Funny that people trash talk italian cars but they are wanted by many people. A friend of mine bought a Macan and had an alarm, cameras and tracker fitted to it.

I wonder which automotive supplier is responsible for this vulnerability and most importantly who leaked it.

This is applicable to SO many keyless cars. I live in London & I`m on the nextdoor website, there's literally dozens of them being nicked daily, & that's only people who are on the website. Mostly Range Rovers, Lexus/Toyota/Hyundai/Kia`s. The only way to go is a secondary immobiliser (forget steering wheel locks, they have them off in seconds).

I recently had a dealer software update. Hopefully that prevents this.

Are they plugging something into the radar sensor port?

I thought Alfa had added a password onto the system / OBDII now so that thieves could not do this anymore. I read a lot of QVs had been taken this way.

I used a mosquito to protect my Giulia. The "mosquito" is a very tiny device that is connected to the body computer, hidden somewhere in the car, that disturbs che can bus. It can be configured to lock the gearbox in park position or to block the engine start. It comes with 2 keychain transponder that unlocks it and there is the dedicated app for mobile phones, so the phone can be used as a third transponder to unlock and manage it. Can also be unlocked with a customizable buttons sequence. On my Giulia I asked to set the engine block, and if not unlocked one can press the start button all he wants, it is like doing it without pressing the brake pedal. I don't know if it is available outside Italy. I guess yes.

Surely Alfa Romeo are aware of this vulnerability? They should do a recall and fix this.

Any german car is the same. In the matter of fact, any modern car with no key, are all the same. Very easy to steal. So its not an "Alfa Romeo" thing. Its in general

Iv had a scorpion series. X immobiliser. Fitted too my qv, it cuts out any use of the gearbox so can’t engage any gear, hence won’t drive, the engine will start but it won’t go anywhere, I believe the radar port are same as the ubd port, but on the outside, hopefully I’m write and my car is a little bit safer but you never know these days 😡😡😡

Ive had a bracked/shield installed surrounding the radar. jtd-perfomance sells these. another (dutch) company replaces the connector so it wont fit in their computer Either way you probably lose the plastic radar cover, which is not sold separately as far as i know. but at least you keep your car

its great how car theives can steal these super expensive modern cars isnt it yet 99% would be stumped by the old cars that just have keys and maybe a basic immobiliser

The worst is even if you would comee out and put one or both of them in a wheelchair they would sue you and you pay for the rest of your life. Scum...nothing more then scum. And i think they somehow copy the key. I think with Audi or BMW it happens as well. You should always put your key in a box that resist being detected. But i don't understand how modern cars can be stolen that easy. With the somewhat older cars where the imobilizer kicks in i think it's a no go. But they do it in broad daylight and just act like nothing happens. How awful.

Car companies don’t want to stop this as if they do then the repair trade will take a huge financial hit and insurance companies will loose out on increasing your premiums. Google which companies own which motor car and related groups. You’ll be amazed at how many are under the same umbrella. Even some manufacturers have their logos inside fuel caps. For example BP investment in Ford. Why do I get the same mpg out my modern Jaguar as I did out my 30yr old Jaguar. That’s not progressive development it’s just greedy conglomerates

It's very real, sadly. Unreal how quickly they can steal a car, theives moved on from scanning key on your doorstep .

It's an Alfa. It will break down before they reach there destination, at which point you have two morons on the side of the road with no way home. I'm sure it's a defence mechanism. Thief repellent.
