    The best cars were produced until around the year 2000 - less complicated, less electronics, more durable (original) quality parts, easy to fix without disassembling everything around.

    This is why I love my 1.4 Giulietta. I have room for everything, since it also needed space for a 2.0 diesel.

    I also had a guiletta, now a stelvio. guilletta is a toy versus a stelvio. 1.4 multiar 170hp at 200,000 km that drank more oil than gasoline. of my 3 Alfa's the quality is poor, interior plastic, paint weak

    Holy cow, that does look like quite a bad bit of design, from a mechanic's point of view! Such a shame, today's stuff is so overly-complicated... best of luck Neil, and a TON of patience! :)

    As you could tell I was rather shocked how difficult it is to replace rubber seal because Alfa skimped on quality.

    @@ItaliaAutos Quite, it became evident as soon as you realised what had to come off in order to reach the damned thing. Looks like our beloved Alfa is indeed skimping on quality control - sad but true.

    There are a lot of things I found on my giulia that is making me think twice about buying an Alfa again. Quality control, warranty claims and customer service being the main ones

    All those cheap old Alfas I had - Spuds, Alfettas, 75's. None of them pissed oil out. Strange!

    Had a nightmare with my 159 Tbi Ti last year, changed the oil and filter and when i ran the car oil was pouring out the small metal pipe on the filter housing/oil cooler, turned out the plastic redirection valve had broke (and it was lost), new oil cooler at £190 and another 4L of Castrol GTX to replace what leaked out, that was an expensive oil change lol.

    I had to do the oil cooler o rings on my c220 merc, a lot more stuff had to come than that to get the cooler off! That one looks easy in comparison!

    Yup... unfortunately this is starting to be an issue on the 2.0s but nothing compared to a valve cover gasket job on the 2.9qv

    @@JostVice Nothig seroius fortunately. Regular oil changes around 10000kms (VERY VERY importanat because of the multiair filter) and there are some minor issues with the water pumps and coolant leaks on the early models.

    Had this issue on my 2.0 Stelvio - contacted an independent Alfa expert and he said the issue was that the bolts holding the oil cooler to the engine block will have worked loose and they just needed tightened. My mechanic tightened the bolts he could reach and the problem was solved and has not returned over a year later. That may or may not have worked here but thankfully it worked on mine.

    The core issue is on some engines bolts not torqued properly during factory assembly. So they work lose, leaks. Hit or miss if tightening them fixes or not. Perhaps gasket becomes damaged from oil leaking past for long enough. If leak starts small and isn't immediately addressed.

    Please don't complain. Better this type of leak than the rear main seal leak on a Honda Jazz, that is typical of this car.

    I’ve got the same leak on my 2.0 jtdm 159. There you have two plastic coolant lines with quick connectors. The lines are easy to break. I’m thinking it’s easier and not so much more expensive to change to whole oil cooler housing with the cooler.

    @@ItaliaAutos still I managed to break the plaatic coolant line when I did it. Replaced it with rubber hose and clamps for now. My oil cooler gasket had been leaking for a while, it drops oil straight to the lower engine mount and ruins the rubber bushing.

    To remove the rear upper control arm of a 2016 Mazda 3. You have to drop the rear subframe. Like wtf is it with new cars!!

    Neighbour needed a clutch slave cylinder for his Peugeot 3008... it's inside the gearbox 🙄 so driveshaft, sub frame etc have to come off.... he scrapped the car as the cheapest clutch kit here is 400 euro plus labour and vat. Mechanic said they are a bastard to do as well. Also had a problem with the electric handbrake not releasing and the part is under the pas seat ffs and no guarantee changing it would fix the fault.

    I think this is a problem and common failure point not only confined to Alfas and Fiats. Have heard of it on AUdi/VW cars as well.

    Gosh, the 2.0 in the Giulia and Stelvio has to be one of the worst petrol engines put into an Alfa. Nothing but issues and even catastrophic failures I see [part of Alfa facebook groups]. Doesn't even sound good if at all and now to add they are not mechanic friendly to work on.

    Yep and the MA engine needs regular oil and filter changes otherwise the engine packs up as well. The oil dripping out of this one looks very dirty!

    Love my giulia it's the 2.2 jtd .they've got faults and a mare to work on but they drive beautifully. Best alfa I've owned .would have another especially a veloce or qv

    There are stainless steel shrouds available that can be installed over the radar mounting, but no factory fix as far as i'm aware.

    Just depends on what goes wrong and what engine. Servicing is loads easier on these.

    If the oil filter was loose, think I would try that bottom right torx bolt a nip up anyway first you never know.

    I did one of these oil coolers on a Stelvio. Absolutely night mare of a job, so much stuff had to be removed just to gain access to the 6 x bolts that hold the cooler to the engine block, and such a flimsy pointless rubber gasket seal that looks like it wouldn’t last 5 mins. Only thing I found was 3 bolts at the lower area on the oil cooler were finger tight the other 3 were tight, so did the 3 lower bolts work loose with vibration and allow the cooker to leak out oil.. I had to remove the Catalyst then have the aircon system de gassed to remove the aircon pipes and then all the heat shields around the turbo (nightmare of a job) just why make something so complicated to work on . Bring back the old cars. Please

    @@ItaliaAutos no you have to get the A/C pipes out of the way to gain access to the oil cooler top bolts, so you need to be discharged the A/C system and it’s also the new A/C Gas so it’s not cheap to get the system degassed and recharged again.

    Not as bad as the Mercedes V12 that to change an £1 oil o-ring in the valley of the V you need to take almost the all engine apart and takes thousands of pounds to do 😂

    Why should a relativelly new (and expensive) car leak ?? Can this perhaps be justified by bad use and maintenance?? My 1982 Fiat Ritmo Abarth doesn't leak! My 1991 75 1.800....doesn't leak either !! But even if they would, I' m sure that repairing wouldn't cost much! And , anyway, those are cars of the 70s and 80s.

    meglio delle Honda, che hanno gli airbags che sono granate a frammenazione (Takata è fallita per questo) oppure che hanno gravissimi problemi di diluizione dell'olio in coppa a causa dell'iniezione diretta (cause collettive in america), e anche meglio delle Toyota cui si spacca l'EGR cooler che Toyota dice a causa del cloro nella benzina... E ovviamente non lo passa in garanzia, in Italia, perché in Cina ha richiamato 900mila veicoli per il medesimo problema. Fiat tutta la vita.
