"Studios had a sound" one of the most important things said on any of these tours.

I know the old guy who gave Jack the EMI pre Amps, I worked at Metropolis too, another Superb Studio tour Warren Jack is an amazing guy huge respect

Genius. That final section where Jack is talking about his philosophy of creativity might just be one of the best things ever said on the subject.

Hi BENNGIIE yes! We were there the whole day! It was so much fun and so relaxed! JJP was so respectful of all of us and made everyone feel so welcome!

I'd really love to watch JJP actually mix. Lots of videos of him talking about his gear that no one will ever be able to obtain, but I'd love to sit and watch him do his thing in real time.

I imagine every time JJP sits in here and turns it all on there's some type of electrical surge on the grid.

I don't think it is ever turned down actually, just so the gears stays at a stable temperature... I mean, the valve density in this room is nuts...

I have so much respect and love for JJP, even more so after meeting and studying with him at MWTM in 2014 in France. He is a magician, a wizard, and an alchemist of sound all rolled into one. A great teacher and a kind man.

JJP's studio is out of this world! What a gear head in a good way. JJP has a special relationship with his equipment and knows his craft. So knowledgeable. Great interview! A very humble and honest guy with deep insight who is willing to share his knowledge. Wonderful video for all the "preset" generation. Great description of todays studio environment.

An hour went by in a flash. Wonderful interview, for the history books.

It's really heartwarming to see Warren being humbled in a nice and positive way at the end by Jack. :)

I can only assume he has one hellacious air conditioning system to keep that room full of tubes and transformers comfortable

I usually have a lot to say, I just want to say, JJP has a beautiful mind! digging it

JJP is a brilliant engineer and producer with the platinum records to prove it, but at the core he's just a guy having FUN making cool sounds and living the dream. I Really enjoyed this!

What a wonderful tour. Not because of the fantastic gear but because of the artistic and playful and joyful language full of excitement and, as JJP said, full of wonderment. Lovely!! Thanks Warren for doing this and giving us the opportunity to participate :)

Insecurity is an important topic. Doubt is a potent enemy. And I usually associate it with performance. Your episodes have made me go back and make some of my songs better, and that feels like belief.

Just...WOW! JJP is absolutely a CRAZY CRAZY genius! This has got to be one of the most creatively inspirational interviews you have ever done and that I have ever heard from a producer/mix engineer! I have been a JJP fan for years and years, but to get into his creative mind in this way for an hour was absolutely the opportunity of a lifetime! Thanks, Warren!

The way to place thing related to the grid with the compressor is such a cool concept. Thanks, Jack!

What an absolute Genius.. I often re-visit Cheryl Crow's Safe and Sound to remind myself of the intensity and emotion a mix should have.. JJP really nailed that one.

This is simply amazing! When Jack gets into the relations of time dynamics as such is relative to how other parts fall into their places within a mix, is the knowledge of experience that is worth its weight in gold. I flat out love this installment of PLAP.

I watched this the day it went up. I just watched it for the third time now, along with the other video of the JJP sit-down interview. So much wisdom in these two videos, it leaves me wanting more from him. Thank you so much Warren! - Ionone

Great, great stuff! Loved JJP's use of compression to affect perception of timing (after 40:00+) and the experimentation with LED tubes, thereafter. You two were on a roll!

Really inspiring hearing you both talk, and seeing a little of Jack's philosophy behind his sonics. Excellent content. Wondering if maybe a part 2 of the studio tour Jack allued to at the end of this film, might be on cards for the near future? I know a lot of us would be really thankful to hear from Jack again. In an era where all we hear is “ follow the science” isn't it wonderful to listen to two guys talking about leading the science!!

I'm a Hip Hop and R&B producer/mix engineer. I don't think that I've heard an artist articulate this well, on the engineering side of things! Jack Joseph Puig is a very inspirational. His amount of gear is amazing too!

39:30 "i wont go into a lengthy thing about compression." *Proceeds to talk about compression in a very lengthy and absolutely amazing way that I have neverrrrr heard omg thanks so much for this. The gear porn is one thing but learning the insider philosophies/knowledge is really why I watch these studio tours

Genuinely inspiring. Lots of psychological insights you don't normally get from producers/engineers as well as the technical stuff. The buss stuff was really interesting. Absolutely excellent. No wonder you hardly spoke, Warren. As someone else said, the hour flashed past. Thanks so much for bringing us this.

Didn't realize until recently how many of my favorite records he'd done. Jellyfish, Sparklehorse, Weezer's Pinkerton, Belly, Remy Zero, The Grays. He may be my favorite producer.

I'm a fan of JJP's work. I'm completely knocked out at all the modified classic gear! And with ears like JJP's, you know he's getting maximum performances from these sonic instruments! Such a massive palette of possibilities! This is an engineer-producer's wet dream! I love the fact that he takes so much knowledge, and yet isn't afraid to experiment. An artist in every sense of the word. I'm also impressed that he didn't go to great lengths to modify the room, but rather prefers to listen as the listener, in a more open room (leaving room for more gear!). My studio walls are littered with records and books in shelves. They deaden the room fine, for me at least. I've heard many of my mixes in other rooms (studio and domestic), and they hold up great! Many thanks to you Warren, and Mr. Puig. I'm amazed!

Genius! JJ Puig`s way of expressing himself reminds me a lot of Martin Scorsese.

It is so amazing how passionate he is about EVERYTHING! From his gear to perception of dynamic control...so awesome! The way he is describing dynamic control reminds me of Michael Brauer...They both say it doesn't always work, but when it does it's magic...That's what I wanna figure out...Good Balancing is great, but being able to make a mix move...Gregory Scott is into that too...so cool...I'm curious where JJP has been...all these mixers seem to have been showing up so much, but it was like he was gone for a minute unless I'm trippin... It's funny, in a good way, how he catches himself teaching Warren and then he realizes he's preaching to the choir! So much passion...Awesome guy. I would love to spend an afternoon with him...Thanks for this one

Love this interview, Warren. When you got to the Blonder-Tongue, you mentioned Joe Zook. Back in 1990, I was in a band with Joe and a commercial producer for KLBJ Radio in Austin, very good producer named Allen Hite. This was before Joe went to school for Audio Engineering and we were going to school in Austin and playing gigs. Pretty cool that Joe went on to become the mixer and engineer that he did; it's very cool to hear you name check him in an interview like this. I last saw Joe in 2013 in Austin during SXSW, right before we moved to Florida. Great video-I'm a big fan of your series.

Guys like this are a dying breed. I would love to be his assistant. In 2 years working with any of the old Masters you probably can learn alot more and faster about the craft compared to 2 years of recording school

If i could give Warren a present it would be a week of mixing in Puig's crib, dont know anyone who would have more fun in that studio, i dont know where to look even from just looking at this video. CRAZY. Cheers

This really elevated my opinion and respect for this wise man, who seems very much like a proper engineer and has a scientific way of thinking. Thanks a bunch for this Warren. Glad to have this level of information available. As I love to experiment with mic techniques and mixing tricks that I base on by BE studies in radio frequencies and such, this really validated that way of thinking as not being all that crazy.

The biggest legend in audio for me! So many great records produced and mixed by this man

JJP literally lives in gear heaven, I can’t even imagine what the gear in that room is worth. I also love his descriptions......rainbow of sound...love it!!!!!!!!

He took the "process" of studio functionality to higher levels, and in dosing so, revealed the true art of recording. Can we be honest with ourselves. I’ve been involuted with recording since 73. I remember how much I wanted a clean signal from mic to tape, I think we all did. I went as far as bouncing a Tascam porta4 to a VCR because it was a digital tape. I’ve alway hear these buzz words like upper harmonics, grit ect. I can take a 15 Band Behringer EQ a DBX 166 comp and add as much (put in buzz word here) that will please any listeners.Then we get the mic snobs, Billy Squire along with Mac producing, recorded “Don’t say no” with using SM57’s on everything including vocals. The music gear manufacturer try to tell us we need this plug-in or the 500 series Neve EQ’s, guess what use your stock plugins and use your imangiation. Talent doesn’t make a plug-in or outboard gear, it’s a gift from God use it to your advantage.

He’s an engineer not a musician. This is their art form.. that’s like telling a guitar player to “shut up and buy a squire.” It’s fine if it’s not an art form to you, or if you don’t care about difference, but others do. A chef knows the exact cut of meat, from the exact farm, fed a specific diet, cured, prepped, and cooked to their specifications. No one is stoping you from eating at Mc Donald’s or denying it tastes good, but don’t shit on the 5 star chef just cuz you’re fine with fast food.

I took your comment a little differently. I think your trying to say that you can get a good sound from many things, it doesn’t matter what piece of gear you have because the best one is the one in front of you. Most of recording greatness comes from the lack of a piece of gear and have to find alternate methods. Happy accidents as Bob Ross says. I agree, we get stuck in this thought that a piece of gear will take us to the next level but it won’t. It’s all about creativity and determination.

Sometimes people including me, read between the lines. In this case there was nothing hidden in my comment. I respect all musician, producers and engineers no matter the genre. I was just saying use what you have at your disposal that’s where the talent shines through.

In these days I'm listening a lot to Verbena and I was very curious of this interview because of the beauty of the sound of the songs in the album also Puig worked on with them! I couldn't imagine a more beautiful interview! Lot's of respect!

Only an hour? How can I watch only an hour? I think I've been spoilt by the 3 hour previous. I won't divulge too much of what went through my mind watching both these vids, except to say it is indeed a world of wonderment, and there is absolutely no denying; music, sound, technology, magic, love, engagement, passion, vision, dedication and perserverance, have all been stirred into the pot and produced a heady mix of everything that's worth doing. Keep that pot hot and stirred. keep doing what youe doing, and please can we have some more? Thank you
