    My base coat is a drop of super glue (dollar tree) and smooth with Kiss brush on nail glue. I buy the activator from sally's and put in smaller bottle with brush. I do not use top coat. I use a good nail polish top coat or a gel top coat for shine. Have not had problems. Doing this for 3 years. Thank you for all of your great tips.-Joy

    I was a licensed nail tech for 16 years. I quit working professionally before dip nails really became a thing. So, I wasn’t trained in school, in recurrent training or on the job to know how to do dip nails. For some reason, I’ve suddenly developed an allergic reaction to methacrylate. 😳 IT’S SO WEIRD! I don’t understand HOW or WHY, after using acrylic monomer & powders for so many years, I would develop a skin allergy??? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Anyway, I’m here to learn how to do dip nails as an alternative to acrylic nails. So thank you for sharing your wealth of info with us!

    Hi Chelsea!! I love your videos!! I started in doing the nail art because of one of your videos! When I first started doing my nails, I did sculpt. I then did the gel method (I didn't know it was a thing but saw an acrylic hack) with clear acrylic and gel polish color over. Its so much more forgiving then the sculpt acrylic and getting the beads right, having the correct amount of monomer and grabbing the beads, etc. I have never used dip liquids because I was already doing the gel method and now I'm doing gel method colors. Prep is key no matter if you use acrylic sculpt or dip method and not all products are created equally for you! I have given away so many clear acrylic and primers because I have super sensitive skin. Clear acrylic is a must for encapsulating to protect the dip color and protecting your natural nail from staining. I do clear first and then after the color.

    @@SipAndDip I did sculpt for almost three years......I feel like I'm cheating with dip because they just come out so much better and so much less e-filing to smooth out the bulk....lol!!! Actually no bulk when I do dip! It used to take me twice as long with sculpt. I feel like the beginning I did better than later on, probably took my time more in the beginning. I can still do sculpt but gel method is by far better for me. Nail techs rock, the patience it takes for the process!!!

    I am now doing dip because I got an allergy from a salon. I no longer trust the, and decided to learn dip…so far so good…no issues with anything allergy and I find it very easy actually…I love the French manicure look..it is classic. I am quite proud of how my first attempt turned out and have taken your advice it turned out great. I am using low odor color me beautiful and I like it well enough. With the horrid allergies I developed to gel and acrylic I am afraid to branch out to regular brands…my luck I would get dip flu too. I am really liking the dip method. It is the only alternative I have now. Thanks.

    I just started doing my nails with dip powder. Thanks for the tips. The first thing I did was take one nail to used the clear, then took another nail and didn't use the clear. The clear powder helps the color come out and maintain its shininess. If you don't take the nail and dip it in clear, it will be very dull and does not matter how shiny your top coat is. Hope this helps

So maybe if you could share, if not full, at least a wide list of dip powder brands with your opinion on your favorites and the ones we should go on our way, that would be very useful (at least to me😅)! I double mask-the one time I didn’t mask, I must have gotten some dip powder up my nose-at least that’s what it felt like. Sneezed all day after that! I guess that was “my” dip flu. Anyway, I keep a few masks with my dip powder supplies so I’ll remember to mask up! I hope you can figure out what is bothering you and giving you dip flu. It’s no fun. I otherwise love Kiara Sky dip powder system. Beautiful colors, and a dip manicure is easy to remove and easy on my nails. I like gel nails too, but some gels seem hard on my nails when removed. I use an acetone steamer for removal.

    I just ordered my first set of dip powder products (not arrived yet). Chose dip powder cause I did not want to use gel cause of the UV light increasing risk of cancer (kind of a bit too much for me for making nails), but also the idea of breathing plastic is pretty creepy 😅 or even to release microplastics in the environment. Maybe I'll have to give up on the wish of having fancy nails and just stick to regular nail polish 😅

    Also i will say kiara sky brand you can use the base and top coats interchangeably. I checked the ingredient lists and theyre identical. I used to not use the top coat because i used gel polish so luckily now that my base is goopy i have the top coat to use in its place. Ive used the top as base several times now and it works every time. I cant speak for other brands but check the ingredient lists and if they match identically and are in the same order you may be able to interchange them.

    I have learned so much for your videos for dipped powder nails (I am a very low maintenance woman. I NEVER polished my nails unless it was a special occasion -- wedding, etc. I didn't understand the terms you were using at first, etc.) I did very well doing my nails for about 6 months. I got some ink from a gel pen on my nail. Before I could wipe it away, it went through the nail polish and stained my nail. The gel pen ink was black, but a part of my nail turned a green color. The next time I did my dipped powder nails, after I took the polish off I noticed a faint green spot on another finger's nail. Now I'm afraid that that could be a fungus. So I've stopped doing dipped nails, and went back to regular nail polish. But it always chips off after a few days. I love the way that dipped nails look. Is it possible to get a fungus in the nail powder? I have used the clear powder much more than the others. I'm wondering if there could be a fungus in the clear nail powder. Do you know if this is possible? I want to avoid finger nail fungi at all costs!!! Thank you for your help!

    Hi Carol! Thank you so much for your kind words and support 🫶🏻 it’s difficult to say exactly without seeing but it sounds like it could be a “greenie”. Greenies can happen when moisture gets trapped underneath the nail enhancement usually from lifting. I’m not a professional but I have seen other professionals say that it’s okay to dip over. But again, it’s hard to gauge without pictures or to know the severity of it. To prevent them, it’s really important for us to prep the natural nail so we don’t experience lifting. And if for some reason we do have lifting, then we want to soak off the enhancement. I hope this helps 💕

    I HAVE to thank you... for so much! My first time with dipping powder and I watched your prep video, how to, things I wish I knew and removal. And more! I had heard horror stories and I'm a 57 year old DIY nail "player" and I just knew I was in over my head! The entire process was smooth and uneventful and my (natural) nails were beautiful. But just less than 2 weeks and I felt the call... my nails were still beautiful but I NEEDED to create!! So after worrying and stressing, I got my cotton ball, acetone, a glass bowl, zip lock bag and hot water and coconut oil and prepared to spend all night removing my polish. The first hand took 6 minutes!!! Second hand took 5 minutes. I have pictures to share! That was with ONE cotton ball per hand (it would have taken me 20-30!) about 1/2 cup of acetone (I will use less next time) and a spoonful of coconut oil (and my nails are shiny and supple- no fear of cracking!)and clean! No scrubbing, no filing, no buffing. You are a life saver! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So many people were warning me so clearly they don't know your methods. And that's so sad!

    Love your extremely helpful channel. I've been dipping for about a year and want to venture into designs. I'm going to try doing some on a stick as suggested just to see if I can do them. What would you suggest as a first? I'd probably love to try an Ombre

  • @SipAndDip

    @SipAndDip

    Thank you so much for your support and kind words! 🫶🏻 for an ombré with dip liquids you’ve got a few options! You can do a tap ombré or scrub ombré. A scrub ombré would technically be the easier option because you’re just rubbing pigment onto the nail. So you want the base shade to be very light and the shade you scrub to be darker/more pigmented. Then there’s the tap ombré which is my personal fav! I would suggest medium to slow dry liquids for that so you’re not feeling rushed. If you have swatches, I would give it a whirl on those first. Not only to find your rhythm but also to see if the colors blend nicely together. I hope this helps! 💕

    I didnt know rhere was a name for dip flu. I learned i was having an allergic reaction every time i did my nails because it happened once a month the day after doing my nails. During the pandemic it scared me and i wasted a lot of money on tests before i figured it out. And ive been doing my own nails for 5 or so years. I even changed brands hoping it would help. It helped but i still get it every time. With kiss brand my sinuses literally was like a brick for a few days after a manicure like they sealed shut. With the kiara sky it doesnt get as bad but i still get it. I just did my nails the day before yesterday and im still having a runny nose, sneezing, and a sore throat. I dont have the money for an air filter but i do use 2 masks and turn the fan on when doing my nails. I try not to bring my face too close to my desk when doing my nails too.

    Hi something that I still have trouble understanding is when doing glitter dip powder (not chunky glitter ) just the regular glitter if were to use them in all my nails and I have square nails do I have to do the apex method with glitter or just dipped straight into the jar so many times

  • @SipAndDip

    @SipAndDip

    11 ай бұрын

    Personally, if you need an apex then I would suggest doing an apex of clear then do the glitter. You could stop the apex of clear just before you get to a full dip and have the 2 full dips be of glitter. It all depends on how many layers you need for strength 💕 glitter can be really bulky so the clear will be easier to manage underneath 🫶🏻

What nail salons did for me always worked so I stick to their process and I have not had any issues with lifting etc.The rest of my learning process is figuring out what liquids work the best or which Im comfortable with, design, application powders. Anyone wanting to start with gel method please read: Do not buy beetles or modelones. Beetles has HEMA as the first ingredient and multiple friends have a life long gel allergy because of this brand. Modelones is shady and they don’t have their medical safety data sheets available which is unlawful. If you want to start with gel method find a dip brand that has HEMA free gels. There are so many out there. Also: pre-cure the layer of gel for 3 seconds before going in with a dark dip color. The dark pigment of the gel inhibits the light from reaching the photo reactors in the gel. Stay safe and have fun my friends. Sincerely, your gel chemistry nerd!

    It’s totally optional as a base (in my opinion). Some reasons why you may do clear as a base could be to build up strength + apex. If you’re really hard on your nails, have flat nails, or notice cracking/chipping. I use clear ON the color/glitters though! It’s just an added layer of protection 🫶🏻 I hope that clarifies it! Nail stamping for nail art on your dipped nails, so easy, I know there are people who nail stamp on their dipped nails before applying a top coat but what I found works best for me is to apply the top coat and nail stamp right on top, the apply a top coat like Maniology smudge free top coat, then I put Sally Hansen Insta Dry top coat on. You can also do crystals with nail glue if you choose to or any other nail art item. Nail glue is awesome for enhancements. I would tell myself that dip powder nails don't have to be boring, lol.
