Hey Mazzy! Very awesome that you did a response video! Awww, you forgot The Beach Boys from the 3 B's! You're right, I had not heard of Pelle Carlberg. Sounds excellent. Oh man, you have Raspberries Best MOFI! Superb! That Emitt Rhodes LP is terrific. Also love the American Dream. Hey, we can cheat a little bit on our videos. They indeed are subjective! I'm definitely more of a Bangles fan than Go-Gos, too. Early Bangles were perfect jangle pop perfection. I keep seeing that Rubinoos record around. Guess I need to check them out for sure now! Saw Greg Kihn open for The Who back in 2002. What can I say - I do like subgenres and referring to bands in the different categorizations! Haha! MGMT - been meaning to check them out! I forgot Sugar, darn it. I also have that Big Star CD box set. FANTASTIC. You covered the bands I didn't. Kudos! Thanks, dude! I'm heading out to Washington again for a visit shortly! I have to come back! And it was great meeting you at those record shows, too!

I should call it cheating but it's good for all of us to showcase our takes on all this music. Genres bleed into each other and not must is really pure anyway. That's what make these artists so interesting IMHO. If you have time during your next trip to the PNW, I'd love to draft you for a Whack-A Mole episode. Folks love the group ones the best. It's always great to interact with other record lovers.

I really like his more recent records like The Impossible Bird, The Convincer etc. Beautiful song writing and Shelly My Love....wow. Lately, I’ve let things slide.........another great one. Cool video Mazzy.

Some excellent selections of Power Pop . Cool for Cats is great , but you must check out Argy Bargy if you don't already have it . I believe it to be a step up . East Side Story is great as well . I would also throw in some Split Enz ( I Got You is surely one of the great Power Pop songs of all time ) , and Neil Finn's follow up band Crowded House are also excellent . Add some Graham Parker and Joe Jackson as well . On the obscure side of things , try out The Sinceros' : The Sound of Sunbathing , and That Petrol Emotion : Chemicrazy . I will have to check out Pelle Carlberg ( I've certainly checked out enough of his beer ) . Thanks for the recommendations !

Glad to see Greg Kihn get his props. He had some great catchy singles in an era full of power pop gems. I turned 18 in 1980, right in the middle of a golden age of unforgettable power pop one hit wonders such as Sniff N The Tears (Driver's Seat) and The Kings (This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide). Love it all.

I need those first two Twilley Band albums. I only have Twilley’s solo debut - which is really good too. I also have that Big Star box. It totally screwed with my head because of the way they mixed the alternate cuts into the original tracklist. Some of the alternate cuts are actually better and I might get lynched for saying that.

Came across this video late in the game. Great review(s) from both of you. I immediately thought that the 3rd B was BADFINGER, a group you featured early on. I have a large Powerpop collection ("skinny tie music") and have noted a common factor: not very often are brilliant debuts followed up by an equally good sophomore effort The Records, Elvis Brothers, Rubinoos, Diesel, The Beat (US version), The Pop. The Cry, The Nails, The Look (US version)etc. The second Knack album has to be one of the worst ever - in any genre. Exceptions include Cheap Trick, Plimsouls and Katrina and the Waves. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for including Emmit Rhodes. One of my favorite albums of all time and if you go into his history, one of the great tragic artists in rock. BTW in college my roommate and I did a "BBB" deep dive: he took the Beach Boys, I took the Byrds and we both collected Beatles. Part of the reason that Emmit Rhodes didn't take off was that it came out about the same time as the first McCartney album and rumors were that it was either a "fake" McCartney album or that Rhodes was ripping off McCartney. Sorry to hear about Roy Loney; loved his first solo album and saw him live and he tore up the club!

Good video. The Go-Go's? They had Jane Wiedlin as lyricist and were fortunate in this regard. I don't think Hoffs and Peterson of the Bengals had anywhere near the same writing chops. The stuff those two wrote together just didn't quite make the grade. On the other hand, Wiedlin had the right gifts as a writer. She has loads of talent creatively. Never really understood the popularity of the Bengals outside of their singer's good looks. In some ways they reminded me very much of the Monkees--that is to say there was a writer behind a curtain pulling all the levers and cranking out the songs.
