Yeah I was raised in louisiana and then lived in SE GA on a barrier island with no bridges. You talk about hot and humid! Wow! Have to take boat to town to get groceries through marsh and intercostal and down a river. Then get in vehicle and shop n keep in cold bags and load back up and then unload into 4wheelwr or truck and take home n unload. Lots of handling and loading and unloading just to grocery shop. Was too hot to walk to beach n jump in! Lol I tell ya, I don’t know how I did it and couldn’t do it again.

Seeing Matt there holding that basket of tomatoes, he almost looks like Jim Varney, the late actor/comedian who was very gifted. When I was a child, I'd fall asleep to the sound of my relatives conversing and laughing. I didn't realize at the time how much I'd miss hearing their voices. Listening to Matt and you just conversing is just as calming and pleasant, even if you're not talking about much other than observations. Conversation like that is becoming a lost art form as people will text their loved ones across the room! Insanity!

Good Morning Tipper and Matt I'm glad that you are getting back to some kind of normal after your loss of Miss Cindy. As you was talking about her little cat she had all those years and him passing two days before her. I was thinking he couldn't stand the thought without her so he went on so he could be there waiting on her . I have heard some say that old pets like that will hang on because they know their owner still needs them . To me our animals are such a wonderful gift from God to us they love us so unconditionally I know my little dogs always know when I'm having a really bad day with all the pain and they stay right at my side. They sure keep me company I'm so thankful I have them in my life. I hope your trip went well and after the book signing you all took a break and got some rest it will take a little while to get all your strength back. We are getting rain right now it's so hot and humid here in southern KY we even had a Air Quality alert Thursday and Friday it was so smokey from the fires out of Canada. I can't imagine the people up north living in all the smoke. 🙏 Sending You All Prayers and Blessings 🙏💙💙💙 🇺🇸 HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY 🇺🇲🎆🎇✴️💥🌟

Thank you for letting us know about Yoda. I am sorry for his loss, but glad Miss Cindy did not grieve for him. I don’t know if animals go to heaven (sure hope they do!) but hopefully Yoda was waiting there to greet Miss Cindy. You said a couple of times you needed to wash your face and comb your hair. Brought back memories of my daddy making me get up for school. Every morning he would say “time to get up, wash your face and hands, brush your teeth, and comb your hair” 😂 I’ll never forget that sweet memory. Praying that God continues to bless you all as you deal with the loss of Miss Cindy ❤ PS, I’m with Matt … hate the heat and humidity. The only good thing about summer is thunder storms, IMO. Nothing like the sky getting black, flashes of lightning and booming thunder!

Hey Tipper. I just want to thank you for the opportunity to meet you , Matt & Katie on Saturday. I was star struck at the moment but today I could think of all kinds of things I would love to sit and chat with you by the wood stove. You are so sweet & genuine just like on your videos. You would never know y’all had done a days work before meeting everyone on Saturday. Y’all are precious & I love your popsicle chats. I grew up in the 60s & 70s and we would have those hog killings you were talking about. They were so much fun, even though it was freezing cold & your fingers felt like they would fall off. When our children grew up & married, I asked the daughter in laws if they wanted to learn to can and freeze. We would set up a day that they could all come over & I would buy up several boxes of the chosen produce from a local produce farmer. They learned to can green beans & tomatoes & to freeze corn & butter beans. We all worked together and divided the bounty. They continue to put up food now on their own. I am enjoying my cookbook. It is a treasure. Congratulations to you & Jim on creating such a beautiful book.

I was raised on the gulf coast and the heat and humidity can be terrible. I' haven't worked an outside job, (only in my youth), being a lab technologist. But watching you guys can make me feel lazy and out of touch with nature. However hearing Matt talk about his inability to tolerate the heat and humidity makes me feel less pathetic 🙄LOL! And I also want to add that the weather in the Appalachians can be very different than that of the gulf coast . So at almost 50 I am more forgiving of myself for hating the heat and humidity. Well...... anyhow on another note you guys have a special life. You guys are very blessed to have the life you have. It is a testimony to many people.

Growing up we always had an half acre garden. One year our tomatoes did amazing! After we picked our last harvest, we let the green tomatoes get nice and big. While they were still green, we picked them. Then momma and I wrapped 1 page of newspaper around it. We filled 2 tomato boxes that way. We then put the boxes in the bottom of the fridge. At Thanksgiving and Christmas we unwrapped the tomatoes, picked out the bad (some didn’t survive), and the ones that were ripe, what were not ripe was rewrapped and put back into the box and fridge. It was so nice to have fresh tomatoes during the holidays!!

I just wanted to throw out an idea. When you was talking about how the time would come to clear out Miss Cindy’s things, I wanted to pass this on. My grandmother died the year before I was married. I’m so thankful for whatever reason I was given some of her aprons and a few clothes to keep. Although this wasn’t the plan at the time, years later I had her apron to display and a poem about it I wrote. Then when my kids and now grandkids have come, so many years later, I have a little swatch of her fabrics I can put in a baby quilt for them. Although they never met her, there’s still a connection. Through the years I’ve got a shirt or something from other family members for a remembrance block in baby quilts or made a memorial fabric star ornament for the Christmas tree. So many of those people have also passed away now, but I’m glad I got something to keep as a connection. Just be sure to write on the piece of fabric somewhere who it belonged to. I was cleaning out my sewing room the other day and was amazed at the amount of these memory fabrics I have (some of people I didn’t really know, but they gave us a shirt or something when I was making the baby quilts for nieces or nephews….and now I’ll have it for future babies.

What you guys said about the old-timey work-entertainment of making green tomato pickles and corn shuckings, etc. is so true. There is a meme going around Facebook that says, "The problem with today's society is that nobody sits on the porch and shells peas (or snaps beans or whatever) with grandma anymore." And then your conversation reminded me of two times in my life when I went to visit an aunt and uncle only to find one snapping, stringing and shelling shelly beans with a couple of cousins and another aunt or the other aunt I went to see, we (auntie and cousins) sat and shucked and cut off the cob several bushels of sweet corn to put in freezer bags for Thanksgiving. Both times I went home with a gallon bag full of goodies; shelly beans and green beans from the one visit, and a bag of cut corn off the cob from the other visit. Good times!

I live in Northern Nevada, we have the dry heat, the sweat evaporates quicker here😉 My husband is from Mystic CT, we would fly back to Ct and sail during the summer for 14 yrs.. we never could adapt to that humidity.. I remember sweating after getting out of the shower…. So I tried this trick… after getting cleaned in the shower, I would slowly start reducing the warm water in the shower to the point my body could tolerate the cold water.. I would let my body / core cool in the shower for a minute or so….this helped very much , in terms of eliminating sweating when getting out of the shower. COOL THE CORE REALLY WELL BEFORE YOU HOP OUTTA THE SHOWER.😉

Friday was miserable, it was unbearable and, the next night we had bad storm where, the power went out, nothing worse it seems like sleeping inside when, it’s hot. My step dad had a bunch of outdoor cats and, they seemed like they kept repopulating. The thing about most indoor cats can be very calm in the midst of everything that goes on in life. But, then, those are those rare cats that can be worse than a 2 yr old child, which a friend of mine had. With a camper you then, have to fight the heat. I do know in some of the state parks they have cabins and, a few here and there have a few motels and fancy restaurants. Well, thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing your Sunday with us. May God continue to comfort you and you & your family are in my prayers.

I'm with Matt! I grew up in SE Missouri, close to the Mississippi River. Summers were in the 100s with 99% humidity. I spent summers working for Dekalb. One year, I suffered from heat exhaustion. Now, I can not take heat and humidity at all! Now, we live in a dry climate. It might get hot, but it's definitely not as bad without the humidity!

I hate the heat and humidity too! It's been humid in West Virginia for the last couple of days. I'm glad you told us about Yoda. I started to ask but then I thought it might be too nosey of me. I have four cats and they sure have been a comfort and good company since my husband died. I love all animals and I somehow end up with all the strays in my neighborhood, dogs and cats. I'm too old and disabled to take care of a dog now so when my last dog died I had to say no more doggies. Pets can tell when their humans are ill and since Yoda was already in decline he knew it was time to go. My Mom and Dad had a cat named Yoda many years ago.

About 20 years ago we bought a folding trailer called A-Liner. They have no canvas, they fold up and tow just great behind a Toyota 4-runner. You can set one up in 5 minutes or less and most of them have air conditioning. We had one with a Port-A-Potty, a queen bed on one end and a double bed on the other that folded up into an eating area. It had a three way refrigerator, a two burner propane stove and lots of storage. Google them up. They were so good we had two of them. We got 14-15 MPG when towed behind a Dodge Dakota. On one trip we went west through 10 states and 8,000 miles. You might find one used and a little worse for the wear and then re-condition it. Love you guys

As I was enjoying the two of you chat about how dirty you are and how you needed to clean up before you left and Matt said what his grandmother called it - I'm not even sure how you would spell it - nasness!!!!!! I was hysterical!!! I live in Chattanooga but was born about 40 miles south of Huntsville, AL so my Southern roots are deep. I heard that as a child and recognized it the minute he said it. I'm sure it was the country way of saying nastiness. Most of the words you all say that are the Appalachian language is what I was raised hearing. I understand it clearly. I didn't know until I was in school that a "chimley" was really a chimney. Or a "wast" was a wasp. I love my southern heritage and I enjoy watching your family.
