#dhrupadmusician #indianclassicalmusic #meditativemusic In Dhrupad, considering that the genre lends itself to longer deeper explorations, when we learn a Raag and go deep into it, the possibilities of getting lost in the vast expanse of the harmonics multiplies. While it is important to completely immerse oneself in the depths of the raag it is also a very good exercise to inculcate short versions of the alaap where one chooses the phrases that one finds most appealing at that time and space and brings it together coherently and musically to highlight the beauty and emotion of the Raag. Here is a short video which I did after many attempts of making it tighter and tighter. My first video of the short alaap was 18 mins 😄🙈 after multiple attempts I could bring it down to the current 6 minutes or so.
The downside of this exercise is the constant feeling that I missed something, or I could have done better. But a lot of good comes out of it too. It is an exercise in self control, involvement, discretion and letting go all at the same time.

Namaskaar Happy to learn of your interest in dhrupad. These syllables are taken (like beej akshara) from a mantra which we consider the mool mantra of dhrupad. My gurus created a system of using them which I follow. But mostly all dhrupad vocalists use these according to some patterns or rules, depending on who you are learning. My best wishes to you for your musical journey 🙏🏽

Thank you for coming back 🙏🏽 unfortunately there isn’t anything traditional that has come down to me; only new compositions in dhrupad style. I have been looking for traditional dagarvani material in puriya Dhanashri myself. 😞🙏🏽

Wow thank you for sharing. If I may ask what website is this? This is interesting. I have the same composition in Multani and I also have it in Yaman Kalyan in one of the traditional manuscripts. There are a few compositions like this where the same poetry is floating in different ragas. Wonder how one can find the authentic source. Fascinating nevertheless 😊🙏🏽
