PS5 Slim HDMI Port Repair, Live PlayStation Repair at PS Electronics 888-820-3476

Ғылым және технология

Today we have a brand new PS5 Slim that my customer dropped while the cables were plugged in. The HDMI port is always the one that suffers. This damage is very common in game consoles, the PS5 even more so (I think, because of it's shape). It's very easy to topple this thing over. This will be my first time servicing the slim. It's built a little different than the last generation but there are still many things that look the same.

"So that I'm not wearing out the hole" 47:35 Louis would have a field day with that statement Paul 😂 No but seriously, you always give great tips like that and we thank you.

I've already replaced some hdmi ports (with some difficulties) for other consoles in the past but watching this video is still really really helpful and instructive. Loved it, such great tips and professional soldering. Using the hot air on the anchor pins and let all the solder sink, that was neat!

Thank you for the video. There are always tips and tricks to learn. Recently I even did some smd work (populated the missing 0402 resistors on a board using a donor board and uart worked).

I've had one or two like this as well. Odd connector they used for it. Groups of pins moved inward and outward while the pads are not. Replaced with a straight one just like you. I wonder why sony did it like this.

Is that supposed to stand on that small base? If so that is very easy to knock over for sure.

What are the temp on the heat gun and soldering tip. Mine is not melting I have it at 450 F

Both my hot air and soldering iron temperature are almost always set to 840 F that is 450 C. That is full temp for both stations. I very rarely change that, both because that's what always works and setting the temperature on a Hakko soldering station is like setting the clock on a VCR from 1989.

I guess if there is liquid metal on the board it won't go in the ultrasonic cleaner, hence the Q-tipping.

Correct, I would never put something with liquid metal in my UC but if I got this really sticky I would dunk just the connector edge in for a clean. I use "the correct" small amount of flux so it's easy to just clean with a q-tip.

It's gotta be the shape, it's so easy to knock over. Keep it on a shelf away from everybody. If you charge your controller from the front port dont leave it hanging somewhere where somebody can kick it or knock the controller which takes down the console. If you move it from room to room or take it to a friend's house do not transport it with the HDMI cord connected. It's all just normal things people do that break these. But they are very fixable.
