Part of me was disappointed by the lack of labor-saving automation in this factory, but it appears that the business is simply too small in volume and size to warrant the high levels of investment needed to go for mass levels of production. Small boutique businesses like these are what keeps Korean industry going and contributing to the economy in ways that the public don't see or understand. Nice one, FM!

As I grow older I find greater appreciation for products which are made more directly by humans. With modern automation techniques it's possible to built nearly infinite shit with very little human toil beyond maintaining and building the automation equipment. But if we automate everything, the production of everything becomes a no longer human endeavour, resulting in excess products and a depleted planet but for what purpose? If the point of human existence is to collect and curate a bunch of qualia and individual subjective experiences in the handful of years our biological mechanisms remain functional, then the application of energy and interest in the personal production of artefacts - which is arguably one of the single most human-defining attributes in the few hundred thousand to few millions year bipedal hominids have existed - is an inalienable part of the human lifecycle.

Beautiful camera work! I was expecting the handles to be peened over, but it makes it easier for home sharpening. And the packaging is very nice.

it's shocking that these scissors are so inexpensive considering the fact that they're fully handmade. i looked them up expecting them to be $50 USD but they're $25 for the 7.8" and $35 for the 8.6" (the ones in the video). wild
