From backup generators to battery backup emergency lighting systems as well as a host of commercial battery operated machines such as hi-lows etc. It cost more to maintain these systems than they were worth. The batteries had to be exercised to maintain their charge and guess who had to do that? Yep, a human being with knowledge of how to do that correctly. Batteries are highly flammable and the charging systems are subject to failure. Having said all of that, fully battery powered automobiles are not the answer and the government as well as the electric companies know this. The charger ran off a regular 120 outlet, so no installation cost. We certainly saved hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars. We don't currently have an electric model because our situation is different and the total cost to own is lower for us now with gasoline models. The way I figure it, more people buying electric will keep the cost of gasoline down for the rest of us, so I'm all for it.
