    I was born and bred in Victoria. The Army sent me to WA in 1974 when it was just a big country town on the West Coast. Whilst it is 100% a part of Australia, it might as well be another country, as most Eastern Staters see it. I moved back to Victoria in 2010 ostensibly to explore the Eastern States, which has been fabulous. However, now moving back to WA for that uniqueness and laid back lifestyle to finish my days. Thanks Vic. Come visit some time if you dare. 😎👍

    Wonderful video for new migrants or expats coming over to make Perth their new home. Great answers to the many questions we have been asking ourselves. Fabulous insights Cathy and keep on doing this for the ones still stuck in Southern Africa. A message of hope for us.

    Thank you for this very informative video. Wish your family all the best in the future there. The bottom line is, wherever you live, there are pro's and cons. One common denominator con, is property. Whether you are in London, Dublin, Perth, Melbourne, the single most challenging aspect of life, seems to be the ability to find rental accomodation and even bigger challenge to find property you can afford to buy. When my wife and I were in Melbourne in 2007/2008 we were dumb founded by the shortage of rental properties, the wildly varying "what you get for your money", and only blind luck, meant we moved out of a hotel and into an apartment. The price of the chicken coop apartment were were in was 400K Ozzy $$$ then. I shudder to think what it is now.

    One tip on buying a house here, if you buy a property in a Direct line from the shopping Precinct to a certain community expect to get robbed. They tend to steal on the way to and from the shops.

    It’s very very hot here in Summer. It is remote from the rest of the world. There is not much culture here. It’s a young city so there isn’t much culture. There is Indigenous culture but it’s hard to learn about. Perth is weird. I’ve lived here my whole life. I’m 56. I would recommend living in Melbourne if you want more art and music or arts in general. Perth is more money oriented, sports, restaurants, wine & beer, outdoor activities. There are a lot of wildflowers during wildflower season. You have to go out to where they are growing. Wildflowers are only growing in parks within the metro area.

    I flew over Indian ocean..Perth to jhb 5x , there and back in my life.. I sailed to SA from Sydney I 70s with my parents. 24 days on Indian ocean. Docked in lovely Durban. I was blessed to experience the old SA. Feel sorry for younger ones that will never know how amazing it was. Of course u like Perth compared to new SA. I still get very homesick for old SA but I realise it's gone. Old Jhb was the best city I ever have been to.

    What a lovely comment to read. Despite all of South Africa's issues- it will always hold a special place in our hearts. We grew up in the Lowveld - and we hope our children can live a similar childhood - so grateful to be in Australia where they can enjoy such wonderful nature and outdoor lifestyles💓 especially Perth... I know my little girl will grow up Aussie- but for my husband and I - we will always we be "Scatterlings of Africa" at heart 🥹

    Small-town Perth has a population of 2.2 MILLION, a quarter the population of London. London is the capital of the UK, until recently the financial capital OF THE WORLD, a one of the major few European and world cities .... for CENTURIES. SO .. get PERSPECTIVE. Perth is the 4th most populous city in Australia, Western Australia is the whole western THIRD of the continent. We are proudly "isolated", though long-time residents feeling anything but isolated. Quite frankly, we live in the best place on Earth. Bar none. REALLY. Perth has a Mediterranean climate, hot dry summers, mild wettish winters, and when Perth turns on the good/great weather, quite frankly, there is no better weather ANYWHERE in the world. Sweet air, chirping birds, warm sunny with gentle breezes. And some of the best metropolitan beaches in the world, mere minutes away from much of the population.

    You need to purchase an inexpensive music software to apply equalization to your audio content to minimize the base tones to make your narration more clear. This is common with cheap microphones. This fix is easy and quick.

    I don't think some of your 'cons' are correct. The crime here is probably less than in the eastern states and definitely less violent crime than in South Africa. Home buying may seem expensive but still cheaper than other states. Travel to other places can be expensive but West Aussies tend to go to Bali, Malaysia and Thailand rather than the eastern states because it's relatively cheap and closer.

  • @cathybotha

    @cathybotha

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks Marie!! Pros and cons can be very subjective 😊 I agree definitely less violent crime than SA - as I mentioned. Comparing Perth with Adelaide on the crime stats - Adelaide has much lower ratings - and having lived in the UAE 🇦🇪 - crime rates there were incredibly low. Still in no way want to seem I am "complaining" as I acknowledge the Police force here is very active and the crime is DEFINITELY Nowhere near what it was in SA. I think travelling abroad costs become a con when you need to return home every now and then to visit family- but there are definitely affordable holiday destinations as you mention.... places like Europe/USA etc are generally expensive to travel to from Aus. Home buying here is a con as an expat- someone who may be used to a different currency and property market from their home country. Thanks for sharing you views- I appreciate your insight!! My views are purely from experience and hopefully act as a reference to others travelling from other countries.

    I've not lived anywhere else in Australia, so I can't compare that. But as an ex-Londoner, I see Perth as a very particular place. Many think it's paradise. It's an easy place to live. But it's mostly suburbs. The beaches are amazing. But it is very isolated and that does effect the outlook of people here. Also currently it's expensive to fly anywhere, including across Australia.

    Hi Cathy, Thank you for doing this video….my wife and I spent 2 weeks in WA back in September 22, on a bus tour for 1 week down south and then doing our own trip up to Monkey Mia and back. We both loved the Infrastructure and the parks that go into the suburbs….living on the Central Coast of NSW most of our lives we felt drained by the state of NSW was heading. So a decision was made to look at moving to WA, so we put Our house up the sale and sold it in New South Wales within two weeks. So we both took a week off work and looked for a home in WA….We found the house we wanted (and with a pool) around 40min north of Perth. We settle both houses in March 2023 and can’t wait to get over there…I must admit every person we’ve come across were so friendly and nice. I’m not worried about the crime side of things so much as you know it’s all around in certain place as long as you be aware of the surrounding, besides my wife and I are Double Dan Black Belts in Karate 🥋 and capable of looking after ourselves, SHE’S ONE YOU DON’T WONT TO MESS WITH. 😉 So that’s my story and you never know may run into you and your family someday. Take care.😊

    Crime is everywhere unless you don’t live in this world it’s just information she’s researched online on your local websites and telling someone to go back where they came from (South Africa when she clearly said the crime rate is higher) is rude
