Using a refillable marker helps to alleviate issues with characters become faint over time. AusPen has, in my opinion, the best system as far as how the marker performs over the long term, and the Pilot V Board Master is a close 2nd. The only reason that the Pilot takes 2nd place is that the nibs aren't replaceable like they are in the AusPen.

With the white boards, you have to maintain it with the proper cleaner. Quite often, the maintenance workers of a school/university will use excessively harsh chemicals that wear down the coating. The type of board also matters. Tempered glass boards will never leave marks. Porcelain and even more so melamine boards can be prone to streaking and ghosting when the marker is left on for prolonged periods.

Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% all about preserving Old World Craftsmanship & believing we need to train younger generations in the ways of keeping trades alive; blackboards are a thing of the past in schools, & they need to update to Whiteboards (or other electronic visual aids) The reason is quite simple: Health of students & teachers. I come from a background in construction and plant mechanics. Quite often in the past we had to change the way certain things were done, often for health related reasons. Blackboards create a LOT of dust. When I was attending High School back in the 1980's, my school had already started to change over to whiteboards even back then. When we asked the staff why, they simply responded that it was due to the effects of dust. Blackboards & chalk do have their place in the world, along with the trades people that preserve their heritage. I just don't thinks schools are that place anymore.

This blackboard that uses chalk to write on is very old and is no longer used at all in our schools in Saudi Arabia, it has been replaced by a whiteboard that uses pens to write on instead of chalk

Should be outlawed. Ever since the days of Windows 3.1, there where plenty of digital boards in which students and teachers could use the stylus to do things with each other. These things just don't cut it anymore, if you want to learn nice and well, use the digital boards with the stylus. NEC is a Japanese company itself and should had swept all of the Japanese schools with digital boards, but they did not want to.

@Ithecastic Absolutely agree! Sometimes "old-school" is simply better.

I've been driving Japanese cars for 35 years! Beautiful cars, and then it turns out that they make such high-quality and beautiful school boards! Bravo! Greetings from Vladivostok!

Because chalkboards originally were made of slate, and slate is a dark grey/black color

You can certainly call it a "greenboard" if you'd like. I attended "college" in the 1970s in the USA, and we called our chalkboards "greenboards." [it's a bit more descriptive]
