This movie was one of my dad's favorites. When we saw it in October, 1965, he had some idea what it was about, but no detailed info on the plot or scenes. I still remember hearing him laugh as hard as anyone in the theater. And the little Edward's touches, the hero with the twinkling eyes and teeth, didn't go unnoticed. A shame the movie didn't do better than it did at the box office or with critics.

This entire scene is like something from a Spy versus Spy cartoon. A lot of imagination coupled with the odd-ball gadgets that were passed off as "inventions" around the late 1800s/early 1900s. I'd say that Blake Edwards watched silent film footage of weird flying machines and other goofy inventions circa the early 1900s.

Maybe the most funny scene of the movie, and the most brilliant attempt to sabotage Leslie. Fun fact: they don't release the torpedo from its wagon. That's the only reason why the torpedo can also drive on land and destroy their car. Watching the torpedo following them through the woods and then, when it's out of sight, the detonation, is priceless.
