This is like when you tell your parents a funny story and it turns into a lecture.
My Therapist loved this satirical bit about “armchair diagnoses based off one clip.”

improper use of capitilization and quotes
They should do a show where they put 15 people in a room. 5 "psychologists" 5 "crazies" and 5 "normal" people. And let them guess who is who.
Jumping straight to wanting to set up a conservatorship is insane
These psychologists are crazy
This is why you can’t be friends with a psychologist

It seems that 2/3 or 3/3 of these people are not psychologists. One is a nurse practitioner (nursing degree), one is in family law (no credentials listed, so safe to assume they didn’t get a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology), and one is licensed as a LMFT (marriage and family therapist- This credential is typically used by social workers or people with a 2-year degree from a counseling program, not clinical psychologists with a PhD or PsyD).
This is like analyzing a piece of beautiful music with a frequency generator: the device produces an accurate description of the continual alteration in frequency over time but completely misses the music.

Pretty ironic that comments dont understand that the joke is that they dont understand the joke hahaha.
Well I’m definitely not going to therapy now
John is a recovering addict. And he's a magnificent comedian and I wish him well with his family.
I'm sure everyone here knows - this bit too, with the psychologists, is staged comedy... But they were bang on the money with Mulaney 😂!

I remember making my friends laugh in 3rd grade and my teacher lectured me on being disruptive and had to have my mother come in for a student/parent meeting, and I tried to explain to her how funny it was and why it was funny. 40 years later I feel the same way. Can't explain funny to the unfunny. It's dangerous for unfunny people should to have power in society.
Hilarious! Please do Bill Burr!
it's funny that john mulaney has a bit about self-inflicting a conservatorship with his accountant
Ummm...None of these three people are psychologists. The men have other mental health professions, and the woman is an attorney.
Or, or, or, and just go with me on this… They could just be comedians doing sketch comedy and playing a character for the camera while they are on stage. I’m not a Ph.D, but that’s my official diagnosis 🤣

I think everyone does on some level. But the fact that they're so good at turning horrible into hilarious typically means they've had a lot of practice aka tough lives that could have lasting effects that fit the criteria for diagnosis. But not in one joke. Lol. I like your comment

Yup. Dr Kojo is literally a standup comedian who works as a nurse in a mental health facility by day. I've been following him for years because he has a lot of great content about the autism/adhd spectrum.
This needs to be expanded to a full series because it's so fascinating.

My dad is a clinical marriage and family psychologist. They try too hard to see the world as one way, or the other. That they label you as something, and each psychologist sees things a little differently. This is eye opening, and a little disturbing.

Some hits among the many misses in this Netflix mini series.
As someone with a sociology degree the field of psychiatric mental healthcare specially needs a massive re-structuring. These clinicians are so quick to diagnose highly specific mental illnesses based on one short observation it’s scary and an inaccurate way to get a true picture of what’s really going on.
This show was great please do it again soon John or at least annually for the fest
Quacks quacking
This just goes to show that having a Ph.D. cannot save you from projection and all manner of cognitive biases.
lol! Ms. Jafari has seen John Mulaney's most recent special. I'm surprised she didn't mention Rolex watches...
I'm no professional but I've always said that Maniscalco, who I've been a fan of for years, has serious anger issues caused by his father, who he now portrays as the most wonderful guy in the world. But also, Nikki Glazer needs to be analyzed by these professionals. Listen to her Fly On The Wall interview with Dana Carvey and David Spade. She is one hot mess but is trying to convince herself that it's normal to be that way.
They won't stop until every comedian is in a straight jacket like animaniacs. Psyche organizations are paranormally soul crushingly boring.
For those of you who think these are real diagnoses, consider the source. I doubt they are even real psychiatrists…. Blaming John Mulaney‘s cocaine fueled antics on autism is pretty damn funny though !

Wow. Harsh. Mullaney was high as shit at the time so I think that wasn't taken into account 😅
oops, it looks like Mulaney and Co. had too much trust in the intelligence of the audience... PSA: You are watching a comedy sketch- you just saw someone advising a conservertorship for Mulaney, on his own show, and your reaction is... "screw these people, they don't know what they're talking about! I bet they’re not even real psychologists!"🤦♂️
Do this again but instead of comedians, use Politicians, especially Presidential Candidates.
Jeez, why don't you take all the fun out of comedy. We are all messed up in a really messed up world. We can relate, so we laugh.
Groundbreaking. l'd watch a full length movie about Sam Kinison/shrinks.
Nothing like making a diagnosis on someone from less than twenty seconds of their comedy act. I laughed. I'm guessing this is supposed to be funny?
Do these people not know what a comedian is? 😂
Many a psychologist turns out to be the crazy one compared to their subjects. I have encountered many who are not very intelligent and/or have far deeper issues themselves. But they must analyze in hopes of making themselves "relevant". The assertions made by these supposed specialists neglect that comedy does not guarantee a mirror image of a person's psyche. It is interesting though why comedians choose the materials they do, but then again, it's intended to shock and interest. Drawing on personal experiences is likely one aspect, but just one of others, so basing observations on that alone can lead to easily misdiagnose persons. Here, the goofballs make generalized deductions without empirical basis or considering the complexities. They draw on first impression but do not know anything about the comedians, other than what they saw in a video clip. So every actor can play a role as well, but that does not mean who they portray is themselves. But leave it to the the ones who were not smart enough to become psychiatrists. Psychologists are social workers and that's it.
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 AVOID PSYCHOLOGISTS !!!!
For the most part, all a comic is is someone who has monetized their mental illness with job that exploits, aggravates, and treats the mental illness at the same time….. and these psychologists have the nerve to try and cure these great minds??!!!! How dare they lol
my god the black guy is hot
What I don't like about Jeselnik Is that all his Jokes are pretty much completely Made Up. They might as well be movie scenes Yeah it's witty and he has stance presence but it's just whatever shocking thing he comes up with I feel like someone like Daniel Tosh actually gets into real subject matter. And has a edgy view
I scrolled to a random spot and immediatly heard " socially immature", so this is like a roast or what? A really bad roast
Yeah, this is one of the biggest wastes of time and money in production that I've come across in recent memory. You can't analyze someone from a 30-second clip. Sometimes, it's tough to get the full scope in 120 MINUTES, and even then, there are going to be certain things that you'd never see in a controlled setting. That's one of the reasons that I believe that talk therapy is a scam. It might make a patient feel better or feel like they've got a better grasp on why they do the things they do, but unless they're willing to fully explain the extent of what they think and sometimes do in extreme situations, they're going to be put on a medication that might mask some of the symptoms, but the root issues are much deeper and tougher to deal with.
These quacks are hilarious. They're about as legit as palm readers. Can't believe that's a profession. Such a joke
Do these ‘Dr.’s’ really think they can diagnose and take over a comics money and life after a 10 second clip???????

So this video is severely irritating, no? A bit of googling reveals that these people are in fact actual mental health professionals, not actors, which suggests that they surely ought to grasp the gross irresponsibility of making diagnoses in response to any short video clip, let alone one of someone's stage persona. Yet they watch the videos with smug, knowing smirks and hand down their diagnoses with supreme self-confidence. These people are making a grotesque and dangerously misleading caricature of the field they are supposed to represent.
