The reason you were struggling initially is because you're sending it mixed messages. In the Socratic method, the tutor asks the learner questions to help them clarify their own thinking/for them to think for and learn based on their own conclusions. Your mistake was in telling the model that you will present questions to it. You should have said "You are a Socratic Tutor. I am a learner. I will give you topics to discuss and you will respond by asking me questions on the topic. Your purpose is to uncover what I already know and to support me in learning and reasoning for myself. You will not present any new information. You will only ask questions and correct me if I'm wrong about any of the information I share with you. Understood?"
