Protein AMOUNT or Protein TYPE - Build More Muscle With this Answer!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

ATHLEAN-X™ Muscle Building Meal Plans: athleanx.com/proteinmadeeasy
Are you confused about protein? Not sure whether you're eating enough protein or even what type of protein you should be eating? You're not alone. In this video I show you a different way to think about the protein you're getting in your diet in attempt to build new muscle. Most of the time guys focus solely on the amount of the protein they're eating without ever considering where they are getting their protein from. This is a big mistake when it comes to determining how much muscle you will ultimately be able to build.
When it comes adding new lean muscle, there is no denying the fact the consuming protein is important. Protein comes from two primary sources - animal in the form of poultry, beef, fish, yogurt, eggs, and milk and vegetables in the form of legumes, nuts, seeds, nut butters, grains and beans.
Most often we rely on the same sources of proteins over and over and this can cause you to be deficient in some key amino acids that are needed to complete your protein profile. Without the essential amino acids in place, it becomes much harder for your body to build new muscle.
In these cases, supplements like ATHLEAN-Rx that supply high quality whey isolate protein and casein protein become even more valuable. Because it's very hard to get all the protein that you need in a day eating real food, getting it through supplements becomes even more logical. That said, unfortunately, the choices for supplemental protein can be far from good. The quality can be poor and the dollars wasted can be high. If you're going to turn to supplements to build muscle then you need to invest in a brand that you know can deliver high quality time in and time out.
I obviously recommend ATHLEAN-Rx since I know what goes into each and every batch and the high quality and standards that are required for our protein to make it to market. However, you're totally fine trying to get it through good nutrition as well, and that is why I did this video for you.
Hope this makes the whole protein issue and the difference between how much protein is needed to build muscle versus what type of protein builds the most muscle a lot clearer. For a complete step by step meal plan that already explains everything you need to know day by day then head to athleanx.com and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System

Hi Jeff. I've been watching your channel for a while, and really like your no BS approach. There are a lot of channels out there in KZreadville, but I keep coming back to yours because I feel I can trust your recommendations, based on your background and dedication to your craft. I know you will probably never see this comment, but putting it out there anyway. So I am a middle aged guy. 6'4 and been thin all my life, which I'm kinda ok with, but I have been pushing myself for the last year to condition myself to be a little more cut, and have the ability to be active much later in life. So basically, where most people would say a person is on the decline, I want to turn up the gas and change some things inside and out. How does that relate to a protein video you may be asking? I'm lactose intolerant. Even the protein brands like Muscle Milk that say they are lactose free mess with my constitution, and it's just not worth it for me to use them. BUT they are the HIGHEST is all the right stuff in a complete protein. So, I know nutrition, not supplements, is the foundation of making a change in your body, and I am challenged in being able to get enough of the right proteins on a consistent basis to make any type of lasting change. So do you have any nutrition plans specifically for those who are lactose intolerant to be successful? I feel like I'll just be just starting over again, rather than actually beginning to make progress otherwise. I'm not going to just throw up my hands. I'm gonna see what I can research and find out, but figured I would ask. Thanks, Robb

Agreed too much food is too much food, but in most cases it's not going to make you tired unless you eat foods high in sugar which will cause a crash in 30 minutes, or unless you're eating mountains of food. I've carboloaded for a few months now and it's helped me gain lean muscle quickly & I'm not necessarily an "extreme endurance" athlete at all, in fact I'm a sprinter and I do high interval strength training. It served a great purpose for me. Bottom line, digestion will rarely make you tired.

Once your body has burned through quick easy sources of energy (creatine and glucose in the blood stream)(1min) it begins to burn through the glycogen stores until they are depleted(10-15min). About 10min into exercising the body begins to pull energy from fatty acids and ketone bodies via Beta-oxidation, which produces CoA which is fed into the Krebs cycle, however, the process takes about 20 minutes of exercise before the body is burning fats at it's full potential. Hope this helped a little

the problem with this is their are a number of different scales for how good a protein source is for digestibility and amount utilized, this one was adopted simply because it just so happens that the highest value ones are the ones supplement company's can produce easily. i prefer the net nitrogen utilization scale myself so meat and fish sources are the best, which makes sense as these are muscle, and its easier to make muscle from muscle.

Hey Jeff, great stuff. Any chance you can talk about pork? Especially ham and bacon. There's so much controversy on this type of meat. I personally like bacon, not so big on ham, and not big on pork in general, but I'll eat it once in a while and I don't consider it cheating. I've known pork has tons of protein, saturated and unsaturated fats, vitamins and minerals, but then there's the argument about how dirty it is, how unhealthy it is, how many toxins it carries and therefore those toxins are delivered into our system and cause cancer. I personally know a lot of people who have eaten pork their whole lives and are healthy. What's your take on this type of meat? It would be good to hear from someone who looks at things objectively and scientifically compared to a lot of the online research from people who are one sided on topics. Keep up the great work! I love your channel and your Athlean training system is great. I use it and modify it to fit my endurance training and your tips on how to lift have helped out my knee injuries to where I think I'm almost at 100% so that I can get back on my bike and start running hard again. Hopefully my knees hold up and I'll be able to participate in an Iron Man Triathlon before I turn 50! If you had an Affiliate program I'd jump on that right away! =) God bless.

Exactly, it's index is lower. Meaning it doesnt raise the glycogen levels much. Sucrose is in fact a simple sugar. YOU look it up. "Sucrose, the technical name for table sugar, cane sugar, or white sugar..." "Simple carbohydrates or simple sugars - These carbs are broken down and digested very quickly, but most simple carbs contain refined sugars and very few essential vitamins and minerals. Examples include table sugar, fruit juice, milk, yogurt, honey, molasses, maple syrup and brown sugar."

I've heard whey isolate 97 contains no lactose, so I might try that. But it makes getting the right amount and quality of protein harder as most protein bars and products contain whey or casein. Thanks

between 20g-30g in any one serving or portion is plenty. 40 is a little high but at the end of the day you should be getting about 187g of protein based on your body weight

Jeff, videos are great. Wondering if you could do a quick video on "Eggs, with or without yolk". Heard the yolks are good for you. Am I compromising my gains if I eat the yolks?

It's not true that egg yolks are bad for you. See #1 in this excellent article: www.healthline.com/nutrition/11-demonized-foods-you-should-eat. Also see myth #4 in this helpful article: examine.com/nutrition/awful-nutrition-myths/.

Casein gets a lot of flak, personally I don’t understand why. I have a very fast metabolism and tried whey protein for a while, and got minimal results regardless of how much I took in during the day because I digested it before it could do anything. I’ve been on casein for a couple of years now, and not only does it taste so much better, but I see much better results and recovery, and I feel way better afterward. I like that this video explained that sometimes you have to do what’s best for you personally when it comes to protein supplementation instead of blindly knocking one source or another based on circumstantial and subjective evidence. That’s what I love about this channel, it really does put the science back in fitness, and in a way that everyone can under it. Plus it motivates me to get into the gym and bust my fuckin ass every day (without overtraining of course).

05:50 I think now, 'soy protein bad for men' is known as a myth. Would like to know what Jeff thinks about this 10 years later. Best channel!

There are only eight essential amino acids. Histidine is only essential for infants. See p.6, table 1.2, footnote b of a standard reference text for dietetics: Ross, A. Catharine, et al. Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease, Wolters Kluwer Health, 2012.

Ok so what about Hemp protein powder? I've been using good hemp pure protein. 22g per 30g serving loads of amino acids and fibre and natural omegas. Better for the environment and your body due to lower lactose and no sweeteners or crap. But how does this compare to whey as I have been seeing great results

Have you looked into Grams? They are like chick peas but smaller and brown. Weird that i can't find them any where for nutritional facts. So far as i know they have perfect balance of 9 amino acids and high bio availability.
