I was born in L.A. at General Hospital in the early 60s. At the time, we lived in Venice. I then spent my formative years in the Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica, right by the beach and the high school. If you think Santa Monica in the 60s must’ve been neat, you would be correct. We later moved to L.A.’s west side. I have been here all my life but never lived on the northeastern side of the city. However, for me, Los Feliz is iconic. It has the most historically L.A. vibe and feel of any area in the city. Arlington Heights and West Adams come close. Bunker Hill once personified L.A., but as a residential area it no longer exists.

Not everyone here pronounces Los Feliz as ‘Loss FEE-luss’. Many, like myself, and I am NOT Latina, pronounce it the Spanish way. Some say ‘Loss Feliz’, some say ‘Los FEE-luss’. It’s one part of town whose pronunciation is all over the place, even amongst us native Angelinos.

It’s almost as crazy as how we pronounce Los Angeles!!

I'm local and grew up right next door in Atwater Village. No one that grew up here pronounced it the proper way. Never heard anyone that wasn't a transplant or first generation immigrant pronounce it correctly. We know it's wrong but we're not changing.

@@mjwbulich: What about the natives who are or were Spanish speakers? Did they pronounce it incorrectly too?
