Professional Fossil Hunter Finds💔Heartbreaker!

Ойын-сауық

Professional fossil hunter Mike Harrison, is fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast! He finds one ammonite that literally breaks in half 😢💔! See Mike and I along Lyme Regis beach, as we film 🎥 this fossil video ! Mike has some fossil finds of absolute perfection on his Instagram site ! ( @ mikeharrisonfossils) He has some magical and marvellous fossil finds in Museums! Let’s go fossil collecting along the Jurassic Coast. I’ve got the sieving utensils for fossils and we can see what is washed out at low tide! I hope you find some fossils along the Jurassic Coast-at low tide. Sometimes fossil hunting turns out to be treasure hunting, especially when you are trying a bit of sieving. The Jurassic Coast really does have some stunning fossils. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs. The best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made, with our online fossil walks ------www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassiccoast!

we loved seeing Mike back on the beach with yourself👍...even one of your "cost of living sandwiches" would have been better than him eating that rock though😳😧😂....we are down with flowers🌷🌷 for Mary on 1st November, high tide is by my calculations 8:19am...so what time would you suggest we could get onto the beach safely from the steps at Lyme🤷‍♂🤷

So true! I think on the 1st November 2023 you’d have 12 midday 🕛 onwards to head out fossil collecting on, until 3p.m ! It’s a good sized tide there on the 1st November ! You can go fossil collecting as a general rule of thumb, an hour before low tide and an hour afterwards here at Lyme Regis. Then again if a big mudslide cuts off the beach you’ve got no chance - as has happened. I’ve just been looking at the sign 🪧 posting for the statue, along with the council at Lyme Regis!

Any tips on keeping pyrite ammonites from oxidizing? I've heard soaking in vinegar works.

I’ve got a video called “ Fossil Ammonite Preparation.” That video I made on KZread and some others like this, show you what I do to prepare my iron pyrite ammonites. It’s the way I have always processed my fossil finds. But of course some ammonites I have found have gone and “decayed” anyway especially the Echioceras sp. Species of ammonite!
