The only con I have with my 2002 7.3L Diesel Excursion since new, finding a home with a garage large enough was tough. Now it lives in our heated and air conditioned garage. With the performance upgrades our fuel mileage is over 20MPG. Amazing vehicle and now it is 20 years young. No need to fit this 4X4. 👍👍👍. 2-14-22

I have a 2003 Black Ford Excursion 6.0 L with 311,xxx miles. It has a 44 gallon tank, and gets 17.5 mpg in mixed driving. We had all six engine design flaws corrected at 297,xxx miles (cost $12K, including new front leather seats). Next, we will get it re-painted and put a new stereo in it. Well worth the maintenance costs. If you could buy a new one, it would cost $70k+. I am 6'7" tall, and about 335lb. We travel all over the country in this thing. The truck is fantastic.

I've got a bullet proofed 7.3 with a banks exhaust and bully dog programmer. I'm putting about 500hp on the ground and getting between 20 and 28 mpg. The last trip I took in it, I didn't do much less than 80 the whole time and managed to to get over 600 miles on just under 3/4 of a tank! It's worth the money to get the upgrades! They pay for themselves in no time!

DO NOT SELL IT!!! Blew the engine(stuck thermostat and the wife kept driving it) in mine and bought an Expedition for her to drive. I have to lean over and raise my arm for her to access the console! Finally replaced the engine in the Excursion with a Ford factory rebuild installed at the dealer. It is so nice to have my "living room" back on the road! I dread riding in the Expedition. We are about to give it to my daughter an buy a more practical vehicle for my wife to sell Real Estate in, a Porche Cayenne! She needs a smaller car and she earned it. I'll keep the Excursion! Hauled five kids and a horse trailer for many years. I still drive it a short distance to work. I really love this truck. I have owned two of the excursions so far. First one was the 02, the second one still is the 05 model all in diesel since I pull a 20ft cargo trailer to the tracks. I prefer my 05 model 6.0l over the 02 7.3l model. Yes, either one needs some loving, the engines and drivetrain will really piss you off. Ford was so lacking. What were they thinking? A D50 with leaf springs for an suv for the front suspension? That weighs in at around 8000lbs empty? The front pinion of the D50 will snap off easily. Leaf springs on an SUV? Give me the F350 coils with the D60 front end..... Kind of cool though to have the mattress laid out in the back watching DVD's with the kids. Did I say that I like the Excursion???? Great choice man. Ford Excursion is the best SUV ever made. Pros of owning Excursion: you have high durable, very safe, reliable and solid bold looking SUV, which has largest cargo space, roomiest interior and the best towing capability. Cons of owning Excursion: every vehicle has pros and cons, but pros of owning Excursion are much more than cons. Main problem is that, all Excursions are used ones, with more 15-year-old age, and can’t buy new one. But, this old Excursions are still much better in many ways, than newer or even all new SUVs. Ford must produce Excursions again. Expedition MAX is nice, but Excursion is much stronger, much durable and much bolder SUV. In comparison of 2021 large GM SUVs, Expedition MAX and Navigator L are smaller and weaker. But, new Excursion will be the biggest and the strongest. So, Ford must show everyone who is the King is full-size SUV segment.

I'm in NC with a 2003 Limited 6.0 (yes the dreaded 6blow!) She's treated me good up to 220k but did develop a hot no start situation last year towing the boat. I took a few months over the winter and re-sealed the engine, studs, tuner, etc, and it's great now.....or at least I'm holding my breath. Great video and you gained a sub just from your humor my Excursion Brother!

I have found the 6.0 problems generally stem from people using tuners. I've seen bone stock 6.0 engines in F350s go well over 600k. As long as their maintained well and left alone, they're good. But once you start having issues like you are with the no-start, it's probably a good idea to upgrade. Thank you for the sub! Be sure to check out our other videos!

The keyless door code is up behind the fuse box on the security system box. I haven’t had to change any of the door latches yet. My 7.3L Excursion is awesome. I still have the stock headlights and I can see great at night. I had an F-350 that I put a 60gal tank in that was another 7.3L. Don’t complain about 44gal of gas. It’s also not that bad on mileage either. I get high teens to low 20’s, yes I may have done some engine upgrades to get that but it still counts to me. Not sure what you have against the 4r100 transmission? Mine stops on a dime, and I always have brakes all the time. I will never get rid of my Excursion.

I had an ‘05 6.0 Eddie Bauer 2WD with tuner, turbo back exhaust and after market intake. Drove it 130k miles and traded it 2010 for a new F-250. I had the split rear doors. Only had two issues. EGR gasket failed in warranty and some fuel injection sensor went bad, also in warranty. It got 20 mpg. It was really fast. Used to cruise at 100 on I-10 coming out of New Orleans heading to Houston. Wish I could get a new one with the 6.7. The aftermarket conversions for modern Super Duties are too pricey and I know from experience that conversions are usually full of issues.

Just traded my '01 V10 that I've owned and used as a daily for the last 6 years for a new Ranger. I did miss it after my last trip to the hardware store for 4'x8' plywood. Unfortunately, all of the rockers, wheel arches, and few other spots were rusting through and fuel economy ~8mph is terrible for a daily. Towed a 34' travel trailer, no problem, but now we have a diesel motorhome and Ranger can be flat towed. Loved my Ex. though.

First of all, it is a truck, not an SUV on an automobile chassis. 7.3L is amazing. Finding a garage for this truck is not easy, mine has lived in a garage since new, now in an air conditioned garage. 7 foot garage doors are just a little short. No rust on my Las Vegas Excursion, I still get “nice truck” from observers. First set of brakes lasted 80,000 miles. With a few updates from BANKS I get amazing fuel mileage. Enjoy your truck.

I love my 02 6.8 limited, paid $4000 cash and so far all its needed was oil changes and a alternator and threw a new battery in to be safe. Its at 204,893 miles as of today and still like new inside and out besides rocker rust. Great truck and the gas mileage does suck but i do use my cruise control alot which seems to really help. Also removed the rear seat to take some weight out because i dont use it. Ik it doesnt make much of a difference taking out the third row in a truck this heavy but figured it couldnt hurt. I travel 32 miles to and from work on roads that are 55 mph speed limits but im in a more country area in michigan that butts up near the suburbs so theirs not a insane amount of traffic or anything here. I set the cruise at about 57 mph and get on average between 14-15 mpg on the ol' lie-o-meter, highest it ever showed was 17.8 with cruise set to 60 on a brisk 36 degree morning but when Im stuck in city driving with lots of stop and go it instantly goes down to 7-9mpg. Highway driving usually averages me out at 15-16 mpg at 70 anything higher mpg suffers but again idk for sure because those average mpg trip meters like to lie. I also have no exterior mods like the brush guard, lift or anything besides rain guards on the windows and slightly bigger then stock tires.

All 10 new Coil-on-Plugs & plugs at 240K solved my Error codes on 2 pistons.
