Puff-throated Babblers bathing at Huai Khayeng Nature Park, Thailand

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This is another video from our land in Thong Pha Phum, Kanchanaburi Province, that I have decided to call Huai Khayeng Nature Park, and which stretches to about 30 hectares. This land was completely burnt out by a fire that spread from the neighbouring national park about 10 years ago, and since then I have worked hard to cut firebreaks, plant trees, dig water pools and mostly protect the land so that it could regenerate itself. In recent years, that hard work has really started to pay off as more and more wildlife has moved in. I'm now trying to survey the various species that we have and choose good spots for setting up wildlife viewing hides. As part of this effort, I've been spending a lot of time at a small stream the flows for one of the springs that have recently opened up on a hillside, and today's video is a brief wildlife encounter along that stream.

Thank you so much. It has been a lot of hard work, because the land all around is often burnt either deliberately or accidentally from forest fires. So, we have to maintain large firebreaks and access trails to protect the land. For your interest, we have also made several water pools to help keep water available during the long dry season from November to May, and we will be making more of those over the next few weeks. I really hope I will have more clips of wildlife from our land over the coming years.

Very nice footage, babblers as insectivores I believe hold an important niche, the biodiversity of these bird baths remind me of some footage I’ve previously seen of salt licks in the Amazon, seems to be a magnet for creatures great and small, salt licks exist in KK too I reckon! Perhaps seething up a camera trap and filming animal activity won’t be too bad of an idea

Thank you so much for your comment again. Yes, these little pools in a natural stream on my land have been absolutely wonderful. The history of this land is that it was clear-felled and then planted for rubber about 15 years ago, but then was hit by forest fires a few times, so the owner lost interest and I was able to buy it. We have planted some trees and allowed most of it to regenerate naturally. Because of this, in the last 5 years, a spring line has opened up on the hillside. The topmost spring flows all year, and these little bird bathing pools are in the natural stream from that spring.... it is absolutely wonderful.

@@thailandwild4897 how wonderful, I am pleasantly amazed at your success in “ rewilding” given the right circumstances, nature can bounce back and reclaim even the most sterile of places, that seems to be the case here! Albeit with the addition of passion and love towards wildlife, a quality which you certainly have in abundance

Yes, I was fairly sure it was a female hill blue of one flavour or another, but no harm in fishing for comments..... you know how it works.
