Project: Dream Garage Part 3 - Milwaukee 48-22-8546 Tool Chest

This week the guys finished the base setup of the garage. It was a little over schedule/budget, but I'm very happy with the results so far. In this video I start organizing the garage and improving the space.
I also get myself a new Milwaukee 46" Tool Chest 48-22-8546 with 18 drawers. This is the nicest tool chest I've ever owned. I love the way the drawers close smoothly.
Lowes also had some shop vacs for sale at a good price. They were selling 6.5hp 12gal vacuums for about $100. I picked one up for myself.

Hey, I purchased the tool box combo from Home Depot. I actually saw they were staging up a bunch of them for the holidays the other day on display. Your local store may have done so as well, not sure if it's regional. The part number was Milwaukee 48-22-8546. The top box and the bottom box can be bought separate as well. I would recommend they ship it to you, transporting in a pickup is a pain. They loaded it up with a forklift and taking it off with 3 people was pretty rough since my hoist was down at the time. Very heavy, but quality!

I bought one the other day in store, 7-22-18. They also list it on their website. I did pay $100 for the one in the store. Not sure if that was an error on their part or not and I wasn't about to ask!

Nice setup. Where I live the temperature swings pretty wide over the seasons so I went with an insulated garage door to replace an old wood one and it's made a huge difference, but there are do it yourself kits you can get.

You might want to consider moving your thermostat. The heat given off by the TV will give it incorrect readings.

Good call, but the one box is just the AC remote and the other is just a thermometer (which is probably thrown off from the tv). Thermostat isn’t by the tv.

Just got my new milwaukee tool chest today, after going to home depot because they had told me they had one but when I went none of the employees had a clue what or where the tool box was and every other store was out of stock so I went today and there was an employee in hardware he looked it up in his little handheld device and told me there was one and pointed it out to me and I came out paying $770 with a 10%coupon, I had the old one but I like it this one better.

Hello sir. How many light fixtures did you get and what is the size of your garage? Also, are they all 2-light fixtures or are some of the fixtures 4-light?

  • @DmitrysGarage

    @DmitrysGarage

    4 жыл бұрын

Michael, it's about 1,400 sqft or so and I got 12x 2-light fixtures (in the front) and 4x 4-light fixtures (in the back area). I ordered a spare of each and bulbs just in case. LSS2XT8USE4803 These are the fixtures I used for 2-light setup, got them from shine retrofits. The actual bulbs where T8 LED ballast-bypass 22W 2,640 lumen 4000K tube style lights. How big are your fans amperage wise? I have some large fans in mine and have them attached to a motor control which looks and acts like a regular dimmer, so your fans don't have to be on high all the time. Let me know and I can get you a part number for what you need.

Interesting, thanks for the suggestion. I've got a cold today, but I'll look tomorrow and see what the draws are, I know it's not a whole lot, they're sitting on a 15A circuit. Is this like a per-fan controller or just for the whole circuit?

Hows the new tool chest? Those husky shelves are nice and all but the ones from costco (whalen industrial) are sturdier and cheaper.

It's really nice. I love the soft close and this Milwaukee is very tough and heavy. I also have Sabre cabinets coming, and those are going to be super nice too. I think the Milwaukee is a lot nicer than Husky. I know they're putting em out for Black Friday, at least out here. I'd go see if your Home Depot has em, see how they compare to the Costco ones.

Google "who makes Husky" and answer comes back that it used to be a tool manufacturer but now pretty much a just a brand, exclusive to HD, and different items are made by different manufacturers i.e. Stanley Black & Decker, Western Forge, Apex Tool Group, and Iron Bridge Tools.

What in particular didn't you like? Definitely open to suggestions. My logic is that tools I only plan to use a couple of times I usually buy at harbor freight cheap. If I break em I replace em with a nice version knowing that I actually need and use the tool. Of course I don't buy power tools, tools that can be dangerous, or tools that need to be precise like a torque wrench from HF. Regular ratcheting wrenches and sockets are fine from northern tools or harbor freight. I haven't been able to see a difference between a fancy wrench set and a $30 one from HF. I beat the crap out of the $30 HF ratcheting wrenches and I don't think I've broken one yet.

Dmitry's Garage you won't think there's a difference in drive tools such as sockets wrenches screwdrivers and ratchets until you actually do buy and use nice ones like mac snap on matco ect even kline screw drivers you will then see they are worth the investment

brandon shreve i own some snap on tools like the screwdrivers and ratchets good tools but i also have pittsburgh sockets, wrenches and ratchets they work just like snap on but cost way less, and guess what ? i also own all three SK 40 plus sets 1/2,3/8,1/4 in blow molded case they are stronger than snap on,matco and whatever other brand you want to name.
