Four years later, I think it’s still the best bucket on the market.

I bought mine five months ago and have used it for a number of 5-gallon batches. But if I had it to do over I probably would not have bought the Flex. While it is very well made the issue for me is the lack of a bottom drain. I didn't think too much about it when making the purchase. However, a bottom drain makes clean-up a snap and I won't buy another fermenter without one.

I just ordered one of these and had been using a $25 bucket and lid and I couldn’t be more excited with the quality and versatility this upgrade will provide

Diana G Nice! It’ll make fermentation and transfers so much easier and cleaner. Definitely a good choice to invest in

Love the review. I am also going to purchase one of these. I’m curious how you transfer out of the airlock using slight pressure? How exactly do you do that? Where do you hook your CO2 to?

Kevin Rich You hook a co2 line to the airlock with 1-2 lbs of pressure and transfer out of the bottom valve. It’ll feed co2 into the open space of the fermenter to keep oxygen out and help push the beer into your keg

Love your videos you've done. I've seen your FB page, but are you active anywhere else? I'd love to keep up with what you are doing. I'm planning on adding a CF10 and Glycol Chiller soon for better batches.

Congrats on all the medals you talked about. I'm fairly new to home brewing and don't plan on entering any competitions, but just knowing I was brewing gold-medal beer would be a huge boost to my enjoyment of what I'm doing. Way to go, man! Do you brew all-grain, BIAB, extract, or what? Just curious. I've read that extract brewing done well can compete with and defeat all-grain. I've been using a lower-priced stainless fermenter (Anvil) that doesn't have nearly the features of this one, and I've been cobbling together pieces and parts for oxygen-free transfer, trusting a rubber stopper to not pop out of the lid under pressure, dry hopping through a little hole (I like my IPAs), weldless fittings and o-rings not leaking mid-batch, etc. Change this, overthink that, read forum ideas, redo, blah, blah, blah. I came across the Spike products by accident this morning and I've been reading and researching them all day. About an hour ago I couldn't stand it anymore and I ordered the Flex+ Fermenter with a few accessories that will eliminate all the problems I listed above, and more. Now I will have a setup that is rock-solid and will last the rest of my life, without having to cobble fittings, clamp, re-clamp, worry about rubber stoppers, o-rings leaking, etc. The awesome construction of the Flex+, beautiful smooth (easy cleaning) finish, tri-clamp fittings, perfect sanitary welds, 15 psi pressure capability, four-inch opening in the lid, ready-made accessories, and the fact that they're made about five hours from where I live, all worked to sell me on the purchase. It wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. I plan on having a brew day about once a month until I'm too old to stand up, so that means my Flex+ will spend a lot of time with wort becoming beer inside of it. Can't wait until I receive it.

Brian Thanks!! Always learning and room to improve, that’s what makes it so fun. I brew all grain, but I can agree that extract is definitely not a lower quality. My thought is good fermentation can do wonders, so upgrading your fermenter is a smart way to go over anything else. Congrats on the purchase, I think you’ll be very happy with it 👍🏻

I'm really curious if this would fit inside a chest freezer. I have a 7.4 cubic foot freezer that I have been using for my fermentation chamber. I can currently get 5 gallon and 6.5 gallon carboys in it. But something like 2 of these to fit in one would be awesome.

Eric Horn I use it inside my 7cuft chest freezer and it fits great. The dimensions of just the bucket are about 14” in diameter and 19.5” tall, but you’ll have to add some space for your valves on the side

@@brickandironbeerworks3567 Awesome thanks for the info! Would be very curious if you can fit 2 in the chest freezer. I'm at the crossroads of either getting 2 of these, or 1 unitank for 10 gallon batches.

Eric Horn No problem! 2 wouldn’t fit in mine, but you have a little extra room so it might be possible!

How do you pressure transfer from the Flex. I know the flex+ has the option but not sure about the Flex

  • @brickandironbeerworks3567

You can add a CO2 line to the end of your blowoff tube and trickle in 1-2 lbs of pressure. That’s all it takes to push and transfer

I am happy with my $37 fermenter. However, if I was going to have a show homebrewery I would spend the money on this equipment.

Looks like an over engineered and over priced version of the SS Brewtech brew bucket.

Bryan Sager I have an Ss also. Makes great beer, but I hate risking contamination with a non sanitary valve and having to take the entire lid off to add yeast, Dry Hop, etc. Spike took care of those issues. I wouldn’t call $30 more an overpriced version.
