@@DarrinSK yes it can work so long as you take the lethal hits adaptation and just start throwing gaunts at things (180 melee hits will tend to melt most things even some of the heavier tanks)

Take lethal hits then use the stratagem for sustained hits when ya need it

I did an inventory recently of all the secondhand guardsmen I have lying around. Turns out I've got about 262 regular infantry, 40+ heavy weapon teams and about 70 scions to paint (and partially build), and I've already got 50 guardsmen and about 30 scions painted. I'm planning on getting it all done for the next local crusade in half a year. I've got quite the long road ahead of me, and at the end lies GLORY TO THE FIRST MAN TO DIE

Nothings better than my opponent barely holding off 2 lines of guard infantry abd seeing I still have the 3rd line combined with all the reinforcements following behind the last assault

I play what I call a "rifle company" based on Marines of WW2. 80 infantry + supporting characters and a dedicated "weapons platoon". So all three heavy weapon squads. one all mortar and the others have 2 auto cannons and a lascannon. in place of armored support the Marines would receive on the pacific islands i think they would have loved some Armored Sentinels so i am bringing all 9. as well as 3 scouts to spot for the "navy's" Earthshaker cannons.

Not so sure given that GW is going down the "no kit = no unit" line. Only possibility I can see currently is "Veteran Cadians" that get to take all 4 specials.

If you're going to be playing pure infantry against someone, make sure that you are their ride to the game store. That way, you can drive them before the game even starts!

Its like the opposite stat check to Knights. If they cant pickup 50+ models a turn youre just going to out obsec everywhere. Everyone is tilted into anti tank now so its not a bad place to be.

Just put together a 5000 points list just for kicks- only infantry. 380 individual soldiers and officers, not counting the men attached to 21 various artillery and mortars.

Frankly I got too excited in 19:23 where my happy gas mask noise were in that bit 😅

Resin printing is super cheap in the long term. A printer set up with all the bells and whistles such as proper ventilation. About 400$ 2000 point army is about 40$ in resin. Me and my friends pooled together on it. We have printed 14,000 points of models. Lots of terrain and and other things. It is a fun and easy side of the army. But yeah printing 6 army's is cheaper then buying one good one. If you focus on rotating it you can print a whole 2000 point army in 2 weeks if you have a normal sized printer like the mars 3 pro

I have about a mix of 255 to 325 infantry units amongst my Tanith, First and Urdeshi storm troops. I feel with some slight tweaks like scout sentinels, and maybe an exterminator it could work really well. I know it’s not exactly pure infantry in that regard, but it would overcome some of the “to hit” and AP issues.

I love your content and enthusiasm! I only wish you covered Orks, because that's my preferred faction.

I don't even play guard yet I can't stop watching.

Before even hearing it all , my good bad and ugly is as follows. The good , it feels great and looks amazing ! It loves holding ground. As well it loves not caring about losses. The bad , it’s expensive af if you are buying GW models for it , like punishingly expensive. It also can lack some needed firepower as you are flooding him with chaff as opposed to superior fire power. The ugly , it’s a huge pain in the a** to move them in a timely fashion depending on army list size. Also the painting feels an awful lot like being trapped in hell. Over all it feels as good as you think it might and demotivating for your opponent to try and kill you. It’s a great set up if you have the means and the want to field them. I give them an A.

I’ve got about 120 guardsmen, a quarter primer black, and the rest unassembled and I completed. Just finished the first 30 I started on and it is hell. I’m not good enough to be super fast and precise, so it’s been about 2 hours of work per guardsman in total and I’ve been doing them in batches of 10 I’ve stopped doing most highlights besides the flesh tones, because it’s just so time consuming to add 5 colors and 5 more layers

8:10 Oh, man the old AP system. Back when a Battle Cannon automatically cut through Marine armor instead of just removing their cover save like it does now.

Hey Mordian, I just wanted to say I adore the new graphic/ video format!

My first 'proper' game in a GW store of 40K (start of 2nd Ed - index) was my pure infantry Guard. I'd saved up for two of the original plastic RT boxes and got a couple of metal characters from the manager. So I was 11 or 12 years old when I made a 'grown up' rage-cry quit. I was shown very little mercy, I learnt how quickly all my enamel painted guys go back in the box. Until... "My Sergeant has a 'Haywire' grenade and I can throw it at your Chaos Terminators" (people in store laughed so hard, I actually felt sorry for the guy). Anyway - 10Ed. Still love fielding a lot of infantry. Others have mentioned a scout sentinel (or two) can be a great force multiplier, but it helps futher 'the skew' no vehicles, gives no points for 'bring it down'. Recently found it really slows down a game calculating the dice rolls for each squad with all the different weapons. I wish they could have kept S/W options consistant across the 'now split' datasheets. I now have 30 squads of battleline infantry and I try to keep them WYSIWYG. In 40K A good general needs to be adaptable - magnetise all the special weapons.

Oh yeah here we go Mordian glory wanking off the pure infantry guard again. I say with my 300+ infantry models

In a previous video you've described this arny with 280 models in 14 battle line, 20 man infantry squads. Times that by £3 each or £30 for 10 models is a nice £840. That gives just 1660 points as of today.

Mordian you are my go to warhammer KZread channel, with Auspex tactics being a close second. Just wanted to say thank you for all the videos you’ve put so much time into man! Wish me luck I have a 2k point game soon and I’ll be bringing 3 squads of 9 ogryn as well as Nork dedog + command squad attached to catachans led by Straken for a tough ass melee blob 😂 I told my opponent who’s a really close friend I’m trying out a meme list and he’s under the impression I’m bringing multiple baneblades for some reason. He has no idea 💀 I’ll let you know how the game goes man!!

I haven't been part of the game since 7/8th ed, having played Iron Warriors and started a guard army around that time. But dammit, you are seriously tempting me to get back to collecting and playing my guard again!

I'm so glad I bought some many sets and movement trays before the endless price hikes began.

On the 8th day, the Emperor created the Infantry and all of Chaos stood at attention!

Do you think a Field Ordnance Battery counts as infantry? Would be nice to have a bit of artillery in my Pure Infantry list

I think they have the regiment keyword. Also they have models operating the weapon similar to heavy weapon squad mortars. I would consider it that way.

With the lord solar and Creed if you're being really greedy, you can bring in a huge number of reinforcements

I field a stormlord to protect my infantry, and it works out better than expected, 3x mortar heavy weapon units (9 mortars), and a 20 strong infantry squad (2x mortar heavy weapon). Suddenly I am throwing 11d6 mortar shot with heavy, blast, lethal (if standing still) and all that get buffed by Leontus order

I haven’t played 40k in years, since 5th ed I think. I think I’ll get back into it and play pure infantry guard just for the fun of it.

Glory to me, the first to die as a comment!!! Currently gaming my colleagues Orks with mixed Guard, but only 1000pts each cos of time. This video could come in handy!

Another horde melee army that guard needs to look out for is black templars, specifically righteous crusaders. One Crusader Squad with sustained hits can krump 40 guardsmen by itself and they might have 2 of them. They are also stupidly hard to kill. Just a heads up.

I’ve recently started a guard army, I’ve just jumped up to 2k, I’ve got a guard Christmas box, banesword, a combat patrol, heavy weps team, kasrkin, and a lemurs Russ, any suggestions on must haves?

Actually Reinforcement lets them return from turn 2 onwards not turn 3 so even better

have you ever encountered tournaments where they require you to use catachan models (a little dated) and krieg (the forge world stuff is a bit expensive and the kill team box set seems wasteful with the extra bits.

Unfortunately I don't have enough guardsmen for a pure infantry 2k, but a little over 200 guardsmen plus artillery will work quite well for what I need especially given I generally only get 1k point games in

I always wonder how to unskew the list a bit like if I wany mass infantry but with a sprinkling of armour what's the most competitive picks

Id say an exterminator russ, so you can get to - 2 ap on your lasguns. A Hellhound with a heavy bolter in the hull, to take away cover. Three single scoutsentinels for the rerolls of ones. And mayby a Basilisk, to pick off objective holders or slow a combat threat down. ;D

Can you optimise with some artillery and scout sentinels and Exterminators?

How does it work with 10th Ed rules of only half 6 battle line data sheets? I am assuming 6 infantry squad, 6 cadian shock, and 6 krieg. Or am I wrong?

Honestly the only reason I'm not sticking a lot of officers on my Guard squads is the point cost Sure, a 5+ FNP is delicious. But when that comes at the cost of another infantry squad - what do I value more? More durable Kriegsman or another Lascannon backing it up?

Agree. Many of the order giving units and individual character units like the castellan and psyker are too expensive imo for what they do and it becomes a trap. Would rather have more inf or order giving units with more range and max amount of orders to points

While certainly not really enough to play a infantry only astra army in 10th editiin. i noticed that with my iron warriors for horus heresy I kinda collected a good amount of traitor guardsman (and genestealer cultist i converted into normal cultist (slight head and armswap)) And it’s kinda funny but for the traitor astra militarum part of that army I’ve at this moment got around the 100 ish guardsman😂 so with a knight castellant and a few armored sentinels I’m actually capable of playing a 2 k game and man does it sound fun to just send those traitor horde into their deaths with so many special weapons

What’s the maximum amount of mortars could I bring?

I am slightly confused. You mention stacking +hit bonuses so that you hit on 2+ a couple times in this video but chance to hit is capped at -1/+1.

At my local club they try out 40k 10th edition want to start at 500p My army list 3x10 man squad kaskrin one each loadouts on one your other videos Ursela creed attached to 1 kaskrin squad Lord sola to another Pull all 3 into reserves and wait turn 2 then bring them from reserves, in case 2 squads get wiped issue reinforcements on one squad then if 2nd wiped ursula tactical ability 0cp allow me within 12inch do the same other wiped squad as long as she doesnt die get 200pt free on top, any suggestion change or ideas thanks
