Protesters Storm French Port: Breaking Borders

The ‘Jungle’ migrant camp in Calais, northern France, is home to over 5,000 people living in miserable conditions. Many of the residents, who have escaped war and persecution, are now seeking a better life in the UK.
It is a source of frustration for the French government, where in recent weeks there have been moves to reduce the size of the Jungle, including relocating residents to converted shipping containers and bulldozing sections of the camp.
On Saturday January 23, a demonstration organized by activist groups from France and the UK drew a crowd of around 2,000 campaigners and migrants, where they marched from the Jungle to the city’s central square.
Yet tensions rose when more than 100 migrants broke away from the crowd, storming the port, with 50 people successfully boarding a UK-bound passenger ferry named The Spirit of Britain.
VICE News meets residents of the Calais Jungle camp as authorities prepare to bulldoze parts of the site and reports from Saturday’s demonstration, witnessing the chaos that follows.

+Jojangamer13 I noticed it was poor whites too.....these people want to get near money, only there for the money, looking to take white jobs away, not looking for white people, just their money, thinking anybody white has money and they will just laugh at a white that is poor down the road. These migrants cannot be allowed to burden the poor further. Their countries are responsible for them and if their own country is letting them die, that's the way it is for maybe some reason. I don't believe a war torn country doesn't open up refugee camps for them. They have that much sense to make camps when it's that bad. These migrants appear to be making excuses to burden other's they think are rich...lol...they can't get near the rich or even affluent...their attitudes seem off...it looks like they are chasing ideas of where the money is. All the people in the world Asian or dark skinned seem to think getting around white money is the answer to their massive overpopulating.

+Bladeofwar94 Look at how Canada is handling our refugee situation. We are being selective in who we let in. Only families passed by UN Relief screening, and those designated as persecuted minorities either by religion or sexual orientation are allowed. No random ass single guys who left their families behind to steal another countries welfare. Also we establish our criteria by donor and funding basis so that once the refugees arrive they have a pleasant experience will food housing and orientation. But we also pause our intake when we realize we are not meeting a certain criteria. I know Europe geolocation cant afford this but they way europe is going aint good for europeans or refugees. Being unselective is unfortunately happening and it will for sure cause chaos.

+oterenceo The matter is not that simple. Many of the refugees have come from a main puffer-zone, used to be Gaddhafi's Libya. UN Resolution 1970-1973 (authority to take any measures against the Gaddafi led government forces) in 2011 was mainly pushed by France and the UK, despite the warning signs (like Gaddhafi's statement: thousands of migrants will overwhelm Europe) and the US advisory to not intervene during the Arabian Spring, because it is highly possible to result to failed states. The 7 point procedure of Afganisthan collapsed by 2013 because CIA could not handle sectarian radicals supported by pakistani secret service. Besides, Europe did not intervene, relied too long on US support, and downvoted the European Constitution in 2004, only allowing the current system of Lisboa 2009. So European legislature can't address issues of short term. Meanwhile the US public pressured the US military to withdraw from Iraq, so they left a weak iraqi government in the leadership, unable to maintain security, hence the Daesh rised, aquiring military equipment from US allied tribes. Russia also made her move returning as a global military superpower by financing and supporting Bassr Al-Assad's regime as the last post-soviet ally of Russia in the middle-east, and proposing an agreement for Iran forcing the US to give up Iran's "single containment". Blaming the US is easy to do. But rather have a look around what influences US legislature, as opposing factions rival among senate and congress, and see how western powers struggle in a modern age with new social and economic challenges. They withdraw power, so empty space of power is created in regional conflicts which has to be filled by some other mediocre or great regional power. Blaming, turning to radicalism is easy and provides a solution of course. Developing a new answer by the community to address these challenges would be the best though, so we would not have to give up our principles upon which our whole world exists.

I'm a liberal and I think the natives have a right to be angry with a mob of "refugees " throwing shit at them and their yards because they were just standing on the street. These middle eastern refugees need to learn that they're guests and should be grateful to be in any western country while not expecting anything to be given to them but willing to be productive and hardworking, positively contributing to society in which ever country they have been given asylum in or else get deported back. Really irked me when that one refugee said that he wants to get to UK because UK gives you everything, that is not the attitude that any refugee should be having if they really did flee because of being in grave danger.

The market might be a bit rocky at this moment but any problems over there pale in comparison to the catastrophe that is unfolding across Europe as a result of inept leadership and the complete disregard for the welfare and security of European citizens in the name of a 'humanitarian' pipe dream. I have French and German expat friends who are genuinely terrified of what is unfolding back home and are scrambling to extend their contracts here in Hong Kong with some even planning to bring their families over should things get worse. We may not have democracy here (working on that) but we know the authorities will do what it takes to ensure stability and keep us safe.

scandal: i left the UK a few days ago. In France i destroyed my passport, and later today I will get into a small boat to leave for the UK. I have changed my name to Omar X. After i sneak back on the boat, the UK Immigration Officers will put me up in a Hotel (4 Star) and the Government will give me £49.50 each week. I will live in the free hotel for a year or two as i wait for a free flat/home. During that time i will not have to pay for TV license or water bills/ electricity bills. I will eat 3 free meals served to me each day in the hotel, as i access the free WI-Fi on my i-Phone 6. Hard Life
