the mv is based on his actual experience, before debuting he had a job delivering food and one day while he was on his bike a car hit him, injuring his shoulder and he didn't tell anyone because he was worried that they would think he'd be unfit to debut. he got surgery for his shoulder back in 2020 (that's why he was absent during the end of the year award shows). the song is about the amygdala which is the part of the brain where trauma is stored and yoongi is begging for it to save him and be free of his trauma. so i've interpreted the grey room as yoongi's amygdala (hence why he is trying to escape) and the scarred yoongi is the one that has formed from his trauma and pain and in the previous music videos yoongi has been trying to kill this part of himself.

I agree with you completely but what I believe happened at the end of the video is Suga suddenly jumps up in sheer panic to "save" his darker, hurt side because without the pain in his past he wouldn't be the man he is today. 💔💜💜💜

Yoongi’s interpretation of the amygdala is that it stores our trauma and trauma response. He’s basically asking his brain to let go of his trauma so he can be free from it. My take on the trilogy is that in Daechwita he took out the king of the east, in Haegum he took out the king of the west, and in Amygdala he tried to take out his own trauma. Yoongi said he wanted D-Day to be the album where Suga and Agust D merge. In Daechwita, both the king and the pauper had the scar, so they were both Agust D. In Haegum only the detective had the scar (which wasn’t as visible, it had either healed more or it masked better). Here he’s showing us the scar as raw as it can be, and again, the one in his head is the scarred one, but the one outside isn’t scarred. Yoongi has said that he created Agust D to say things raw, things he thought an idol like Suga shouldn’t or couldn’t say. He’s slowly worked through his pain and trauma through his music to the point where he can let go of Agust D. He said he’d like to release solo work as Suga now.

Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 9:27. This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychologic condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list.

amygdala is part of the brain that stores your traumatic experience. the mv showcases the way you are reliving over and over again things that happened to you no matter how long ago it was. yoongi is truly the strongest person I "know" and the bravest for opening up and being so vulnerable with us

You are special, 4 interpretations in a 4 minute song. I'll speak about a reality I understand too well. Trauma leaves a scar which never goes away. NEVER GOES AWAY! The intensity lessens, but the wound is there forever. The problem, this scar is on the inside, hidden in your memories and emotions, lurking, lurking, waiting to say "I'm still here!" The scar on the face was never explained in the first 2 videos, but we get hints in this 3rd MV. Suga understands that the internal scar will remain, but one can blossom, even with that wound. One can have a good life, in spite of the trauma. Many do, Suga did, does and I hope he always will. Still, you must remain vigilant against this internal enemy, never allowing it win. Fighting.

The agency big hit said that they would help suga about his school payments and his shoulder surgery if suga would said it earlier. In 2020 suga just had his shoulder surgery, so many award shows he did'nt attend. Its been like a month he was gone for surgery recover

The almond scene is a reference to the book "Almond". The main character has a smaller Amygdala than normal, and it causes him to have trouble processing his emotions. I haven't read it yet but apparently his mom tells him that eating almonds can help him cure the "almond, in his brain

Damn it I’m crying again!😭 Also you’re right, while he was still a trainee he was secretly still working as a delivery man to pay his school tuition. When the accident happened he didn’t immediately tell the company because he was afraid they wouldn’t let him debut, but once he told them, they said he should’ve told them sooner and they helped him pay his tuition. And yes in 2020 he finally got surgery to hell his shoulder. P.s I’m totally fine with you pausing, especially right now because it gives me time to stop cry and listen to your thoughts.💜

Yoongi’s explanation to staff during that Amygdala MV meeting: “This is the story of my life, you know. Before I reached the age of 20, I'd already had a lot of things going on in my life. I really want to talk about how I got the scar over my eye in this song. In a way, we're responsible for all our own wounds and scars. No one can dodge the first arrow of trouble, of course, but when that second arrow flies at you, you've chosen to just stand there and get hit, rather than learn from the first time.” -YOONGI

My pet theory at present is that the "I don't know your name" may refer to the different personas he's presented over the years. Some of them we know - but who's to say there aren't others, or that there will be a new solo identity now that he's done with Agust D. So the angry, hurt one who self-harms would be Agust D, an outlet for his angry, depressed self over the years. The sweet-faced, unscarred deliveryguy might be Suga, the BTS member who becomes a "team player" and a caring hyung (older brother) who tries to unlock/free the hurt part of himself. The cynical observer with the nuts in the corner - could be Gloss, his teenage underground rap persona, cynical and powerless. And then there's Artist!Yoongi, the one with a voice, a presence, who is free to move between the inner and outer self. I wish he'd had the option to release and heal Agust D in the end, but apparently he said (in interviews about Haegeum) that he is older, calmer, finding it easier to forgive or let go, and was ready to "retire" Agust D (for now) - which he did in a Very Final Manner at the end of Haegeum. So maybe that's a lesson to learn as well - sometimes, you compartmentalize and repress and then outgrow - not every traumatized and hurt part of yourself HAS to be incorporated into your present self, some are shed along the way...

yoongi said to watch daechwita, haegeum, n amygdala together, I thought the amygdala mv would be a direct continuation of a fictional story. I never thought he would share how his character got his scar by showing his own cycle of self-inflicted wounds in response to his traumas.

4:40 My interpretation is that the grey room Yoongi’s in right now is his AMYGDALA(He said it’s where your trauma is stored). I feel like that’s him inside his mind reliving the trauma of his accident. Maybe him cutting himself represents the pain you go through as you relive those fears. Also when it shows him sitting there eating almonds, it also shows him swallowing pills. I think that might be another trauma, maybe that refers to what Yoongi said he didn’t hesitate to do in his song The Last. In that song his therapist asked him a question that was bleeped out, many ARMYs say it was about self harm/suicide. This is just my interpretation and I don’t believe Yoongi has ever confirmed what the question was.

He himself said that the Amygdala is a defense mechanism. We store trauma so that we can protect ourselves from it in the future. So I think that's why the lyrics ask the Amygdala to save him. He gets trapped in the trauma and it brings him pain instead of saving him from getting hurt again (at least that's how I perceived it). Him crawling towards the door to me is twofold. The door is an escape either way, but from one point of view he's trying to go towards the light and failing (this could be a metaphor for something very dark) and the other is the idea of BTS's door which is being brave and stepping outside into something new in order to grow. Either way, I see it that within this song, he couldn't escape his trauma.

It's so hard for me to listen to this song...almost 10 months and a few notes from it could bring me to tears... I'm having a lot of very dark days, but not close to everything he went through. I saw someone told you some of what's going on. YES, the AMYGDALA is a part of the brain that stores memories, trauma. When he was born, his mother was very sick. He lived with his grandparents for some time. Yoongi comes from a very poor family. they didn't want him to do music at all. there were beating involved to what I know. they throw away his music that he wrote. he started as an underground rapper when he was about 14 I think called snow. from what I saw and know, he is in a good place with his parents now (There's footage- They came to a conert on parents day and in the middle of a concert he spotted them, bowed on the ground crying...) When he was a trainee, as well as the long training hours he was also a delivery man (not aloud), but he didn't have money to even eat, he disocateled his shoulder in an accident and didn't tell anyone cause he though they would throw him out\wouldn't debut him. so he went through everything, for 10 years withought proper treatment. Until he couldn't even hold a water bottle, got shots to the shoulder before performances. got surgery and treatment finally in 2020...Don't know why that took so long, maybe he pushed it away as being fine until it wasn't. He lost a good friend to drugs (he's got a song about it, forgot It's name...). Almost got there with him to what I remember. Doesn't really have friends outside of BTS. Depression and other stuff. He talked about crying alone...many times. That sometimes he sees members crying, not knowing what to do to help them, cause he doesn't know how to help himeself. Said that every time they won an award it only made him afraid that that would be the end for them, for him, instead of making him happy, Cause he felt pressure to always create the next hit, afraid of what will happen if he couldn't create music anymore, if that was over. Only 3/4 years ago he started to "set goal", talked about winning in a positive way (That made me happy. So happy). about his names... there's Yoongi and stage Suga of BTS. Agust D is a "between name" where he let's all of his "Demons" out... Where he freely talks about his depression, loneliness, death, loss. He's got one song where he says "Yoongi is dead" or "I killed Yoongi" He said that music is his escape, spends days in the recording room. says It's like prison and freedom at the same time (something like that) I really really look up to him. Words can't even describe how much appriciation I have for him. He worked so hard...Still is. I hope that this millitary "break" (for them It's a break...) will do all of them good. I hope it will do him good :D -- Jeez, why do I talk so much?! --

Some people on Twitter think that this scar is Yoongi's trauma, and gangster Yoongi represents a stage in which he finally heals from it. I have the theory that the scar is not a representation of the trauma, it's "Amygdala-Yoongi" trying to get rid of the traumatic memories by giving himself a "brain surgery" with the only resources he has at hand (and failing).

From what I've been informed theres a segment of ARMY who's going around mass reporting videos until they get pulled down because they think reacting to a song about Yoongi's trauma is disrespectful. I personally don't see it as disrespectful (unless the person says something disrespectful in the reaction which I would never do) as I feel like he wouldn't have shared it with us if he didn't feel comfortable with us hearing/discussing it, but that's just my opinion as a fellow artist.
