Mis-pronounced my cousin's last name (fee-door, not Fedder) but loved watching this segment again. For sure his dad was with him on that hunt. When he says he has hunted hard his whole life, it is the truth. He earned that opportunity.
Y'all youngsters don't even know - 30 years ago, before KZread came along, this kind of hunting show was all there was! It was all super-dramatic voiceovers, unnecessary added background music, product placement, etc. I'm super glad that we have all the excellent KZread hunting channels that we have nowadays, but I won't deny that this sort of takes me back.

Thanks for your comment. You'll find a little bit of it all here on our channel. Classic hunts and modern storytelling. 👍
Seen and heard of too many elk lost to the 6.5 caliber. I always like to do everything I can to increase my odds of recovery 7mm or bigger for me. Guy, outstanding bull! Beautiful!
I think it’s hilarious when people put DIY public land hunting!!!! That means they normally hunt managed ranches where elk come into whistles!!!! Haha I’ve never had that experience thank Jesus. DIY, public land is what I was doing at 8 yrs old with pops and that seemed easy. These tv guys are hilarious.

move along! why comment? stupid ass post
6.5 creedmoor done the job , bullet choice and placement is the only factors in quick humane kills not cartridge! That kill was quick and clean if you think otherwise you dont have much experience hunting and killing big game!
Beautiful bulls! They bulls here in Oregon stayed in the rut pretty late into October of 2020. Not sure what caused it or if the fires had anything to do with it.
Awesome bulls congratulations!!👍

Have seen this years ago!
Great Hunt Guy always like watching you on your Elk hunts in God's Great Outdoors. I really enjoy your packing with Horses and Mules it adds so much more to the hunt
Nice bulls. Question on the 2nd one. you left it overnight without gutting it first. I am new to hunting, but thought the first rule was to get the meat cooled down and the quickest way is to gut it. I understand most people go with the gutless method, but since you left it overnight, I wasn't sure how much the weather affects a big animal like that in the cold temps you are in. Thanks again for all the great content.

Thanks for your question - the second bull was actually field dressed, or gutted, and left over night. You are right you definitely want to get the meat cooled down quickly. Gutting is a sure way to get an animal cooling. Another trick is to open the animals hide along the spine and backstraps. That area tends to hold heat as well.
I must have dozed off and missed the Montana hunt?

It was in the beginning!
Typical ELD-X performance left the elk on his feet way to long giving him a chance to run over into a hell hole ,where I hunt anyways, and it didn't exit at what looked like a under 300 yard shot. I want two holes it seems to put them down on the ground faster, if its through the lungs or heart. But that's just been my experience from shooting 40 plus elk through the years.

The elk I’ve shot with eldx 7mm have run less than 50 yards. 300-600 yards.

@@BlueBloodCstm how many elk have you shot with a ELD-X bullet and did it exit?

@@norton218 only three, 2 bulls and a cow. Pass through on 2 of the 3. Non pass through hit off shoulder at 550. Have worked for me - but that’s a .280 AI with substantially more energy than a creedmore.

I used a 300wsm with 200 gr eld-x on a spike and 3 cows broadside shots from 250 yards to 550 every one required 2 or 3 shots the one cow had a bull come try to mount her after the second shot behind the shoulder I finally shot her in the neck before she got to far. Made the pack out a lot worse than where I first shot her. The spike ran 200 yards closer so that was nice. I use barnes 200 gr LRX bullets now ,shot 4 cows with them and none went further than 30 yards and never recovered a bullet

I have seen the same thing @norton218, the eldx needs to be going a bit slower for it to hold together and pass through. - Dan
I was taught to kill em fast as you can and on big animals like elk 30 06 ,300 something that will hit em like thor's hammer.
ill stick to my 300 WBY Mag after watching this
6.5 is too small a caliber for elk hands down
stop commercializing public land hunting, average joe cant even draw a tag anymore
