Steven, your memory is correct! It applies to a different stunt, though - the rocket that takes flight and lands Fate and Max in the mud! "Well there's another one Leslie can try out for size!"

I like to see the Great Leslie try that one!!
My father was the carnival barker in this scene. Got $100/day for two days of work. Unfortunately no residuals.
I remember seeing this while it was in the theaters.
Wow, for the first time in my life I laughed at slapstick.
😳...reminded me of a 'Super-Dave Osborne' stunt from Jon Byner Show...😆
I wonder how many others, like me, were rooting for Professor Fate.

This is a gem! And I'd wager a guess that the only couple of people who could possibly have voted thumbs-down on this priceless classic clip are people who are too afraid/ashamed to admit that they've ATTEMPTED this stunt after having seen it...(and their result was the same: just like the idiots who had posted a KZread clip of themselves years ago attempting a piledriver off their roof!) LOL!

@ Dallas K---I think we could both be right. I can check with the Glenn Curtis Museum in Hammondsport NY [about 50 miles from me] and ask if the 1912 Model D was nicknamed "June Bug" or not. This clip from the movie looks just like the Finger Lakes where Curtiss was located. This is a great movie. Thanks for your reply.
That plane, ironically, was an early model Curtis....

Minor continuity error at and just before 1:00, watch Fate's pose.
I think Professor Fate is in the White House.
classic
i wonder if the throttle was all the way open or not
I have yet to find this "waltz version" of Professor Fates’s theme outside of the movie itself. "Push the button Max" with the saxophone yes but not this particular orchestration.
Attach the hooks...
Ha ha! Great!
Ironic enough the movie came out the same year as those magnificent men in there flying machines And in that movie they crash there planes a lot. But in here max can fly without any problems.
What you think you're doing? I'm an official entry Official entry?
I wish I knew what the music is called that plays in the background.

It's the Professor Fate theme, played as a waltz. 🎶
I really enjoyed this movie whenI saw it at the theater when I was young. Hard to believe that was almost sixty years ago! But I found Tony Curtis irritating . Still do.
This had to have been filmed at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome in upstate New York.

Because Dan Taylor has a replica one there now? This was filmed years earlier, in 1964, at Mereworth farm near Lexington in Kentucky.
The stunt was perhaps inspired by the Fulton surface-to-air recovery system, used by the CIA.
