What I find interesting is that all these same problems or more happen with combustion or gas cars. They still have electrical, engine problems and recalls, but doesn't seem to stop anyone from buying. It could be said that some non-electric cars are not "ready for primetime" as well. They all are machines, and machines will have problems.

Had my Ioniq 5 limited since February. The only issue I have experienced is that the charge port door does not open when you press it - never has since the day I bought it. However, I usually use my key fob or with voice command inside the car when I pull up to a charging station. I figure that I will have that addressed at one of the upcoming service visits. I love my Ioniq 5 and hope that none of the issues mentioned occur with mine. Mine has over 14K miles on it so far.

Hopefully you don't get the 12V battery drain issue. It also started with the charge port not opening anymore with the button. Several weeks later the 12V drained itself over and over again. Fixed the problem with the solution shown in the video. Padding at the charge port to restore clearance between the button and the flap. Afterwards no problems anymore. A tip from my side: Hold your finger into the port when it closes. It won't hurt. Afterwards, let the finger go and try again if you can open it now directly by pressing on the port. Should work but is only a quick fix, not a permanent fix.

Chargers port door not opening on button press is an indication that you are affected by the known problem and your 12v may likely get drained therefore. Try putting some tape between the door next to the button to prevent it from pressing on it when it closes

My Ioniq 5 (with only 1200 miles) gave an emergency power supply code and instructed to immediately stop driving. Having been late in the evening and in a bad neighborhood, I drove the last 2 miles home. With 1 mile to go, the car would only reach 20 miles per hour. After 5 days at the dealer, they informed me that the ICCU needs replacing. They tell me that the part is on backorder, and there is currently no time estimate on when they will receive the part. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR SIX WEEKS!

Update on my 2023 Ioniq 5 that has never been able to fast DC charge, yesterday my dealer replaced the VCMS module and that did not fix the DC charging issue. After 6 service visits and multiple replacement parts I will be talking to Hyundai for a new replacement car as my dealer has one that a customer ordered and did not take delivery. My purchase date was mid October 2022 so after 7 months of not being able to road trip this car (that was the reason why we bought it) our second car is a 2020 Kia Soul EV limited (we are in Canada).

My 3 month old Ioniq 5 lost all ac in the middle of brutal August weather. When I brought it into the dealer it turned out that the heat was no longer working as well. After trying all sorts of easier fixes, it was established that 2 modules needed to be replaced, which took a while to arrive, but after installing the climate system seems to be working fine.

Found that if you power up without holding down the brake pedal that the car will go into N and will not go into D or R. Solution was to put your foot on the brake. Power the car OFF ... keep your foot on the brake and power on. This takes it out of accessory mode and allows you to put it in gear...again, always with your foot on the brake pedal. Hyundai/Kia need to change the way this accessory/utility/drive mode is activated. Would suggest that the car always uses the HP battery when the power button is depressed to avoid draining the 12 volt battery. Also found my overhead light was on one morning when I came out to get in the car. NOT GOOD. Now have to check that it did not get turned on before leaving the vehicle. Again.. Tesla defeats that problem by shutting the car down after a certain time period of no one in the car. It makes the car 'idiot' proof in this regard.

I think the phantom problem described in the video is more serious than what you describe and is common. I’ve experienced it myself with rental Ioniq 5s and it was frustrating not to be able to get the car to switch on or off for quite some time. It seems to have been an issue with earlier models, probably fixed in the meantime with software updates.

Nicely done! I'm one of the first (8/2021) Ioniq 5 P45 (full trim, with solar panel) owners in Germany. I've had 3 issues with this car: - zombie mode 2 times: one occures after infotainment update, the other one after preheating via bluelink. 10er wrench was very helpful 😁 - peeling trim issue: seemed to be frequent but was immediately fixed (warranty) - "check electrical system": in my case hv battery failure. spare modules are not available now, still waiting for 4 month! Could be a buyback if it could not be repaired till deadline. (Others report ICCU failure and must be replaced. Spare parts are also not available now.) These issues are not very frequent, less than 1/1000 Battery preconditioning is now available in Germany! 2 control units need to be updated at hyundai dealership, infotainment update must be newer than 1/2022.

I guess the reason why so many Ioniq 5 cars are for sale with less than 15000km in used car dealers all around Europe could be explained by these problems people are having. So even if the percentage of faulty cars is low, I think most of the people returning (buyback) or selling the car so early before they get caught by the depreciation of a problematic car, did it because of repeated issues. Therefore a higher percentage of Ioniq 5 in the used car market could be lemons.

I have a similar issue to the Check Electric Vehicle system. I bought mine 14 miles, drove 260 miles the first day. The next day, my “Check electric Vehicle system” light came on. It has been in the shop Twice now , the first time I was told “It needed an update”. Got the car back, the light came on. 2nd time I was told “The actuator stopped working” had the part replaced, the light came on. I’ll be taking mine back tomorrow, I hope they can fix it , if not Hyundai will be looking to buy my car back as well 😅

9500mi on my Ioniq 5 SE and very few problems so far. One infotainment glitch after updating it, which resolved after turning it off for 30 minutes. Rear seatbelts are harder to use than they should be. The adaptive cruise control HATES heavy rain where it cannot see the lane markings; it disables in anything other than light rain. Still the best vehicle I've ever owned, electric or not

Just got mine last night. I have been trying for months to find one or at least and EV6 to test drive and they would either be sold before they even arrived or as I was arriving to the dealership. So i was going back towards Tesla, drove the Kona and thought it was pretty good but placed a Tesla back on order "I should have waited". Randomly got an email from my Hyundai rep that he had one, sure enough got there and someone was already driving it but they did not buy. "My turn!!" Test drove it yesterday evening and I love it. Do you know if I can charge it on the Tesla home wall charge with the Tesla to J1772 adapter? The Lectron site says/shows that we can. I hope to have it tomorrow. I am very impressed with the ride quality. Well done Hyundai.

First days of ownership the heating was on, when it was 12-15c outside, but when temperature dropped, the heat dissappeared and the bluelink preheat stopped to work. I had an ioniq phev which has a horrific energy drain issue which killed the 12 v battery frequently. Also gave me warning messages about not using the stereo when the engine wasn’t running (despite the fact I was driving on the motorway at the time!) They made me pay for a new battery after 13 months from new then when it happened again 6 months later wanted me to pay again. When I asked them to properly fault find they told me it would be 4 weeks as they’d have to get an engineer from Hyundai in (even though they were a main dealer). The guy told me that nobody really understood the Evs. Needless to say I didn’t get another Hyundai after that.

  • @mowburnt

    @mowburnt

As there is no alternator on the ioniq phev it charges off the traction battery. Used to get loads of “battery saver” warnings over night even though nothing was plugged in to the car and no doors open or lights on. This happened regardless of whether the car was charging or not and of the miles I’d done. There was talk in the us about issues with the bms circuitry causing similar issues but never figured it out. I kept pretty detailed logs but Hyundai weren’t interested as it didn’t fit on their forms! They replaced the charging door “prong” but that did nothing.

Very unfortunate. I've had an Outlander PHEV for 8 years. It has had the traction battery replaced under warranty because I kicked up a fuss about excessive degradation. The only other problem was the cruise control switch on the steering wheel which needed to be replaced. Still on the original 12V battery!

My car was one year and one day old and 17,500 Miles when my speed dropped from 40 to 20 mph. I had not given any thought to this malfunction that I’ve been hearing about until it happened to me. I still think the ionic 5 is the best car I’ve ever driven. However, this malfunction for which there is no fix except to replace the part and hope it doesn’t happen anytime soon makes it really hard to keep loving this car. My car has been at the dealer since June 22 and they have no idea when the new part will arrive. I have initiated a buyback process.

I have a '23 Ioniq 5 Limited. I'm now at around 11K miles. Overall, I have really enjoyed the car. However, I have had AC Level 2 charging problems, and there is no fix to date. There was a TSB that changed the charging so that instead of shutting off charging entirely, the charging speed is now downgraded to keep the car charging. But I still get notifications on my phone in Bluelink that the car has stopped charging. The dealership is very tight-lipped. At first, they said they weren't aware of any problems, even though the class-action lawsuit against Hyundai for this issue had already been filed. As of now, they admit to knowing that 'some cars have this problem,' but really, there isn't a fix. It is a poorly designed charge port, whereby it overheats. It will be interesting to see if they fix this with the new '25s that are coming out and Hyundai's redesign and adoption of the Tesla charge port (NACS) coming at the end of the year on the new models. I don't know how that leaves those of us with the J1772/CCS connectors. It would be great if they could switch our connectors to the new ones. The other problem I've been having has been a rattling tailgate. This is a recent thing. There is also a TSB (technical service bulletin) that addresses this, and I've had the car in twice because the first time didn't really fix it. This time, it is quiet. Fingers crossed it lasts. Other than that, generally, the car is a dream. I wish the turning radius were better. They could definitely improve that, but it's more of a shortcoming than a problem.

Thanks for your updated reporting on the Hyundai ionic five and the Kia EV 6. Since you are the research king I do have one issue that I took to the dealer and they did not have the proper tools for the situation. It was the adjustment of the headlights. In several blogs drivers who have the Kia EV six have noticed that their headlights are low in beam aiming. The answer in the UK was take it to the dealer and they will adjust the headlights. There are two holes that drop down through where the headlight should be adjusted but the dealer here in Montana did not have the tool. A dealership in Spokane Washington didn’t understand what tool is necessary either so if you have access to any kind of research that would be very helpful. About which tool I need to adjust headlights however at this point I think because it’s under warranty I want the Dealership to perform their civic duty. But if you find out anything let me know. I can see fine with the headlamps it’s just that I can tell that they are aim slightly by 1 1/2° low and they should be a little higher so the high beams are more focused and the low beams don’t look like fog lights. if you have any information please forward it to me. Or at least answer the comment section and I will get the information from there if you need my email address I will provide it for you thank you very much again for all you do and all the research you do. By the way I do love my EV six so far I don’t seem to have the electrical problems like the ionic five. Have a good day and happy travels

I had the same rear hatch rattle. They ended up putting washers in the latch on the left and right side. No rattle at all now. I have my car in for a ghost drain on the 12 volt. The dealer is so incompetent they couldn’t figure it out. Instead just put a new 12 volt battery in it. Of course next day battery is dead. Took it back told them it was a drain on the infotainment fuse after I did 3 minutes of testing myself. Car has been in the dealer for over a month. They ordered a new part for the charging system to the 12 11:07 volt. I assume this wore out because the charging light was on almost always. This remedy still won’t fix the drain. I’m getting an attorney and working on a lemon buy back if they fail to get resolved on this repair.

Hello. My Ioniq 5 is a disaster! My 12 volt battery has a phantom drain that the dealership cannot pinpoint. They’ve changed my 12 volt twice, replaced my junction block, my AVN (main head unit) and checked the charge door. Hyundai has agreed to buy my car back. Papers are filed and I’m awaiting an offer. I’m told, I will lose my cost of tinting and battery jumper. My plan is to buy another RWD limited. If that one strands us, it will be “goodbye “ to Hyundai.

My 10-month old 2022 Ioniq 5 RWD SEL recently displayed a "stop vehicle check power supply" warning. I had the car towed to the nearest hyundai authorized ioniq 5 service location. At the time it was towed, the 77 KWh battery was charged to about 70% and there was no indication that the 12-volt had discharged. However, the next day when I went to the dealer my car was sitting in the parking lot with its doors unlocked. The 12-volt must have drained while the car was being towed or while parked at the dealer lot. I am waiting for a diagnosis which I hope to get tomorrow from the Hyundai dealer.

I had it towed to Fresno from Visalia on Monday and the 12 volt battery died in the Lithia Hyundai parking lot. It sits there now. I wish that that my local dealer would sell and service electric cars. The 50 mile tow cost nearly $500. Lithia is so swamped that they will not even look at it for 5 days. I need to look at my warrantee to see if I can be reimbursed.

I have a 2023 Ioniq 5 that had a 12V battery problem. I'm hopeful that a software update fixed it. I love driving the car and like the roomy feel. My problem is that it won't charge quickly. I used a level 3 fast charger the first time and the estimated time to charge was 2 hours. I charged from about 10% to 70% in 1 hour 20 minutes. It wasn't a terribly cold day; 3C. The second time I charged it was about 3C, but I had pre-conditioned the battery. This wasn't easy because I had to find the charging station I was going to and it didn't show on the car's map. It took 44 minutes to charge from 40% to 80% at a level 3 charger. Does anyone have any advice? I wonder if I need to change some settings, but my dealer doesn't know and I can't find anything online.

I bought a Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric RWD PRE in 2022. My first maintenance service costed $701 CAD in dealer place. Was it reasonable? I think the maintain service price $701 is not reasonable. Most people told me that the Electric cars need less maintenance service items. The maintenance service of my 2018 Honda CRV was less than $100 CAD. If the maintenance service is so expensive, why should we buy Ioniq 5?

I bought an Ioniq 5 four months ago at 2500 miles both the air conditioning and the heating stopped working. The fan blows what ever the ambient air is outside. In my area there are two dealerships told me I had to wait over a month just to bring the car in and have it checked. From what I have learned about this problem online it is common enough to have several videos about it and they all say it is the AC control module which controls both the heating and air. I'm still waiting for my appointment. I am regretting my purchase.

So I have had my 2022 SEL AWD Ioniq 5 since February 2022....8 months later (almost to the day) i experienced a 12v battery issue where i got to the car and the battery was dead. All electronics were dead and i couldn't get into the car without taking the key out of the fob and manually unlocking the door. I was able to successfully jump the car and drive off but every time i got back in the car it was dead. It has been at the dealer ever since and they cannot figure out why the main battery is not charging the 12v. They have run tests and even replaced the 12v battery. It doesnt die as quick but it still dies after sitting for a day or two. I do use blue link a couple times a day to start climate or check the battery level but I haven't had an issue with multiple requests a day for 8 months. If anyone has any ideas or solutions that I can share with my dealer that would be quite helpful. Thank you!

Diagnosis from Hyundai service indicates failure of the ICCU and a high voltage fuse. I would like to know how many 2022 Ioniq 5 owners are experiencing this problem and whether simply replacing these parts (on backorder like others have reported) will solve "the problem" or whether there is a design problem that will cause it to recur periodically. Ioniq 5 is a great EV, but this problem and the long delay in getting it fixed kind of ruins the owner experience.

In the same exact issue but after 95 days “diagnosing” and throwing parts at my 2022 ioniq SE Hyundai is going to buy it back. Just got the letter today. I bought a Tesla 2023 Y anticipating the buy back of my ioniq 5 so that’s good. Honestly the ioniq 5 is an amazing car I loved everything about it. However i’m completely in love with my Tesla. The only thing that I see the ioniq do better is a quieter ride. To be fair I’ve only put 300 miles on my model Y and 14000 on my ioniq so maybe that will change as I get more use. With the price drop on Tesla this brings the tesla to the same price. I would love to know if anyone can get the resolution on that drain. If you get it will you please let me know? Good luck hope it works out for you.

BEVs are not the answer, the massive CO2 made during manufacture, then trying to recycle make them WORSE than a ICE vehicle. VW did a recent estimation that a BEV needs to be driven 100k MILES to break even on CO2, then when the massive amt. of energy consumed to try and recycle battery, puts BEVs WAY AHEAD on CO2 produced. A miniscule amount of metals are recovered, and ZERO Lithium is recovered. Also the THOUSANDS of gallons of water used to process a small amount of lithium, during mining is another disaster. People act as if these cars/batteries are made in a vacuum, and just magically appear, without any environmental damage.
