The worst argument I've heard scalpers say is they have to pay the bills and struggle with money. I'm sorry but if you can afford even one or two PS5s you're not struggling. I barely make it to my next payment with £5 in my bank some months. You're not struggling you can get by with what you have. Absolutely nothing can defend that.

It's actually the same economic theory that proclaims that only market-equilibrium price is "fair" and that any interference with it is both practically futile and morally wrong that free marketeers had been using to justify all kinds of policies, and it's usually popular... But now it's not the big bad regulators that hold the price down, it's edit for reading-challenged: LEGITIMATE SELLERS, NOT SCALPERS, and people aren't quite as persuaded. I wonder why...

They want to make and sell as many consoles as cheaply as possible. Well, except Nintendo, who... Do Nintendo things.

Not to mention the fact that if anyone know the cost of the hardware, they will tell you that consoles most of the time barely make money- at the MSRP is just about breaking-even or with a very thin profit margin, which the retailers are getting only a tiny % of that already small piece of pie. I was waiting for the "Charity" defense. I believe that they donate to charity about as much as I believe that "Jordan" and "Regan" are their real names. I've worked retail and dealt with these clowns personally. They will come in on a black friday, want to buy your entire stock of something, tell you a sob story about how it's for charity, then upon purchase whip out a tax exemption card that's clearly marked "Resale." A few are nice, but the majority of them are very rude and arrogant. When you tell them that you don't have something in stock, or "one per customer," they call you a liar, and some derogatory slurs, and demand to talk to the manager. They then tell the manager that you were rude to them and called them derogatory slurs, and of course, demand further discounts on the item for having to go through the hassle. And yeah, at least in the US, thanks to 'tax exemption' cards, those guys buy their PS5's for not a penny more than $499. I really hope that info goes mainstream. Hey Yong! If you read this comment, break that story!

They're psychopaths. Even if you blacklist them, they'll send random kids to buy product from you. And they're not even clever about it. They do it literally 5 minutes after being rejected. They really think the store is going to hand a dozen or so consoles/tickets/booster boxes to a freaking child. Even worse, they buy personalized tickets, which they know for a fact will get people rejected at the door (don't even try it), for hundreds of dollars. They know they're scamming you, and they just don't give a crap. They're horrible people, and I hope the law will catch up with them. Btw, if any of you work in retail, don't let them threaten you. Most stores don't even want to do business with these scumbags. In theory, you could insult their moms and they'd still come back and try to get product from you. They're have no dignity, no morals, and no standards whatsoever. They are less than dirt. All they care about is money. Screw them.

Sadly gamers aren't known for their patiance when it comes to release of new product. I hate blaming the victim, but is the new console really something that important that they cannot wait few weeks or couple of months for restock or scalpers lowering their prices? They're not exactly running out of good video games to play anytime soon, no matter the preference. Like I'm not sure if it's even physically possible to play everything worth playing in one lifetime even if zero new games were made ever again. I haven't bought a triple A game for PC or home consoles ever since Fallout 4 and barely even touched that one and I'm certainly not running out of things to play. But no, nothing else suffices than the newest console and the few games it has that most likely will be more or less tech demos.

They have no standards and just want the instant gratification. Like, you have to realize that what we consider as "gamers" is only a part of the overaching gaming community. We probably only make up 30-40 something percent of the overall gaming community, and that's a generous estimate. Plus you have people who will bite the bullet and buy it because its a 4K dvd player or whatever on top of being a games console. That's pretty good value and partially why the Playstation brand has been so successful. I could see why someone with very little patience would buy it at an inflated price. The demand is high enough. Obviously none of this makes it right though.
