Wife and I born and raised in NH, then lived all over the country while in the service. Retired back to NH because we didn't find any place else that was nicer! Best thing about NH is the weather--by the time you are bored with a season, the next one is starting. Thanks for your videos.

In 1936 my state in the northern Great Plains had -58 in the winter and 120 in the summer. That must have been a horror show in the Dirty Thirties/Great Depression. We didn't reach 120 again until 2006 and haven't gotten down that low, let alone in one year. I think all the northern states east of the Rockies have similar winter conditions as NH, with varying amounts of snow. 110 and up with a dry heat is still HOT, no matter what people would like you to believe. A gusty wind blowing dirt onto your sunscreen gives a gritty feel no ad ever mentions. :) There is someone here to complain about every season lasting too long. What I wonder is how I would do with less sun. I tend to be sleepy on cloudy days and not achieve as much.

Late to the party, my wife and I have lived here since the mid 1970s, having grown up in the Chicago area. 1) We were looking to move to a more rural area. Our first though of course was west but rural areas there are really rural, neighbors may be miles away. NH being settled prior to the automobile individual towns tend to have different personalities rather then the post WWII urban sprawl I experienced growing up. Needing to have a car is an issue but at least for us finding a place to park it is not a problem. Something you did not mention that came as a surprise to us flatlander was the NH road system is a function of topology and old Indian paths. 2) People tend to complain about the cold here in NH. Growing up in the Midwest it was colder and had less snow. If you live in a location with four seasons more snow and less cold is hard to beat. Although I have to mention with things warming up winters now often consist of less snow and more ice because if it rains during the day it freezes over night making getting out an about interesting. I spent 4 years of military service in hot areas, prior to that I had not really thought about how much I enjoyed the seasonal change. 3) I think appreciation of history tends to come with age. Growing up in the Midwest not much predates the 1871 Chicago fire. The cornerstone on the building my father worked at was dated 1921. For me that may have been as old as the Egyptian pyramids. As you said in NH history is more alive and old buildings are being actively used so that is interesting for my wife and I but our children are pretty oblivious to local history, their lives are focused looking to the future. All in all we are happy we moved to NH and our two children continue to live in the state.
