So the Byrna SD fires at 204 mph and the Byrna LE fires at 231 mph that's a nice little upgrade in speed.

It would be great for the next next version to use the shaped ammo for a kinetic only version with even higher FPS.

IMO, the Byrna is great option if and I say IF you live in a deep blue state such as California, New York, Connecticut or even New Jersey with very tough and restrictive gun laws. A Byrna would be a great option for self defense in Blue States. Just think, do you have Kyle Rittenhouse’s lawyers on speed dial that can get you out of a self defense shooting incident? Not many of us do and a Byrna would get us out of having to deal with a prosecutor, jury, judge and courtroom. Now, if you live in a red state where gun rights and self defense laws are protected, then a Byrna would be optional. I also think Byrna would be great in corrections and county jails. I can see private security guards being able to carry a byrna while on the job. Even in bail enforcement, less than lethal is a great option because you don’t get paid if you bring a dead body to court. Just look at Dog the Bounty Hunter and his family for example.

I personally think that if you have to use the Byrna on someone then the situation already dictates you are at risk of serious bodily harm or death. I have concerns about this stopping the threat and not just pissing your attacker off more. Regardless of what state you live in, you can’t deploy this option without consequence. If I am put in the situation where I need this, then I am not only ok with using my 9mm carry pistol, I believe my chance of survival depends on it. I think the marketing for this minimizes the responsibility you have for its use as if there is no risk of legal liability involved or that this is somehow as effective as a firearm without any of the downsides of criminal prosecution.

It is an SD, but it takes the 12 gram CO2 and fires at 340fps instead of the 300fps the SD and SDXL fire. It also hit at 16.1 joules as opposed to the 11 Joules of the other models.

@Byrna we all would like to be able to get a sub-compact “pocket sd style launcher” that has trigger pull ease much like the TCR. Please…..And maybe have another option for the launchers , maybe a .68 cal 3 gram rubber impact round would be beneficial for those in California and also another option for self defense to us all

Can’t wait to buy it. Just need it to be legal where I live.

​@BrowncoatGofAZ I live in southern california, I just ordered a Byrna LE and during checkout I saw a disclaimer that says the pepper balls are not able to be shipped to CA or NY. So as far as the the gun itself. It is legal in CA but pepperballs are illegal. Your suspicions are correct

Do you know when this will be released? I placed a large order for the Byrna LE at the beginning of February and it still shows "unfulfilled."

Returns of shipped products are accepted if Byrna is notified within fourteen (14) days of receipt of the product. From my experience, a Company like Byrna strives to keep its customers happy. After all, most all companies know that negative posts on KZread can damage a Company's reputation ten fold. In contrast, posts about a company's gestures of good will are more valuable than thousands of dollars of advertising. To be sure, if you contacted me, and assuming I worked at Byrna (I don't), on proof of purchase and that the SD is like new and undamaged, not even a fingerprint, I'd give you a full CREDIT, but only that can be applied toward the purchase of an LE. Call the Company immediately, if not sooner. And be nice about it.

Does the front come off? It looks like the xl adapter. I'd love to use this launcher but with the 8g CO2 (small package to conceal)

Glad to see we’ve upped FPS to plus 350, so that should be a guaranteed 300 ( based on previous claims (300 fps) and actual (- 300fps). Is there any improvement on the ball retainer issue on the magazine? Would be nice to have this in standard size. ✌️

I haven't had any issues with mine shooting at 300 fps easily. After 10 or so shots it starts to slowly drop, but if I haven't stopped the attacker in 10 shots, I've got bigger problems.

If you just ordered it, you can probably stop the shipment if it hasn't been sent yet. Call customer service and ask them if you can return it and get the LE if it has shipped. Unfortunately I just bought two SDs in November so I'm outside any chance of returning mine.

Different internal equipment. The SDXL uses the same 12 gram but fires the same as the SD. The only difference is that the 12 gram gives the SDXL more shots than the SD.

It is in the California compliant version unless you've passed the BSIS Chemical Agent Certification exam, then you'll be allowed to buy the Pepperball rounds separately. It ships later this month to early March time frame.

It depends on where you live. The black one is good,but it looks like a real gun which could get you shot before they know it's not a real gun in some states. The orange gun will at least in theory give the police or armed security guards pause because that is a standard color indicating it is a less than lethal weapon. But criminals are on to that so they paint their guns orange or yellow to disguise them.

The LE fires faster and hits harder, 11 Joules vs 16.1 Joules. The SDXL fires about 310ish fps while the LE fires at 340fps.

Lots of test videos from independent KZreadrs on the different pellets. Apparently their pepper rounds are very effective.

Why 68 caliber? With the increased velocity, I think they can use a 50 cal or even 45. One can only dream of a 1911 frame... 🤤

Do Byrnas cock back like say a 9mm handgun would? You know, when you pull that top half of the gun barrel back? Do any of the Byrna guns do that and make that distinct sound? I ask because I was recently threatened with use of a Byrna but my back was to it and could not see it, but I heard that distinct cocking back sound and I just want to know if I was actually threatened with a byrna or if it was in fact a real gun.

Our pistol launchers don’t have slides, so there is no slide movement or “racking” of any of our pistol launchers.
