Saw you at Church that day, you were ripping. I wish I had said hi, but was nervous to do so. At 3:29, that's me paddling watching you do the bottom turn. There was a longboarder that pulled off and you went Richter on the turn. You went way down the line, then paddled back, passed me and left me like floating seaweed. For a split moment I tried to secretly paddle battle you, I lost by like a mile. LOL Seeing you in person, paddling, surfing, I guessing seeing any of you top level surfers, it's ridiculous. Very very humbling. haha Love the videos, Cheers.

Maybe you should start riding twins a bit more now that you have time to play around with boards. It hasn’t hurt Josh Kerr’s surfing any. I think Kelly credits his rail game to having learned to surf on a twin. I noticed on the G skate, you were forced to smooth it out a bit rather than give your sorta classic umph that you give the last 1/3rd of your wraps. It sorta looked nice seeing you ditch that little umph in your wrap for a smoother follow through at the end. I noticed the more I surf twins the smoother my style gets, and when I do give any umph my timing is better because you can’t push it umph early on a twin without losing it or blowing out into a unpredictable, harder to control, slide. Maybe a twiny is the tool you need to up your game, force you to draw new lines, and think about your flow and power in a new way for your return to the tour.

Cool board breakdown. Killing it on both boards. Can’t believe how the G Skate made that section. Tom was ripping as well. Thanks 🤙

My son in law was struggling with my old Doyle 9' foamie. I found him a used 9' Degree 33 board not knowing how it would work for him I wouldn't have much in it if it didn't. After a few minor repairs I sneaked it out for a trial and loved it! His first time out with it I couldn't get it away from him for anything LOL! I'm 76 and will never be especially good but just go for fun in the water and for me (us) this one is "magic" for just having fun.

My magic board has been the Seaside by Machado and the Lost RNF96. The former I just keep in my truck. I ride the Seaside at 5’6 in 2’ to double over hear, and in fast overhead slabs that pull off the shelf/ledge at my local spots. It can’t seem to do any wrong frankly. It’s good off the bottom. It’s good off the top. It holds. I haven’t found its limits yet, and I’ve surfed every winter swell here in HI for last three years; haven’t missed one. Even when it’s multiple directions and unruly that boards cuts through the BS rather well, even when it’s sorta scary big’ish. 🤷🏽‍♂️ My RNF96 is also all round magical too. I’m loving Rob’s Too Fish too for this small summer we’re having thus far. Being on the straight twin everyday is really smoothing out my surfing a ton, and it feels sooo good.

❤ so rad. firstly, those last 3 boards are so very cool. i am gushing over that 6'6". such a blade. i want want one :) the rook 15 is as well a total rad blade. i want want also, although i am on 6'2 rook 15 (this is my magic board for sure), and its about as short as i feel comfortable with (at least that is my thinking based on what ive experienced thus far, especially for paddle ins and drops on anything over chest to head and steep / hollow (my preferred type of wave), but also for 'speed' (especially with a bladey / rockery / very responsive / sensitive potentially 'slower' board, to get around closeout sections and add for easier momentum to balance maneuverability and not get bogged down. i am riding on my knees (which i am more than stoked about and grateful to be able to do, and have not in quite some time, nor will not try to stand up at this point now that i realize the benefits of staying lower and safer in my knees) due to a serious physical condition, and thus my center of gravity, board balance, as well as more classic down the line (or moreso trying to always be in the pocket, barrel, or racing to beat closeout sections style 'soul' surfing lines (not super vertical top to bottom style) drawn on the wave also greatly utilize the rounded pin (best tail shape ever), and super responsiveness of the very professional model rook 15 in a way that allows surfing on knees to actually function due to being able to make quick adjustments and maneuvers on a basically stationary position on the board and mostly only shifting weight / arms / etc. bottom turns, turns into the pocket, and sort of knifey subtle rail adjustments to best try to flow with the waveshape are made much easier for me without struggle, and make knee surfing so much fun and gratifying and exciting, without the risk of higher stance falls, and with easier 'pop ups' to knees (to feet is simply not possible and very painful) and still very much feels like riding a full on blade surfboard, but riding it more 'classically' (which im also totally stoked about because i dont want to, nor could, do 'tricks' (which would be absurdly dangerous for me) anyway :) also, riding on my knees makes waves basically feel twice as big so a head high barrel is overhead and has such a fun perspective, and also makes barrel riding easier (no squatting) and way more stable for both getting tucked in naturally, and potential makeouts but also for the majority of closeouts, makes trying to dive through the back of the wave easier from that position, and many more benefits on riding on knees. it also feels way more stable with lower center of gravity and on smaller more mushy less steep days, also allows the more rockery board to function and keep up with the wave shapes by acting more midlengthy if that makes sense. and overall, i am personally there to enjoy and celebrate the beauty of the waves and nature (not myself or my surfing tricks or ripping or whatever, not saying that is bad, but for me not the focus), and by riding this way, i feel like i am able to see the beautiful wave shapes so much more and being at that height allows full perspective of the entire wave from its surface to its base to peak shape. this has been so revelational to me, and might have otherwise never happened, if not for my physical condition necessitating that i ride the way i do :) lastly, that song you have while you are surfing so aggressively and excellently (the female vocal one), is rad and very complimentary / perfect for your surfing and segment :)

I don't have a magic board yet I ride a 5'10" CI sampler that I really like. I don't know too much about boards just focusing on getting better at turning and going backside so hopefully a lot of jalama days this August when the water warms up. Cool to hear your break down of the quiver! I thought I saw on your insta story that you were on Connor coffins podcast so I'm stoked to watch that when it comes out.

How good is that G skate! Probably the rider juicing its abilities but tight turns and super fast. Looked super fun under Lakeys feet. Currently loving a JS Monster Box. 37L 6'3". Shes getting pretty flogged on our rocky point breaks so I might get a replica.

❤ ps- (sorry / not sorry for all the verbiage), while i am absolutely content / happy with the 6'2" rook i am riding, and could see myself 100% content riding this exact shape / dimensions, and perhaps some subtle length / dimension differences (6'2" to 6'6"), with the benefit of knowing that board and improving my surfing ability and continued focus on surfing and the waves, each wave itself, without gear distraction, i am also interested in the CI PRO (was really impressed with the CI PRO 2 shapes (also full on blades) in the SB shop this year, and the Happy Traveler series (blades, but as least bladey as i would want to ride :) , although honestly i think i am really more focused on the rook and CI PRO models, with the Happy models being where i would include but end at regarding my wanting to ride only blades that especially accommodate highly responsive / maneuverable, highly rockered, blade riding waves (steep, hollow, fast, etc, but also riding on any day on any wave shape and always riding the same board to get better and better acquainted with 'married to' to become more 'one' with and have riding mechanics be as intuitive and natural as possible, even if not 'optimal' for that specific board :) so what i am saying is that if i found any hand me downs that were rooks, CI PROs, or Happys that were attainable at very attainable prices, or like, in the CI dumpster out back of the shop that are maybe worked in but still rideable and without fear of further ding / damage) i would not complain and i would have interest in subtle nuanced differences of said shapes. But still, my rook 15 feels like its only getting better and better for me with each passing day, week, month, and my only lament is that i see it getting further dinged, cracked, discolored, and other effects of natural wear and tear from frequent use and at some point will not be rideable :(

My magic board is a NGTV(negative) Bumper Car. Similar to the G Skate. But without the pulled in tail. Quad fin setup. Most of the spots I surf, the waves are not bowling, goes really good over the flatter sections. But I would love to try out the G Skate
