Pros and Cons of Acrylic, Gel and Dip Powder Nails
How do you decide whether to get acrylic, gel or dip powder nails at the nail salon? Do you understand the differences among them? Are any dangers associated with artificial nails?
I did not know some of the risks involved with each type of artificial nail but now that I do, I lean toward nail strips or press-on nails, my favorites being Color Street Nails and Dashing Diva Nails.
Let's talk about all of these options and their pro's and con's. I want to hear your thoughts and experiences too. This is a judgement-free zone! And I love to learn as much as I love to teach.

Yay! Thanks for your input! 🥰
I am purchasing my own gel dip powder as well as the base and top coats. I also take a small suitcase to my nail shop as I buy my own files, bits, and polishes. Anything and everything I need at the nail salon is only used by me.

Great video. Thanks you for breaking it down. I started off trying Essie gel couture which does not require any uv lights but obviously does not last as long as real gels. I decided to try gels and was really happy with the results. I am not comfortable with UV light on my hands so it is something I only do once a year or so. I do love how they look but can't get used to the thought of uv light exposure. They do sell gloves online that block uv light, but not sure how well they work.

Any time I try another brand I am very disappointed. I'm a true-blue fan as well!!!
I learned so much from this video! Thank you. I’ve sporadically used Kiss Nails, but I’ve never tried anything else. I’m like a nail virgin! LOL

🤣 I’m glad you learned something new!
I love press--on's but i recently went back to the salon for acrylic cos i can't stay away from water. However, i recently saw a video where they used acrylic to glue on the press on nails. There's a technique to it( how much acrylic, where, angle etc)but i imagine they will last longer. I'm motivated to go back to my press-on. Thanks for the video. Sending love from South Africa 🇿🇦

I just ordered some new sets and noticed Dashing Diva has a stronger adhesive on their newest Magic Press nails that lasts 10 days. I can’t wait to try them!!!
I really appreciate the detail of this video. I want to get my nails done for the holidays and I can’t decide which ones. I think I will look into the press on. I’ve never even considered that option. Thanks!

Be careful of the press on nails, you have to use nail glue. I did a set at before Valentine’s Day and I’m still trying to get the darn things off.

When I use glue they don’t last as long! Isn’t that weird? I prefer Dashing Diva Magic Press nails and the adhesive is kind of like rubber cement. It doesn’t combine well with glue.
Hi Michelle, I have not never tried this type of nail strip. I have gel applied to my nails. I find that the manicurist is the key to healthy nails. I would be willing to try the nail strips.

If I go back to the salon, gel will be my choice. And I agree the manicurist’s standards are everything!
Great review. I learned something

Try using a hair dryer after putting on press ons! It melts the stickers into a “glue”. They last for more than 6 days

Ive never done traditional acrylic, I hate the smell of it and it damages nails. I usually get gel or dip. I love dip but it's a lot bulkier than gel, plus it takes a long time to put on. I've tried press ons, dashing diva and color street. None of those last more than a day on me, idk why. I like the glamnetic press ons. They last longer on me, and they're reusable. I only get regular polish on my toes and it lasts.

I'll have to try glamnetic next! I assume it's magnetic nail polish that holds them on... ? That sounds so cool!
I've used color street and have always liked em. Using the press on one's make me nervous, the olden day ones never stayed on. I was always bumping my hands and breaking them. Wonder if they are that much better now and worth trying.

They are that much better! If you know you had time to let them “set” (ideally overnight), you’re not going to lose one unexpectedly. And I’ve never had one chip!
SNS powders do have some antimicrobials like regular nail polish, but salons should also be using disposable containers for each client!

Just to ask, would washing hands straight after getting dip nails done, would that not solve the sanitary issue? Just asking, as I have a dip appointment coming up later this week (first time, which is why I am here).
How do you feel about Olive and June nail system, which is supposed to be non-toxic and last a week?
@MichelleFoxBeauty
8 ай бұрын
I am not familiar with it but I'm super curious! Sounds great! A lot of systems that last a long time for others don't last long for me because I have oily nail beds and very thin nails, but as far as feeling good about trying them, I say "go for it!". Thanks for commenting!
Acrylics arent banned in NY. Dipping powder puts me in extremely embarrassing situations flying off my nail 💅 while im coding infront of my coworkers. I know acrylic isnt healthy but it looks like thats what suits me now

I think there’s a particular type of acrylic (ingredient) that is illegal to use but some low end shops still use it. Acrylics are very convenient… no doubt about it! Thanks for commenting 🥰

@MichelleFoxBeauty Oh dear thank you for posting all these useful videos, after watching a couple of your tutorials I decided to go with hard gel. Wish you all the best
I think my nail salon used acrylic and not gel. I asked for dip first but they recommended gel and she said the powder was the gel. Last time I got gel it was an actual gel out of the container. This was the same as the acrylic powder they mix with the blueish liquid..... Did I get lied to?

No, I've not had a problem with that. I know exactly what you mean, though!!! I hate that too!!! 🤦🏻♀️
Could they just ask you to use hand sanitizer before they start working on your nails? It will have time to dry off while they do the filing so that it doesn't damage the dip product.

I don't know, I'm not in the industry. I'm sure it would help to some degree!
I live in NY and they still offer acrylic nails in my area. So I don’t know where in NY they are banned.

Color street nails are absolutely garbage. They eventually destroy your nails. Would never use them again. I know 4 people that sold them and decided to stop because of the damage they do to your nails

@christinapresto6951 IDK about them being bad for you, but Color Street is an MLM - not a small business. You can purchase nail strips at WalMart or anywhere for much cheaper and they're just as good.
