When you listen to the Smash arrangement of this theme, you can note that Sakurai is a total SNK fan. Terry is the DLC character with the more details and the whole DLC pack is an hommage to SNK and their great games.

The original Pyscho Soldiers will always hold a special place in my heart as one of those unforgettable childhood fuzzy memories. In 1988, back when I was 7, my family did their annual visit to a podunk northern Nevada town called Wells to visit other family. There's a truck stop and restaurant called the 4-Way Cafe (still there to this day) that would always have a bunch of arcade games. One and only time I've ever seen and played the cab in person. I had no idea what it was at the time, just that it was "that cool game that talked" with fuzzy memories since then. Got to play it twice before my parents whisked me away. Re-discovered it in MAME in 1998 when I got hard into emulation and started getting into NeoGeo (aka that one cool red cabinet with that Samurai fighting game and the one with a blue and purple cowboy that shrunk when fighting skulls with spoons). The rest is history.

@@shadeshiest22 Sengoku. Didn't fight with spoon, but fought against a floating enemy skull wielding a wooden spoon. Very strange stuff to a 10 year old American kid in 1991. It was my first recollection of seeing a Neo Geo cabinet and being amazed at how cool the games looked and sounded. I forget the name of the restaurant as its changed at least five times over the years, but the building is still there and is now an Asian buffet. Also had Rastan and a few other classics.

Hot take: The KOF' 02 psycho soldier theme is one of my favorites

I have no idea why everything in 80s was just so cool, for example, if I play Psycho Soldier in 80s, I am probably the coolest kid in that region. If I play Psycho Soldier nowadays, I am probably still the coolest in that region, but in a Daddy form.

It already sounded nostalgic when the very first version came out in the 80s. I think it was intended to sound like a 70's TV drama theme.

The little blurbs about the history of each track is fun. Little touches like that make a good compilation.

I´ve always loved this song, i didn´t know there were no vocal song for such a long time. Sakurai did put a lot of love and details in every character and revived the chorus version too! Talking about things to be happy about

Fun fact: Yuzo Koshiro is also the composer of all the songs in the Streets Of Rage trilogy on the Genesis/Mega Drive

It's always the songs from games that only 10 people on Earth know about that always have the kick-ass early anime style of the earlier days. It's crazy that even the "cheesy" Overseas version still manages to give off that 80's "Alright, TIME TO POWER UP! TRANSFORMMMMMMMMMMMM, DEFENDER OF THE EARTH!!!" anime mood from old cartoons back in the day. It's great

I only remember the original song and was surprised to see this remixed in smash ultimate. Honestly I didn't know how much history was in this song, heck I dind't even notice the song is in some of the KOF games. Thanks to Smash ult and this video, this song has now become one of my favourite video game songs even if it does sound corny. But hey it's a catchy song.

I have a real soft spot for this game, and it’s theme. It may be a SonSon ripoff, but Psycho Soldier was THE first arcade game with a complete digitized theme song… lyrics and all. Journey’s arcade game doesn’t count as it was literally a cassette on loop. I cannot overstate the impact it had on me. Imagine walking past an arcade game as a 6 or 7 year old in the 80s and BAM! Suddenly it starts singing to you… yeah it was like that for me. I was was instantly enthralled. XD

Cassette version and the ultimate version have to be my favorite. The rest are alright

Really appreciate the effort put into this. Your explanations got me completely distracted from what I set out to do. Hope Psycho Soldier returns in Vocal Glory to KoF XV. If I ever come around playing any KoF somewhat seriously Athena is my number one Pick.

The overseas version of the theme getting covered for Smash Ultimate is just... MMF. It goes full circle. Love it. Wish they mocked up a new second verse instead of giving us a sax solo, but what can you do. :P

To answer to the description, right now I'm addicted to '94 (Arranged Version) but idk if I like it better than Ultimate (Japanese Version). They are both pretty different with their styles, so that's probably why I can't choose one, but I'll say for now that they both are my favorites.

I noticed the whole "Psycho Solider on X68000" thing, and I do have something to say about it. I made it up, I used to have a account on Twitter talk about Athena Asamiya, and I made a few jokes tweet on that. One being Clark Still planned to be the Player 2 character in Psycho Solider instead of Kensou, Athena was supposed to appear in Metal Slug... etc. So the whole "Cancelled Psycho Solider X68000 game" is just a big joke, that theme is just originally arranged by the people who make "Jotei Senki 3", it has nothing to do with SNK. I meant it to be a joke and I'm kinda surprised how people actually take it seriously, I'm sorry to spend misinformation...
