The crazy thing is my ball python is super active when he's out his cage. Constantly exploring and moving about. Not the quickest but definitely adventurous.

I have a corn snake and that dude is constantly moving when I get him out lol I wish he’d chill more sometimes tbh but he’s awesome and super friendly to me and the kids

Hahah I love how size is the only con for boas... because it's true! I love my BCI she's active, smart and a great eater 😍Completely opposite of my ball python lol, 75% of the time it looks like I'm keeping an enclosure as a pet 😂

I've stuck mostly to Boas and pythons Started with a couple of ball pythons, had a blood python for a bit, have a couple of Sumatran short tail pythons now I've had a few common imperators, a few dumerils boas, and A little Argentine boa Some great individual temperaments, some really poor ones lol. Some awesome species behavioral traits, some less desirable ones. A lot of healthy animals, a couple that just seemed prone to getting sick or even unexpectedly dying in one sad case I'm still nowhere near as experienced as somebody like yourself, but I have some years and some fair few individuals behind me now to know what direction I want to put my little collection in And overall even though for so long I used to say Dumerils Boas were my favorite snakes I think ultimately when it comes down to it the number one pet snake I recommend to anybody else never mind myself is your common boa imperator. There is just so much going on with different genetic combinations or even sublocalities But overall they're active snakes but not squirmy and hard to control, they tend to be incredibly docile and inquisitive, and they're super hardy and always ready to take a meal. I love my pair of pythons and I don't think I ever want to trade them or rehome them. But I think less and less about actually ever pairing them up and instead think about what I want to do with boas Can't help it, I like what I like Keep it up man

Rainbow Boa is next on my list to get. I already have a Blood Python & Jason is not lying about that humidity factor. They love to burrow in moist areas.

I have three ball pythons and I would like to one day move up to adding a boa to my family, but only when I'm fully prepared. I'm still a new snake keeper at this point and I understand boas are very different than what I am used to. I never wanted a corn because of concerns about them escaping! I saw a baby corn at a reptile expo that was thinner and shorter than any shoe lace I've ever seen and said "nope" 😂

Boas are the best. I feel like a badass that my first snake is a female Colombian. She’s about 4 feet now. Getting a female Argentine boa for my second snake she’s on hold till feb.

my ball python girl is active. Unless she is digesting a big meal she is climbing up a fake tree to reach an ambush position, cruising around, visiting her different hides, ambushing the spot where the terrarium opens😂 and so on. Fun to watch. BUT all this activity takes place between 1a.m. and 4a.m. She is strictly nocturnal and will not come out if there is light in the room.If she is out she graciously tolerates light though. I wonder how many ball python owners complaining about their "living stone" just miss everything because they go to sleep at 11 p.m.....

I had a ball python that died recently, had him since I was 17. He would barely move, I would take him out and even while carrying him in my hands, he was like a rock stiff. Cool pet but yes not for everybody. Then my corn snake I got as a 1 month old baby, she was like 4 inches long. Tiny little thing, I kept her inside a hamster cage with only way to keep her contain, I had trouble getting her to feed because even 1day old pinkies were a bit big. Eventually I started braining them and that got her to eat but it was very frustrating. It will just be boas for me, or burmese pythons, all bigger snakes that eat readily.

Yep. I had my baby corn for less than 2 months before losing her. She escaped. I'm still so upset about it and don't think I'll find her. She was super tiny. I'm considering getting another one, but I feel extremely guilty still for not having a secure enough enclosure for her. She was an Amel stripe het anery and just gorgeous. I was so excited and happy to have found her online and she was the first snake I bought online and had shipped to me. She was a great price too and really good quality.

I got a ball pyton as my first reptile a month ago, it's cute and pretty but definitely a boa constrictor for the more energetic & thrill seeking people!

I would only keep non-medically significant rear fanged venomous like garter snakes and Plains hognose snakes (my favorite snake ever is a Plains hognose).

I have to agree with you about ball pythons. They are pet rocks that sometimes goes on a fasts. Not worth it to me and I have kept them in the past. I adore boa constrictors and use to own some. I will get a Hog Island boa in the future. I have had corn snakes (a breeding pair) in the past. My female was super sweet, but my male snow corn snake was "evil". I also agree about kingsnakes. The species that I have been bitten by the most was king snakes, but I may give in and get a Mexican black kingsnake because they are so beautiful. Rainbow boas are not for me, husbandry is just too difficult for me. I lost a baby RB in the past and will never try again.

Corn, milk, king snake cons: Just buy a bullsnake. They are also escape artists and kinda small [as juvis] but they are loud as hell. :D

If you’re a beginner avoid active snakes they normally extremely aggressive so you better enjoy getting but every time you go to clean water and feed so yea there’s that. But there are a few exceptions I’ve seen my fair share of well tempered boas

No mention of carpet pythons - amazing snakes.

I have 11 snakes (8 balls, 1 BCI, 1 cali king, 1 pueblan milk) and believe it or not my milk snake IF HELD long enough, WILL, without fail (had him for 2 years) take a shot at you. Thumbs are tasty morsels to him haha.

What do you think about rosy boa or Kenyan sand boa for those who eanr a smaller snake ?

I think both of those are fantastic! A lot of people overlook them because they are not super simple to breed, but many people just want pets and have no desire to breed. They are super cool Snakes.

About the same as boas. They are pretty easy and super hardy. Biggest thing is getting from someone who has them as established feeders.

Mu 8 foot Boa imperator is already like 8 months off of food.......I used to have a young boa imperator and he would eat every week no problem

Sounds like there could be something off with the enclosure or something wrong with your boa. It is very unlike a boa to refuse food for 8 months.

Per a study, it seems to be true. I have had Cal kings, Childrens pythons and rosy boas think my wrist was food and bite and constrict. The Cal kings (and similar) definitely put in the most effort when it comes to constricting per pound of snake. Rosies are no slouches either but not near Cal kings. Rosies have a higher bite pressure though, which I would not have guessed looking at them.

I don't think that is a sunkissed cornsnake. it may have the head pattern, but masque gives the same head pattern. also masque gives that belly pattern. also it is more subtle but sunkissed has more rounded saddles than it seems your's has. Also sunkissed is a hypomelanistic type mutation, and that snakes looks about as dark as a normal. I could be wrong. I am not hte one holding the snake and can get a good look at it. I have to agree, cornsnakes hatchlings are super prone to escape, and that is one of the biggest downsides. man you had not shown the black milk snake in a long time on your channel. before I discovered that black rat snakes were a thing I was thinking about getting a black milk snake

@@JasonsExoticReptiles vin Russo does not pop up in on the cornsnake, or rat snake groups i am in, but alot of breeders dip into cornsnakes for scaleless. the one review I found on him says he was a good guy, so that is good. I don't like scalesless cornsnakes, but if I was going to buy a het scaleless I would ask for pictures of the parents to help prove it is het scaleless. scaleless is a het that drives up the price of cornsnakes, so someone can easily claim het scaleless just to drive up the price, and you won't know for 3 years

Keep a ball python correctly.,in a naturalistic large enclosure and they are not just going to sit there.all 5 of my royals are more active than my boas or carpets.all show many different behaviors too many to mention. Take them out of the drawers if you expect them to live and act as they should.

I don’t necessarily disagreed, but ball pythons are not active. If yours are active there could be something off with the cage conditions. Maybe you just have the exception to the rule, but by their makeup, ball pythons should not be active.

@@JasonsExoticReptiles I see where you are coming from brother,but I have worked with far too many for over 30 yrs..still have 3 over 25+ yrs old still producing and none had ever giving me any issues on any front. Started keeping them in large natural enclosures with several options for lighting,heating,humidity.burrowing and climbing..,they utilize it all..including sleeping in the limbs and branches. I am by no means trying to argue.,have been following you for a bit and have nothing but respect for you my friend..,but I know what I know. Much love brother .

@@todd1611 for sure and 100% didn’t take it that way. They are one of those animals that if kept correctly they don’t give any issues. But if incorrect or slightly off, they can be such a pain. For that reason, I consider them more of an advanced snake rather than the ideal beginner snake. That’s just my opinion. I think they are recommended way too much as first pets or beginner animals. They can be quite frustrating and more complicated if not kept properly
