Promising News for DIY Baby Oil Vellum! Quick how-to. Adventures in

So here's a revised method for do-it-yourself vellum! This is the first solution I've landed on for the oil-bleeding issue I alerted you about in this video: • Before We Go Wild Maki... And it seem very promising! Plus in this video you'll see you can almost skip the baby oil all together!
What I like so much about making vellum is that almost anything I can create/print can be made translucent. So, assuming you go with this updated process, you might still treat yourself to all the DIY Vellum ideas from the original video: • Promising News for DIY...

    I already have a pack of vellum paper to print on, and hardly use it. However, This process intrigued me nonetheless. I don't have any baby oil around, but I do have some organic castor oil. It looks like it did the same thing. It seems to be not as oily on the surface as it looks as your baby oil...of what I can see on video. Maybe it's due to baby oil being a petrochemical? However, I did not saturate it like you did. I used it sparingly and rubbed it in with a paper towel. It seemed to feel pretty dry. I am leaving it in between some papers and with weights on it to see what it looks like tomorrow. For me personally, I wouldn't mind if it does transfer, because I like grunge. lol Will let you know how it worked. I know others wouldn't like the paper staining.There is no way I am using any spray sealer because that stuff makes me sick and is very caustic...but that's me. :) Cheers!

    Yes! Thank you. Please let us know the long term results of the castor oil. The baby oil seemed dry the last time too but still left stains (weeks later) when put against other papers for an extended time with weight. Having a grunge flair is helpful in that situation! (That's my preferred vibe too usually) But it's best to know about the possibility ahead of time. And I hear you about the sealer. It's a pretty chemical mixture material...

    @@sparkbirdstudios Yep, it stained, not much, but it did. And for me it's no issue. It was fun giving it a try, I like experimenting too. :) In the long run I will just buy it already made. To pay $15ish for a pack of the cheap stuff is not that expensive. Considering I don't use it often. Cheers! :)

    Awesome! I saw your first video with the baby oil only and was so inspired I tried it on lots of things. My favorite was patterned tissue paper from dollar tree. Turned out gorgeous! I haven’t noticed any staining as of yet, but I’m definitely gonna try this new technique with the sealer spray. I noticed you had a bottle of Mod Podge have you experimented with using that as a sealer? Thanks for the video. Great info. Also following you on KoFi.

    Sorry to have missed your comment for tow weeks! I love that you tried it. In my experience Mod Podge tends to be a little tacky for this purpose, even after its dry. So it wouldn't be my first recommendation.

    What a great idea I really love this video! I'm curious if the ink would smear? Your didn't, I know you printed it. So if I stamped on maybe use archive ink hmm I'll need to experiment, so fun though ❤

    I've done stamping (and embossing!) with the sealer-only method shown here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6R5x9B8dNrOqLQ.html with great results using Versafine ink. The stamping parts not in there, it's going to be another video but I've not yet tried it with the baby oil, let us know if you plat around with it before any of us do!

    I forgot if you said this works with ink jet printing. Will the baby oil or the sealer make the ink jet printing smear? Or must it be laser printed? I love this idea because it’s easy and would be less expensive than buying vellum. Thanks for continuing this experiment! Hugs ❤️🤗

    Yes I was using inkjets. (it also works with laserprints) But you'll want to test with one of you own prints to be sure...💜

    Isn't easier to just buy vellum paper?

  • @sparkbirdstudios

    @sparkbirdstudios

    Absolutely. But if you don't have inkjet vellum (which until recently was VERY expensive per sheet, at least the good stuff) or don't like how it looks like the print sits on the surface of the paper, this is a quick solution for a one-off image. Most of us have copy paper and baby (or mineral) oil sitting in the bathroom or under the kitchen sink. Just another option.

    Right, not everyone could afford that, or if you're in a pinch and can't/don't want to wait for a delivery. (I for example live in a very rural area and I cannot get some things except for mail order. LOL....2024 and in Michigan, U.S.A. my city, county etc. still has no cabs or any kind of car services to this day, the only food/grocery delivery we have is Door Dash. Oh and the only busses we have are the small county ones you have to call each time you use it and they don't go out of our county. Yep! I live in 1952. 😂
