This is by far my favorite game in the ROTK series. I've beaten it on Advanced difficulty as well. Though I agree that not being able to see officer loyalties can make it harder to steal enemy officers, the game is nice enough to allow your Reward command to display officers whose Loyalty ratings can be improved so you won't have to worry about desertions. In addition building up your relationships to "Close" level has a huge impact on the success rate of many officer interaction commands. if you were to follow those officers you found and kept talking to them until you had a close relationship, you would've certainly gotten them over to your side, though some might have requested a duel or debate before doing so. As for some of your in game inquiries: 1) The success rate for attackers scaling enemy castle walls is inversely proportionate to its size. In other words, walls in small sized cities are the easiest to scale, while extra large sized city walls are the hardest to scale. The defenders always succeed when scaling walls. 2) Regarding debates, this is how the board on the bottom right works. As you know, each of the normal Logic, Virtue and Profit commands have a random number associated with them, which gives them "strength" value. Also note that at the start of a debate, you'll see circle with the arrow pointing upwards. This means commands with the higher "strength" beats normal commands of lower "strength". After each round, assuming the "strength" values of both commands haven't already been placed on the board and don't match (such as both sides having something like Profit 5 and Virtue 5), their respective "strength" values and color get added to the board. As for your tic-tac-toe comparison, you're half right. If you complete one during your turn with all 3 numbers on the board of the SAME color, you'll do tons of damage to your opponent. However, it'll backfire if the tic-tac-toe is a mix of all 3 colors of red, blue and green, meaning you'll do a ton of damage to yourself. In addition, every time a tic-tac-toe is completed, the board is completely cleared and the arrow's direction is reversed, thus reversing the "strength" of the normal Logic, Virtue and Profit commands. Special attack commands like Argue, Fault, Incite and Taunt for example always beat Logic, Virtue and Profit commands, regardless of their "strength". If you have Plead, you can keep it in your deck to protect yourself from a special attack command. Taunt beats every command in the game except for Refute and maybe Plead (it's been a while), which makes any attack command get reflected back to the user. The Awe command is unique. It has a "strength" value just like normal commands do, which means it can either win or lose in a given round. However, regardless of the outcome, as long as Awe's "strength" value isn't already populated on the board it'll be placed on there. For each subsequent round that Awe remains on the board, the intellect meter moves in your favor slightly, which can quickly add up over time. 3) As for ruling or serving a custom force, my personal favorite city to start in if it's available is Jiang Zhou. This is because it has one of the best ground unit facility combos in the game, being the Foundry, Machine Yard and Garrison (F). This city allows you to eventually upgrade your Foot units into Infantry and then Sentinels. In addition, you can further outfit these units with Battering Rams, Towers, Catapults, Wood Oxen and is the only city in the entire game where you can build Juggernauts. You'll need to take Chai Sang, Jian Ye or Jiang Ling if you want the best Warships for naval combat. Han Zhong, Jiang Xia, Wan, and Wu Du let you build Marksmen. If you want Sentinels and Marksmen instead of Sentinels and siege units, for for Jiang Xia instead. 4) In duels, the special commands have prerequisites before they can be used, with the more powerful ones requiring to not only have the correct number or normal attacks stocked up, but the correct skill learned as well. I don't remember all the special commands off of the top of my head but prerequisites go along the lines of having 3 of the same regular attack, such as 3 Strikes and 3 Stabs saved up. Some other special attacks require 1 of each type of St, Sl and Sw saved up to use. If I remember correctly, having 3 Evades stocked up would allow you to use Recover, which heals quite a lot of HP, provided you have the Recover skill learned.

Me too, this is my favorite game in the series. And this game has insane replay value that I keep going back to this game. Just recently I replayed the game again, unlocking all the animated events and other stuffs in the gallery once again

The 5 Ps2 ROTK games were the best in the series imo. I can never decide which one is my fav cause they all have a legit reason to go back to each. I will say the seige map designs for X can only be summed up as.....interesting lol.

This is one of my absolute favorites. Additional info on debates: Plead nullifies any gold attack command used against you when you have it in your "hand". Refute takes it a step further, turning the attack against its user. Both will nullify all Plead and Refute commands in your opponent's hand when you actively play one, though you will not gain any immediate ground on that turn. Refute replaces Plead when it is learned, just as Argue replaces Fault. Fault will override Virtue, Profit, and Logic while Argue, Incite, and Taunt will destroy them utterly, preventing their appearance on the board. Argue destroys Fault, Incite destroys Argue, Taunt destroys Incite. Refute can reverse all four and once triggered, cannot be reversed. Always keep an eye out for Refute in an opponent, as you really don't want your own Taunt turned against you. On duels: Maul = 3 Strikes, Crush = 3 Stabs, Scare = 3 Slashes, Shout = 3 Slices, Counter = 3 Sweeps, Parry = 3 Swings, Recover = 3 Evades, Rush = 1 Strike, 1 Slash, 1 Sweep, Pound = 1 Stab, 1 Slice, 1 Swing Everyone can use Rush and Pound. Maul and Crush will override Rush and Pound. Scare and Shout will raise your special while Recover restores health, also preventing damage during the turn. Additionally, Scare and Shout do not require your special bar to be half full. Counter and Parry reverse all of your opponent's attacks for that turn. If they do Maul while you have Parry or Counter on, you hit them with Maul instead. ;)

sorry to hear poor boy, unfortunately I am unable to help in any way as I recorded this footage on a ps2 and have only played this on console....i know there is a version on steam but its in Chinese and i am unsure if there is a unofficial english patch

WIESNERX0042 steam version is Only Chinese (simplified only? Not sure) and Japanese. I wanted to buy the game, but was caught off guard about the game not being in either English, French or even Spanish :(

You can one shot people in duels and debates if your war and int and cha are drastically superior to your opponents, iirc it's like a 20 point difference or so?

Debates are never a guarentee in this game. I once lost a debate to a bandit as Jia Xu.

@@jorrogboe I know, I just mean that if your stats are high enough, sometimes that causes you to auto-win duels and debates. Most of the time you still have to go through with the duels and debates, but if you really outclass them sometimes you instakill them.
