I love this because I feel like u guys read my mind. I learned acrylic and was really having problems and got frustrated and stop practicing altogether. When I found gel it was like perfect. I will go back to acrylic someday but I love gel.

me too but, acrylic lasts longer than gel Now its not recomended for the Docs bc of the fungus on the nail that you may get.

I'm an Esthetician (9 years) and Nail Tech (since April). I perform all my services out of the same room located inside a salon. Because of that, I can't offer acrylic applications. My facial clients would not appreciate the smell. But since I received the first large mystery box with all the acrylic in it, I thought I'd practice acrylic application at home in the event that if I move to another location, I'll already know how to do acrylic. ;)

What about developing a odorless monimer?

I'm self taught. I learned acrylic first and then ventured into gel. Doing nails is really just a hobby for me and each week I end up doing both systems because I love gel on my nails however my daughter loves acrylic on hers. I do find that the versatility of being able to use both systems makes it easier in both application situations.

Started doing my own nails because lots of places have sadly missed up my nails and like painting my nails but to get into nails and doing it for myself give me a deeper understanding of how hard it is and how much goes in them and I just love it.

Acrylic never stays on my nails. I have had multiple nail techs do acrylics on me and within about three days, I can take the whole nail completely off without it hurting. My natural nails are extremely thin, flexible, and ridged. But I found that when gels were put on they stayed and didn't want to come off. So, now that's what I get, gels. I'm so glad that we have these options because otherwise, I wouldn't be able to have the nails that I love. Thank you for taking the time to do your videos. I am on a mission to do my own gel fills, as they are so bulky and lumpy when I go to the salon. These videos are so helpful. I'm also learning a lot about other stuff and it's very enjoyable.

When I finished school in 2000, hard gel was my go-to because it was odorless. It was also unpopular with established techs because they were heavy handed from using acrylic and could not apply gel with as much success giving me a niche. Thanks to your wetter acrylic application method I am able to be successful in acrylic services, even with little practice. I only have one acrylic client but still feel confident servicing her as my gel skills seem to work with acrylic application. Thank you for providing great products and wonderful instruction...OWC's as well as social media! Now, if you can add an Odorless Monomer option the I (and other techs with odor restrictions) can utilize ALL of your products.

I’ve used both but I much prefer gel. I feel like there’s more versatility in formula flexibility. Some come very flexible for weak/bendy nails and it won’t separate, then there are some that are almost as rigid as acrylic to give that very hard cast-like effect. I end up going faster with gels too, the self-leveling builder gels make filing a much shorter job. I do agree the builder gels have a much shorter window for pinching the extension but I do feel it rushes me/makes me go faster. I think the only con of gels, for me is having to do ombré nails. It’s much easier with acrylic.

As an amateur ( I do nails on a friend, simply because I'm arty and love doing it!) I have never used acrylic because of the smell. I can't have bad smells in the house! Occasionally I fix a broken nail and I can build them out but I use a builder gel or a polygel for that. The really important choice I would think for a pro, is to learn e file work and master the airbrush. As a crafter, I already had airbrush skills (great fun - if you are scared of it, bite the bullet!) and I taught myself how to shape/remove product safely. I never soak gel off now and my friend has the nails she always wanted. I watch this channel because you two and Tracey are so entertaining!

This video came at a really good time I’m taking classes in the new year and was going to shy away from gel. I’ve started practicing hard on my acrylic and am really getting the hang of it. I now see why I should look into the gel classes as well. Nobody here really wants gel nails so that’s why I never really focused too hard on it.. dope ! New sub.

Thank you for these videos! I got my nail tech certification 20 years ago this comin up May in MA. But Back then they did not tought us about gel, we did learn about airbrush art and Nail wrap😂 besides acrylic of course 😊, after 5 yrs of doing nails in the salon, in CT with no license (since licenses was not need it in CT) I quit since I only did it to work as a part time while I finished my Nursing career but I will say I still did it from home once a while but now with covid many of my neighbor rather for me to do it than going to a salon and I have been learning in this past year that there is so much more out there than just wraps and acrylic. I am even becoming and expert in Gel and polygel💅 sucky part is i can't work on my neighbors anymore until I get my nail tech licenses 2021 new rule in CT😊... But thank you guys for your channel I have learned so much from pricing to what its new out there! I am really getting motivated to get back in the nail tech and releases some stress to my co-workers at the Hospital😊💖 lets see if my kids alow me the time😂😂

So glad you're putting your videos out. Very informative. I prefer gels, because they are very clear vs acrylic. Also hate the smell of monomer, it gives me a headache and the smell lingers for days after using it, not to mention most ppl don't like it either.

I learn the gel nails first way back in 2008 then learn acrylic by myself and following some tutorials and then go a training after..I learn a lot from all your videos..thanks😘

I did one nail just now and I notice the following; Polygel is softer-con (I can bend it...a little), no smell, My cuticle application with this is perfect, I can do Ombre, love that I can take my time! Acrylic (HARDER, last longer, encapsulation, more design variety! I love the ease of poly but the durability of acrylic is Stellar!

I love you guys! I would just like to say to all the new nail techs start out by specializing in one thing get really good at that and then yes it’s awesome to know everything, but you have a whole lifetime to learn just keep working , keep perfecting your craft and you will get there . Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to know everything right now I’ve seen lots of girls and guys burn out and quit trying to know everything right now. as long as you practice practice practice you will continue to get better and you will continue to grow.

I just finished my acrylic course with my local YN mentor and loved it! I love working with acrylic and have been playing around with it for a while. I think I will always use it for structure building and use gel for colour etc. Then again, I haven't worked with hard gels so shouldn't shoot that down yet. Fully agree that one should try to learn everything throughout one's career. But for me, I want to master acrylic first. Great topic!

I over expose myself to fumes odor and dust at the beginning of my career trying to practice. At this point after 12 years of holding a license I can say that I developed good skills with the electric file but I have a lot to learn of how to build a beautiful nail with either acrylic or gel. I'm so grateful for this channel. I accidentally get into nail school trying to enroll for Cosmo and non speaking or reading english. The classes I could take wore at night with no teacher, a good friend classmate will show me how to do things some days until she quit. One day I ask the teacher in charge of the nail school if she will allow me to use the dictionary and the awnser was no that I should go to an Spanish speaking class in a different state. After many years I still exited to learn from every video and believe that you guys are the best educators ever!! Thank you so much!!!

I tried to do acrylic but the smell is overwhelming. Also, my husband smelled it once and got extremely ill. So I'm doing hybrid gel to keep sculpting. When the weather cools down I'll take the acrylic out 100 feet from the house and try again. I'm also trying gel, but not doing too well with it yet. And yes, I e-file. So much faster and easier! Love your videos!

Thank you for a interesting talk about both systems. I personally love working with acrylic because its easier for me to do than gel. I also struggled with gel and the heat in the uv lamp. I think you can do more specific things with acrylic rather than gel (bows, figure ect). Must say I am absolutely not a pro still learning by doing 😁🙏 Greg you are my favorite nail tech ninja😁❤

Thank you for sharing, yes 3d art seems to be a little easier with acrylic but have seen some techs acheive it with gel. Our new lamp eliminates the heat spike because it has a gradual heat setting that slowly increases power.

I learned both in school however I only ever had 1-2 hard gel clients. I feel like the average person not in our industry don’t know the difference. I like to change it up based on the design. But for our salon we don’t give the client the option because it becomes too confusing for them, so we do what is best for the client and then let them know what the differences are.

Very nice talk ! Because of you ♡ I started to learn gel a year ago, and trying to be a nail ninja 🤭 we always learn, and it's exciting ! I do prefer acrylic, and lots of my clientele like the smell of it (weird peeps). When I do a first time client, I usually pick acrylic to see how they handle and ajust after that. When I teach, I prefer teaching first acrylic and then gel, because we can see the construction better and feels like there is lots of thin nails problem at first with gel. And the ratio thing is so different.. I don't know...

I'm a licensed nail tech guy's and have been since 2017. My issues are literally my issues. I have developed severe savere bad dibilutating migraines that have sent me to doctor's office and emergency room over the years and has gotten worse. And literally ALL DUE TO the monamers for acrylics. I have literally considered giving up my license and Job because of this. I would love to learn gel and gel-x.

We are sorry to hear that. We have great videos on hard gel and our full cover tips on our channel if you would like to learn. We also have come out with our extreme low odor system. There is a trial kit available if you want to try it out to see if it affects you the same way. If it doesn't you can still have acrylics as an option.

I love this topic.. I think acrylic vs gel it also depends on the tech or maybe what is in higher demand in your area. I love in NJ I see both popular, but for me I use gel I’m prone to migraines so unfortunately monomer give me migraines.

My situation is im going to YN in February for OWC and i love acrylic then this month my salon said we r going gel! Thats great so i bought precision gel and im making myself learn but i need to know acrylics i love acrylic. I have no problem learning gel and i never day i cant do something. I was all pumped for acrylic OWC now I guess after that ill be seeing u again for gel OWC. I dont want to be just ok i need to be that ninja!

Which one last longer? I thought you guys would have went more in depth to which one will be better on the nails concerning health. 2) Give more examples to why acrylic is better then gel is it just application? The pros and cons of both of these from if color last longer and if the wear last 3 weeks or more. Out of the two is there a difference if a nail breaks?

Both are great for certain situations. Both will last several weeks if applied properly. Both are perfectly healthy or the natural nails, all about education knowing which will perform best for each situation

I am not a nail technician nor am i trained I use polygel and i find these points true (with the types and learning curve) and very insightful Continue with the nail education guys its great for beginners

Self taught / currently studying online nail course. I have always hated acrylic and the smell i have played with gel and so far love it. Open to try acrylic one day but not now. I do press on nails though so no rush yet

Gel is my favourite part ... but I will be working on the polygel.. no smells and this same job😊

It might have been because I did not have a decent brush to start with, but I taught myself builder gel to begin with. I love the flow, and the pure elegance of the way it moves down the nail. The clarity, I have seen acrylics get clear, but the glass look you get with gel is unmatched. I would love to learn acrylics, but so happy to know gels! Hybrids, now that is an interesting beast. Just started messing with them, and that, is no easy feat at all!

Definitely working on saving up to buy everything I need from you! I bought the trial kit of synergy gel and am absolutely in love with it!

I love gel so much, you can do acrylic and gel. Gel to me is more flexible. I havent heard of those hard nail breaks like I have seen with acrylic.

I started with gel then eventually started acrylic, a lot of people do prefer acrylic over gel , I do agree as usual with Greg about gel, you can do sooooo much with it, I do think since I started with gel then acrylic I never had issues

Some gels have little to no heat spike. I use Ugly Duckling, my clients never feel discomfort and also their lamp has a low 120sec setting that reduces it even more. Also remember the thicker you apply the gel, the more heat spike you will have. When I'm doing a new set I build and flash cure in about 3 layers.

Common, just have to know how to work it, if you don't have our lamp with the gradual heat setting you can tame the heat spike by bouncing their hand in & out of the light a few times before going all the way in. This slows the curing process and prevents the heat spike sensation.

Use a lamp with a lower setting, and keep a spray bottle of alcohol handy to instantly cool the nails down when the client feels warmth.

baby boomers with hard gel are my own worst nightmare 😂 not sure if you’ve already done those, but a video of a full set with one hand acrylic and one hard gel with the same encapsulated design would be amazing to really see the difference in versatility and how you tweak the product to get the desired affect.. 💅🏼 let’s really put tracy to the test 😆

I use to only do only Acylic but had to switch to gel because I work out of a hair salon. The hair clients complained about the smell. But oddly enough they didnt complain about the perm solution 🤢. That was 20 years ago I'm I've been doing Gel since. I'd love to get back into Acrylic I bought your Speed Clear and Monomer been practicing but it's been difficult.

I'm not a licensed nail tech but I much prefer gel over acrylic. It's got a very small learning curve compared to acrylic and I can't stand the smell of monomer. I do think it's important to be able to do both and I'm working on mastering acrylic too! Like Greg said, however, it's not about what I prefer, it's about what's best for the client and their natural nails! I prefer to wear gel on my own nails because I find that they adhere and last longer for my nails personally

it's the one single reason I would switch to acrylic - love the smell!

I'm going to challenge Greg on the theory of gel not being good for nail biters or for clients whose nails grow in a bell shape (Narrow at cuticle widens out from free edge). Some gels come in different tensile strength, i.e have more flex in them and you can definitely pinch gel nails, i do it all the time with long tweezers (gives a soft even pinch). Also since gel in nonporous it has its benefits, some points you already touched on. If you know your lamp well & your line of gel, it doesn't take any more time than if you were to pinch acrylic. You can also use clear clips and keep them on the nail in the lamp if you don't want to use tweezers. Great topic guys! Love a good positive debate 🤗

Health wise with the smell of the monomer and the dust I learned with gel. I am self taught from the best on KZread like Young Naiks and Nail Career Education, The Nail Hub. I took my time so I wouldn't hurt myself or others. I love hard gel, plus I am loving gel x. Wondering what new techniques are coming in 2020.

I want to start doing my nails at home but I don’t know which one to choose, acrylic or gel?

how do you feel about acrygel? I've mastered both acrylic and hard gel, I use one or the other depending on the clients needs. I have not tested acrygel for it strength or adhesion. I mainly used it to hold my swaroffskis. It works to keep them in place for the two to three week time frame, however that's on top of acrylic or hard gel. So just curious how you feel about it?

The brothers in the chairs love this! Perfect episode as i had my client text me this morning lol. Been doing nails 27yrs never had this till now. What’s your input please … she’s a farmer so rough handed. i always used acrylic on her but breaks here and there. She now scrubs large amounts of eggs and her nails weren’t holding, i believe to be due to water so i used the precision gel tubes being gel is non porous, Worked for awhile but not holding. 🤷‍♀️ back to acrylic? Any tips or help lol. FYI She keeps them short.

funny that you say nailbiters = acryllic. I would agree but when I was training I started with gel, my very first training klient was a nailbiter. I hadnt a clue on how to go about it so I hit YT and all the tutorials were with acryllic. Now I didnt have that option cos I was training in gel. So what I did was I watched all the tutorials I could find, and planned out in my head how to adapt the techniques to gel. Turned out amazing, the klient was over the moon that she now had pretty nails (they werent long cos she was a hairdresser). Some time after I told her that she was my first training klient and my first nailbiter klient. She was shocked :D

And how to get it even on both sides. Or if you have any tips and tricks on setting time, pinching, and make sure its even and doesn't look like a V shape unless thats what your trying to achieve. I use your Synergy Gel as my base line. I have a mobile salon and use gel because I go into nursing homes and client's homes for services. Acrylic is not as n option due to ventilation issues.

im allergic to acrylic but I love how its so quick to set done and air dries. I only work with gel though because living in a condo I cant have complaints about the acrylic smell. Also, it depends on the clients nails ie. sleigh slop nails need acrylic that stays put, whereas thinner nails may be better off with gel as it is more flexible. I think some people shy away from gel because of price (more expensive?) and think that it takes longer and harder to work with. But I think with practise and once you have found the right gel consistency its great to work with gel there is so much you can do with it and as Tracey shows us in how much series a gel set takes pretty much the same amount of time as acrylic. Great talk love seeing both brothers side by side.

I’m on wheelchair and I’ve done gel as beginner and wasn’t strong enough for me. After 3 days, there was only 3 fingers left, so I skipped to acrylic system and it’s better for me, my nails are much stronger and durable!!

What about the glass fiber?

How about a video about dos and don’ts when working on nail biters 😂 I love acrylic because of the versatility and creativity but I am trying to venture out into gel

I’m a client and I always go for builder gel because my hands are always in water cleaning something...plus it last longer. BUT I’m finding that majority of nail salons stop offering builder gel. So at times it’s hard to get a fill or fix a broken nail. So in my situation, if I have to choose acrylic, can I get a gel overlay on top of that to prevent lifting?

Ventilation, opening windows, using a low odor monomer like ours, and honestly those large candles from bath and body really mask a lot of the smell those things are so strong lol

Firstly Orange is the bomb it's number 1 colour my favourite! .Secondly this was a great great subject to discuss, I. A m acrylic tech, went and did some training with gel, definitely harder to do, had peeling and lifting issues so need to work more on that. Me, I am a no belt to white belt in gel🤣🤣🥋. Got excited to hear you taught In Japan wow so want to hear your journey in this industry !!! Just wondering what your thoughts of poly gel a Are and would young nails be introducing a line?? Again thanks so much for such great information n, and a good dose of laughter! Just wondering with your acrylics would you say your products are more of a pat or wipe Technic ? No polygel in the plans for us, and as for acrylic it really depends on the ratio you are working with.

Sarah Diaz pinching makes the nails look slimmer and not too wide. And stronger too

The pinch with bitten nails is to get them to grow into the proper shape

Pinching is mainly training the nail to grow in a more attractive direction. Product helps it stay that way.

I have a question? would you say acrylic or gel is a stronger substance and a better option for people who are hard on their nails ?

Honestly it is really a case by case scenario. Someone who is hard on their nails with a lot of water exposure like bartenders hair dressers nurses they would do best with hard gel. Someone who's hard on their nails because they ride horses, garden, ranch work, warehouse work etc would do best with acrylic.

Can do both but acrylic is my fave 🥰

im not sure if i should continue with doing coloured acrylic services, or clear acrylic with gel polish on top... im finding my clients arent liking the process of a refill with coloured acrylic, but i already have so many coloured acrylic powders, and no gel polishes.. what do you think is best? id like to stick to an acrylic system as the base but dont know if should stop with coloured acrylic and replace it with gel polishes on top to make redesigns and refills easier,..

We love colored acrylics for designs but for full color we prefer gel polish because removal is super easy. However it's all preference.

Actually, my question is, and PLEASE address this, because I have been looking for the answer. I’ve actually started doing my own hard gel, and acrylic because everyone in my area makes my nails bleed. I do use all of your products. I’ve watched a million videos, but I still cannot find this specific answer. People with autoimmune diseases, like me, have naturally paper thin nails. What do you do for them? Is acrylic, or hard gel better? Because my nails are so thin, they cannot be filed like normal, healthy nails. That means there is more lifting. What is better for people with flimsy natural nails that cannot withstand any electric drill sanding? Is the movement of hard gel better, or the strength of acrylic? And how would you prevent lifting on these type of nails. Thank you!

With all the inventions. Is there anything that takes the odor for home base business???

I agree acrylic has a very strong smell that is hard to get around... but as far as a situation where the neighbors in the same building may get offended, I think you should invest in a very good ventilation system prior to opening a shop but most importantly, to me, going with acrylic vs gel on a customer depends on the customer and the climate they live in. That’s just my thoughts along with the state of the customers nails of course. They may have oily nail beds which cause all kinds of issues in itself. I have found that your Protein Bond does all kinds of good with that!

What am I doing wrong if my hard gel will not set? I put it on my manicuring hand and tried several 1 minutes cycles under 72w lamp. Do I need a stronger light?
