Requiem for the American Dream with Noam Chomsky DOCUMENTARY - Politics, Philosophy

Ойын-сауық

REQUIEM FOR THE AMERICAN DREAM is the definitive discourse with Noam Chomsky, widely regarded as the most important intellectual alive, on the defining characteristic of our time - the deliberate concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a select few. Through interviews filmed over four years, Chomsky unpacks the principles that have brought us to the crossroads of historically unprecedented inequality - tracing a half-century of policies designed to favour the most wealthy at the expense of the majority - while also looking back on his own life of activism and political participation. Profoundly personal and thought-provoking, Chomsky provides penetrating insight into what may well be the lasting legacy of our time - the death of the middle class and swan song of functioning democracy. A potent reminder that power ultimately rests in the hands of the governed, REQUIEM is required viewing for all who maintain hope in a shared stake in the future.

Something which people like Joseph Goebbels understood implicitly. Fabricate two enemies. An external enemy (it could be Russia, China, terrorism, communism, migration, drugs, etc), and an internal one (the press, other political parties, etc). Anything to keep the population busy with such threats, real or otherwise, so that they do not place a priority in trying to change who and what is controlling their lives to their detriment.

It's always been easier to go with 100 that want to go, than 1 that doesn't. And you can lead a horse to water... It used to frustrate me with the people I know, I want to help them, or at least share relevant info, and most could care less. It used to really frustrate me, but then it occurred to me, that's just the way people are. The whole country and world will go down the drain before they admit that they need to wake up and pay attention, and probably do something.

LOL A, ' crash course ', in Economics from a Linguistics Professor who has never held a job outside academia? Yeah anyone who actually believes that Chomsky knows what he is talking about here, will certainly, ' crash ', into reality later on! :-D @melvinboekholt1540 , Glad to explain for everyone’s benefit: I never denied that Chomsky’s recitations of data were accurate by themselves. But-Chomsky’s ability to do so does NOT make him qualified to properly understand or judge these fields he is talking about (Outside Linguistics). So If Chomsky accurately recites last Season’s pro football stats, then does that make Chomsky qualified to judge the performance of the players & coaches on the field, or be an NFL coach himself? See how ridiculous that reasoning is?? And btw, Chomsky conveniently omits that fact that, ‘ current day reality ‘, somehow enabled he himself to garner a multi-million dollar fortune himself: www.wealthypersons.com/noam-chomsky-net-worth-2020-2021/ So now hopefully this makes the truth clear of how ridiculous it is to believe that Chomsky genuinely understands a topic simply because he has the ability to recite, and, ‘ ‘ analyze ‘, accurate data about it! -You’re Welcome! 🙂

@@dvlefttrite generalization. Chomsky is way behind in technology. He still thinks people don't read books despite the introduction of e-readers decades ago. And apparently smartphones are just 'toys'. Shall we ask people from developing countries about that, because they're revolutionizing their economies. You can do *so much* with a smartphone now. Chomsky's conception of advertising is also shockingly naive. Apparently there were no adverts at ball games when he was a child. Can we just check that real quick? That's the most easily demonstrable of Chomsky's many false generalizations, but somehow I doubt it will be. I venture my memory of advertising is more reliable, and it always followed public tastes, not the other way around. When this grand scheme was supposed to have hatched (in the 1950s), appliances were essentially industrial-grade, and were expected to last decades. Commercials actually made a virtue of how economical consumables were. The only reason things became more disposable since was to reduce prices, and again, that's on the consumer, looking to the bottom line.

Our very first day of school, was our very first day of institutionalization, indoctrination, and ideologies today. Because our minds are innocent and shapable at that age. John D. Rockefeller designed the American Education System. He stated: I don't want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers.” Even more compelling are the words of Frederick T Gates, business advisor to Rockefeller: “We shall not try to make these people or any of their children into philosophers or men of learning or of science." Makes me mad that we are falling for all of their BULLSH*T.

I thought that the first bailout happened in 2009, Allan Greenspan was an economic genius, American Democracy was created by the people. I didn't know that it was run by corporations. Now, I think of our government as an extension of the movie The Godfather. Corporations are the godfathers, politicians are the bosses' informants, and soldiers are hitmen. Some soldiers learned these hard facts, (because they believed that they were the "freedom fighters," only to learn that they were lied to). Nothing worse than to be lied to.

The wage system is the way wealth is transferred from the bottom 90% to the upper 10%. Of course, there are gradations within the upper 10%. Noam kind of promotes the notion that once upon a time the bottom 90%, the working class, lived in a democracy. But the working class has never ruled the State. They rule no States. Noam is pretty much right about most things he speaks about. As he points out, the bourgeois owners of most of the wealth rule. They are the ruling class. The class struggle is over the wealth the bottom 90% produces. The upper 10% want to conserve the 89% of the stocks, bonds, real estate and natural resources that they own and so they use their wealth to buy the political power necessary to keep the working class from gaining any more wealth than they've already gotten. Political power grows out the barrel of wealth you own/control. We should socially own and democratically manage the wealth we produce and that which lies in natural resources so that we can have the power to distribute it on the basis of need and live in harmony with the Earth.
