Professor Noam Chomsky & Filmmakers - Q&A for "Requiem for the American Dream" (4-22-16)

Held at The Little Theatre in Rochester, New York
Friday, April 22, 2016
Filmmakers:
Kelly Nyks

Peter Hutchison
More: REQUIEM FOR THE AMERICAN DREAM is the definitive discourse with Noam Chomsky, widely regarded as the most important intellectual alive, on the defining characteristic of our time - the deliberate concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a select few.
Through interviews filmed over four years, Chomsky unpacks the principles that have brought us to the crossroads of historically unprecedented inequality - tracing a half-century of policies designed to favor the most wealthy at the expense of the majority - while also looking back on his own life of activism and political participation.
Profoundly personal and thought provoking, Chomsky provides penetrating insight into what may well be the lasting legacy of our time - the death of the middle class, and swan song of functioning democracy. A potent reminder that power ultimately rests in the hands of the governed, REQUIEM is required viewing for all who maintain hope in a shared stake in the future.

The problem is that not enough people have LISTENED to Chomsky for the last 65 years! And in particular not enough US Americans. If they had the US would not have been the moronic state it is today!

Mr. Chomsky bases so much of his arguments on Madison statement on the Senate which he is misrepresenting the conceptual understanding of what Mr. Madison was saying and whom he was saying it too. He was in the assembly talking to State or at that time colony leaders. It was the discussion of the Senate, and he was discussing the balance of power. He made reference to an incident in which people were given equal vote and they voted to take all the land from landholders. This occurred in England. This was one of the possibilities Colony leaders most feared. We were trying to put together a nation and ensuring that the Government would address the pitfalls of History. Mr Chomsky portrays it as men in power finally telling what we all knew to be the case power in the hands of the wealthy. He also uses the comparison of Socrates and Jefferson. Greece full Democracy only lasted for a short period 185 years and in that time where removed from power and got power back so that it is not a continual ruling. It also did not include all people only the citizens. The US is now way past this. Jefferson was right. Like JFK said of Nobel Laureate dinner "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone." Chomsky other herring in twisted truth comes from Adam Smith quote however this is taken out of context in the over all theme of the chapter. The Chapter Book III, Chapter III "Of the Rise and Progress of Cities and Towns, after the Fall of the Roman Empire" Here in lies the quote. The Chapter mainly deals wih the progess of cities and town and where progress was made. In it he talks of trade and merchants enabling Barons or any land owner for that matter to trade his surplus which he would have otherwise given to the surrounding families whom he bought support in times of need such as John Cameron of Lochiel whom had small wealth but could be bring an army of 745 men to bear in the cause of Stewart. Again the quote is out of context only the master of mankind (no Capital not identifying a select group) which factually I thinks was said of more jest as there were communist and anarchists of maybe another name in that time also. Adam Smith in closing the Chapter says the following. "In commercial countries, therefore, riches, in spite of the most violent regulations of law to prevent their dissipation, very seldom remain long in the same family.Among simple nations, on the contrary, they frequently do without any regulations of law, for among nations of shepherds, such as the Tartars and Arabs, the consumable nature of their property necessarily renders all such regulations impossible." Chomsky is a anarcho-syndicalist who believes that somehow with a collective will, devoid of all the “dark” personality traits that has plague man for thousand of years, form a large commune of utopia. Examples of Spain and the total blood bath that was or other more small failure of civilization all but dismissed. What has been done to change the soul of man. What civilizing principle has held man in check to form what we have today.. In the end all governments, communes, countries families or kibbutzim are formed by the building block of the individual. The Individual whom bears the death of Able, whom in any minute just shy of barbarism and whether in Fancy hats or Cadillacs is one degree from Hammurabi Code.
