    I cringed a little with the intro and all, but your video was actually very informative and realistic. You didn't hold back on any of the hardships one could meet with a pug, and went as far as advising to get a pug from a shelter rather than supporting overselective breeding. A well deserved like !

    Umm...pugs certainly have breeding issues, but they are what they are, and they are the most loving and loyal dogs imaginable. They are made very happy simply by connecting with a loving 'owner.' I would strongly prefer that they were breed much more for their benefit rather than for what stupid people want, but still, as much as I love all dogs, there is nothing like the love of a pug.

  • @tdiddle8950

    Let me add... Certain dogs are breed for certain reasons. Terriers are breed for ratting. Setters are breed for birding. Retrievers are breed to bring things back. And all of these dogs are loving and adorable, and they deserve to be treated with total love and respect. With that said, pugs are breed specifically for human connection, and they perform that task admirably. So if you want a dog specifically to just follow you around and love you, then you want a pug.

    @@tdiddle8950 False actually in almost every statement you made lol. Retrievers are used as service dogs and can do drug and cadaver search. Also pugs are bred to have 'cute' wrinkled faces. Hence their short airways. They are inbred for their appearance and the more people obsessing over them are just causing more health issues for generations to come, simply due to INBREEDING

    A study conducted by The Royal Veterinary College concluded pugs face dire health risks due to INBREEDING. The consequences of inbreeding for their specific appearance have become detrimental to their overall health. Breeders kill the pups that dont posess desirable traits and many pups live excruciatingly painful lives with many disorders and disease, some hardly can function. To understand the impacts more, the study looked at 4,308 pugs and 21,835 dogs of other breeds in the U.K., comparing their health profiles and odds of developing 40 common disorders The study found that pugs had an increased risk for 23 disorders, including being 54 times more likely to have brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, 51 times more likely to have narrowed nostrils, 11 times more likely to have skin fold infections. In addition, 17.4% of the pugs were obese, compared to just 6.9% of other dogs. Not many will speak out because its bad for business. Its designed for breeders to charge top dollar for the cutest pug and veterinarians arent going to speak up because they make a killing on pug visits because their health issues. Every pug you buy from a breeder promotes the suffering and death of thousands of pugs

    I have had a number of dogs in my lifetime. The pug is tops if you want to be entertained. My pug mix is a real clown. He talks, he begs for food and if he doesn't get a treat he'll talk, yes a long commentary of dog noises. My pug is a mix but he is 90% all pug minus the breathing problems because of the longer snout. He looks like the ancient pugs prevelant in the mid 1800's. Unfortunately for the pug, he was bred with this squished in face in recent years. Pugs are great.

    I have a pug mixed with a boston terrier which is nice because her face isn't smooshed in so she is not as noisy and doesn't have the health issues associated with it, but she also has the temperament and personality of a pug. Another thing I'd like to note is that pugs can get overweight FAST. Even a couple pounds over wieght is a lot for a dog that size. Make sure that you feed them healthy food and walk them regularly.

    This is an old video, I see, but, you know your pugs for sure. You've covered pretty much all their needs in that video. My 14 year old pug died last march. Been looking for another dog since and asking myself if I want another one, maybe another breed even. But, there is only one breed that fits my lifestyle completely and checks all the boxes and it's The Pug.

    Lmao i thought my Miles was the only one! He would respond to any animal on the tv, but he would go bananas when he saw horses in particular. Im talking full attack mode😂 He also thought he was a “big dog” (he actually was really big for a pug, a good 2 inches taller than most pugs ive seen). When I’d take him to the dog beach, he always demanded to go on the “big dog” side. He pretty much ignored small dogs, but would sometimes get agressive with larger dogs. Not even kidding, he almost lost sight in one of his eyes when he got into a fight with a leader dog for the blind...even though it ended up costing me over $1000, the surgery saved his eye, plus the irony of the whole situation was a bit funny😂

    Thanks for this very informative video even though I've just found it here in 2018. Is it true that black pugs shed less than lighter pugs? Pug breeders here in Denmark are usually very serious about breeding for health but of course there are no guarantees. I've considered a puggle or a pug-puggle (3/4 pug, 1/4 beagle) because I think the pug-puggles look more like vintage pugs, but unfortunately even among breeders of "designer mixes" they don't seem to take the health history of the parents and the parents ancestors as seriously as pure breed pug breeders do. I think I'm just going to have to enjoy videos and photos of other people's pugs. I'm a homemaker, our house is small, our weaIther is rarely very hot, but the higher potential for eye injury and what to do with the dog if we want to drive to fx. Italy in the Summer are things I've thought a lot about. I love pug character and personality, but while getting any dog is a big decision, getting a pug (french bulldog or other brache...spelling?!) would be an even bigger decision and while it's a selfish consideration; I don't think I have thick enough skin for people's comments and judgments. I guess i'll just have to look into breeds with similar traits to those I love about pugs but without as many health concerns.

    How do I keep my pug from nibbling on my furniture? He just turn this Nov.

  • @PuppyLoveNL

    @PuppyLoveNL

    7 жыл бұрын

    Whenever you see them nibble on something they're not supposed to, make a corrective noise like "tttssst!" or "No."...make sure you sound calm yet firm (not angry or high energy). If you can catch them in the act when they don't see you, you can surprise them by tapping their side once as you make your corrective noise. It helps to always make the same sounds when correcting so they can understand through repetition what those words mean. You can add things after no like "No bite" whenever it uses it's teeth to chew or bite things it's not supposed to. If you want to change a behavior, it's best to give it a name. Short commands are remembered best. Once I've let them know "no bite", then I'll tell them to "go away" and point for the pup to go elsewhere so it moves on from the scene so it does not repeat the chewing. Alternatively, you could provide something that the dog IS allowed to chew on, but bring it to a different area so they don't go back to the furniture to chew. If your dogs loves to chew or is teething, it's great to keep chew toys around. That way they can fulfill their need to chew, but without killing the furniture. If the chewing happens at a time when you can't see it, there are chewing deterrent sprays which you can put on furniture to make them taste bad to dogs. Things like sour apple spray can help curb chewing while you're working on the behavior. Another thing you can do to help reduce the chewing is to make sure your dog is getting plenty of exercise. Sometimes if they have excess energy that has not been drained, that can lead to them wanting to get rid of the energy by chewing. Make sure your pup gets walked daily, or at minimum 3 times a week for 30 minutes. The more their exercise needs are fulfilled, the less problem behaviors tend to develop. Walks also stimulate them mentally. Make sure they get to smell and see new places while you go on walks, that can decrease their boredom at home and reduce their desire to chew.

    That was a cute video. I have a Chug. So she is adorable, and I got her from a rescue organization that got her from some breeders in Ohio. It was well worth th 350. I paid. This fee includes vaccinations, the spay or neuter, and any other costs incurred while there. They even usually send home supplies with you. Like their favorite toy, coat, collar/leash and treats. More people should consider adopting from a rescue organization. There are also humane societys that may have one from time to time. Please don't buy from breeders!! There are too many unwanted animals and I've had pets all of my life and I'm in my 50's and I do believe the mixed breeds are smarter, more humerous, and seem to understand that you rescued them. They are also more loyal. One thing I didn't know about was the anal glands and how they get expressed. While gross, it is very easy to do if this happens, and is temporary. My chug is about 6 now, and I've had her for about 2 years, and just now got clogged in them glands, but I think it is the extra treats to chicken that I've been giving her and my Shitzu. They are very sweet pets, and how their cute lil eyes look at me makes my day. Thanks again for the video and anyone else reading my thoughts.

    Coconut oil is also great for treating/preventing nasal keratosis, which is fairly common as pugs get older. It’s basically a dry, crusty growth on their noses. Sometimes even a single treatment can remove a good amount of the crusty growth, and im guessing that your pugs will love it as much as my pugs do. It’s gotten to the point where they actually help me with the treatment by pushing their snouts into the cloth as hard as they can, making the task much easier. Same goes for their face fold, they absolutely love getting their faces cleaned.

    Depends on their personality. Some are easy-going, others are more strong willed. They usually love to please people and they are very food motivated, so those can be helpful for training. I would say females would be easier to work with than males (not a huge difference, though), only because the males can have a very strong drive to find females and hump when they get reach maturity. So there's some extra energy and distraction to work with for males, but neutering early can help tone that down.

    Adam & Tina's Puppy Love Doggie Daycare Thank you so much. I hv a 2 1/2 month old pug (female). She is very hard to control and since it is my first time raising a pet dog, I just wanted some help. And she bites a lot. Biting in the sense of a lot less hurting manner. To me and my family it is understandable but outsiders find it very hard to adjust with her. Any advices would help me a lot more. Thank you once more.

    This behavior is very common in puppies, and usually comes with the territory when raising any breed of puppy. When they are little, they explore the world with their mouth by biting everything, plus their teeth may be aching as they grow their new teeth, and they aren't aware of any limits quite yet. So, you will have to teach limits to her so she learns not to put her teeth on people in any way. In order to let her know that biting is not ok, you and all members of your family have to communicate to her that it is not acceptable behavior. If any family member allows the behavior by not correcting it, then the puppy will get mixed messages and probably still end up biting. So training will have to be consistent for everyone who she interacts with. Educate kids and new people she meets on how to prevent and correct it when she does try to bite. Although it may look cute when she gently bites, that is a sign of dominance and should be corrected, as the problem can get worse as she grows up. Any time a dog puts it's teeth on you, gentle or not, let them know that that is not allowed. There are many methods you could use to correct the behavior, or you could use a combination of methods. 1. Every time she puts her teeth on you, make a sound as though you are in pain. Even if she's being gentle, over-react and make a sound as though it hurt really bad and pull your hand away immediately. Say "No Bite!" with authority, and then stop paying attention to her entirely and go do something else. This way she learns that her teeth hurt people, and that when people are hurt then she will not get any attention. And make sure every single time she puts her teeth on you, that you say the same exact words "No Bite!" like you are very serious and she will eventually learn what it means. Consistency is key! 2. When she bites you, say "No Bite!" and then give her something she can bite, like a toy and say "Bite this!". She may be biting because her gums are aching, so giving a toy can solve that issue. 3. You can say the words "No Bite!" in combination with using a clean water squirt bottle (don't repurpose chemical squirt bottles) or a squirt gun and squirt her with water every time she bites. Avoid spraying the eyes, nostrils, or inner ears. Once she learns that the squirt bottle is a correction tool, you can just show the bottle to her and she's likely to stop the troublesome behavior. This method is not always available however, as you can't always have a squirt bottle on you...but it is highly effective for most dogs, as they don't like the sudden jet of water. Also be sure the water jet is not too strong for a puppy, and that the water is not too hot or cold. However, the first method should be tried first, as it usually works by itself. For very dominant dogs you'll want to hire a private dog trainer to help you, because if there is a risk of getting bitten you'll want professional in-person guidance to safely learn how to handle the situation. Search "professional dog trainer" and your location on google to find help if it ever becomes a bigger issue. I also recommend watching dog training videos on youtube about how to stop biting, there is a show called "the dog whisperer" by Cesar Millan which you can find full episodes of on youtube. By seeing how he works with hard cases you can get inspired on the right kind of posture and energy to have while working with dogs and you can pick up some tricks that may work for you. By training her well now, she will pretty much be on auto-pilot when she's an adult and she won't cause you any troublesome behavior because she learned early on. Thanks, and let me know if you have any other questions!

    +Kevin April gilliland here are a few things you could try...one solution could be to do feeding time in separate rooms or in kennels so each can get the fair amount of food. Pugs will over-eat if given the chance, they have incredible appetites so scheduled feedings are a great idea for them. You can control how much they eat and prevent obesity that way vs. free feeding. If you want to do free feeding you could put out 2 or 3 food bowls, this way they both can eat at the same time without competition. But if he prevents her from eating in that scenario also, then scheduled feeding in kennels would be a better solution. Make sure to supervise feedings. Putting the food on a higher surface sometimes helps to prevent aggression, since food on a platform cannot be stood over and guarded. A sign that a dog is claiming an object is if he stands over it, paws to each side...so eating from food on a pedestal will put them in a more submissive posture. My pug also has tendencies to guard food, so I have to correct her behavior when I see her trying to control food. I will shoo her away and supervise as the other dogs eat to ensure that she doesn't go near them when they're eating. It's good for them to recognize that the human is the one who controls the food and chooses who gets to eat, because it establishes you as the leader of the pack. If he is controlling what she eats, then he is thinking the food belongs to him and he is the leader. Remind him that you're in charge each time he does it and take other steps to prevent him from doing it in the future as well. Hope this helps! :)

    I really wish people would understand Pugs aren't to jog with or leave at home alone. You shouldn't get a pug if you want to leave it for hours or run it. These are humans people...and they are not cheap if you care for them properly. I've spent thousands....Thousands and it still is going after 14 years.

    Some of these things arent facts. More like different from pug to pug. We went to get a pug in another country, just so that we get a healthy one. He is way taller than pugs usually are, 0 breathing problems, and he loves to run and run and run!! He can take long walks of up to 5 hours non stop! He runs nearly just as fast as our big dog. Its different from pug to pug! Also you "make" your own pug. Barely take walks? Well than they will never be sporty pugs or like walks that much. Start walking alot from youbger age? You will get the most sporty pug ever!! (But be carefull! Joints will get damaged if you walk to much with them as a puppy!) Its alot about in what enviroment they grow up. Remember, sporty, strong pugs are pugs that will for the post prt live longer than those who are a little chubby and lazy.

    1 question if they sleep 14 hours a day then they dont need to be taken out every 1 hour no?

  • @asaliaz8630

    @asaliaz8630

    5 жыл бұрын

    No, i dont think any dog needs to be taken out every 1 hour, unless a bladder problem is present. If your dog is big enough, you can buy a doggy door and teach them to walk through it when they need to go. Otherwise a specific set feeding schedule and a way to let you know when they need to go (if there is no doggy door then sitting by the door or something like that’s can work. They need to understand that is where they go and will have a way of letting you know if they understand that) If you have a set feeding schedule (puppies under six months should be fed thrice daily, after that they can be fed safely twice, and after a year, once if you prefer) Pugs puppies specifically should be immediately shown the bathroom (if they are over two months, before that they are too young and you practically can’t control them) since they are very stubborn and if taught one thing, will have a very hard time learning the opposite.
