolutely no stopping anything other than ourselves doing those things. We'd be nothing compared to them, much like a lion fighting a mouse. You think we're strong enough to fight a race who have mastered travelling the stars? We can't even fight among ourselves effectively. This is very well done. This is the sort of presentation that could help make history interesting to so many students who say it's boring and unrelatable to them. This humanizes the people of the Ancient times, makes them more relatable.

    @@funnybunny954 Yes, but much more modernized than Ancient Egypt. We are closer to when Cleopatra VII was born than Cleopatra VII was to when the Great Pyramids were constructed … And even those don’t symbolize the peak of Ancient Egypt. It’s hard to conceptualize exactly how old Ancient Egypt is, but that helps give some context.
