Dhrupad Music is a classical Raga based Tradition that has been passed on by generations of masters and musicians in India. It’s one of the oldest living musical traditions that distinctly reflects and is inspired by the diverse socio- cultural and spiritual elements of art and life of the Indian subcontinent. Tracing its origins from the early 11th century predominantly
inhabited in north India.
Nonetheless, In it’s inherent nature Dhrupad carries a universal spirit.
A Raga is a dynamic musical entity with a unique framework. A mere scale is transformed in to a RAGA by placing its notes by setting proper intervals based on its relation from its Shadaj- SA- Base note.
Alāp the slow and intricate elaboration of a Rāga is the hallmark of the Dagar school of Dhrupad Music.
The core exploration of the Dagar school of Dhrupad music is predominantly in voice and singing based principles. Detailed exploration of sound-set on traditional syllable based grammer, age old voice culture techniques and understanding modes/ Ragas in a unique elaborated manner.
