Professional Fossil Hunter’s Luck! With An Extra Hard Rock 🪨!🤔
Ойын-сауық
Welcome to our fossil hunting video. We are heading along the Jurassic Coast fossil collecting. We will start walking to the East of Lyme Regis. It looks like a calm and dry fossil hunting week, along the Jurassic coast. I meet up with Mike Harrison on the beach. He has some fantastic ammonite finds. We all have some good fossil collecting luck and some bad luck. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right rocks. I don’t usually hammer very hard rocks as it is dangerous and shatters like glass, with sharp splinters. I saw some nice ammonites sticking out of the rock that’s why I tapped carefully at the rock and so did Mike. I will show you one of the best layered rocks to tap at during the end of the video. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs, the best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide by the sea's actions. There are slippery ledges and seaweed to look out for at low tide. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made with our online fossil walks ---------------www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassic Coast . See Mike Harrison on Instagram - he is @ mikeharrisonfossils.#fossilhunter#ammonite#fossilhunting

Thanks 🙏 very much for your comments. There are very specific rocks to seek usually along the Jurassic Coast- at low tide. They wash out of the mudslides in the Winter time and onto the beaches 🙌.
That's me and my family in the background at 5:59, I thought I saw you but wasn't sure! I was the boy with the cowboy hat on..!!

I just looked and you were quite a bit further up the coast then in that clip. I hope you made some finds. Where we stopped and sieved turned out pretty good yesterday. It was quite a slow start but we got quite a few bits of Crinoid stem and iron pyrite ammonites! 🙌 . Thanks for your comments.
Great video with some useful safety tips at the end.

Thanks 🙏 very much Mike! I saw a lot less people near the dangerous cliffs I hope that carry’s on at Lyme Regis. At Church cliffs people were staying away from those sheer and dangerous cliffs that are liable to fall suddenly and without warning ⚠️
Now I know what those little mushroom looking things are, didn't know that before. I enjoy the scenery of the Lyme Regis beach, spend quite a lot. of time there last week. Cheers Mike and good hunting!

Impossible to prep but if you're lucky the arnioceras block will split to reveal a beautiful ammonite.

That’s spot on Mike a very informative comment
Just stumbled upon your channel and I must say I'm very jealous lol. I've found a few clam/scallop fossils on a beach near me, simply by accident. Any tips to help me spot more? I'm in eastern Canada

Thanks 🙏 for the comments, it sounds like you’ve found some nice fossils. The kids here when they go fossil collecting find more. They are closer to the ground and have better eyesight, plus bags of enthusiasm. So sometimes I find myself on my hands and knees searching for fossils! It’s not great for your back so I then I find myself doing stretching exercises. I’ve got one video on my KZread channel called , “ 10 Fossil Hunting Mistakes.” You can see the link here - kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKeZyrCclqayXbQ.html
