Some corrections: -When you press the exit button it does STOP the app completely, only when it is the default launcher it will keep running. Android does keep it in memory (recents) but it is stopped. -The temperature next to the battery is the BATTERY temperature. It is important to know because batteries do not charge above 45'C. Also noticed some UI elements (backgrounds) are missing in the app, either the screen recording software was messing up or you have your tablet setup for high contrast. Also in the map view you probably would enjoy the TOPO map style which you can change in the Map view left menu > Map Type. Another thing you should make sure you have is the screen rotation locked to prevent the screen from rotating while riding. Whats missing in the app development: Route Calculation, GPX Recorder, POI search, File Sync and Manager (for GPX files and Saved Locations/POI/Waypoints) to sync among various devices and to manage them in the website, Friends Riding List where you can see everyone on the map while riding, the OBD view is like at 10% only, and many other things.... Thank you for your video!

Great app guys. It's the first time I've seen it. Is there any way to remove the maximum speed section of the speedo screen? Not everyone understands how quickly a bike can get to silly (fun) speeds and how little time we might be at that speed.

Glad to see this review. I run this on my 690 Enduro, Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 in a RAM mount that is powered to charge the tablet. I put a couple mapping programs on it (GAIA, Earthmate, of course Google Maps and a few others). You can use the tablet to move files off of SD cards and onto a back-up drive, if you are taking multi-day trips. ALSO... DeWalt and others make safety glasses that have readers built into them (tinted and clear). So I can ride, day or night, visor up, visor down with or without goggles still have eye protection and still be able to read the map! WIN!

I use this on a Samsung Tab Active 3. Yes, it's a bit more expensive than your tablet, but it's *-proof. Water,- dust, heat, cold-proof. It's built to militairy spec, so it should be able to function even in desert temps without a glitch. Also, the touchscreen works with gloves (not big fat wintergloves), and also has a pen, if you want to draw or use with your big fat wintergloves. On the bike it will get a lot of what's bad for a tablet: vibrations, heat, cold, wet, so I thought a rugged tablet would be a better choice. And since Samsung markets this tablet as an enterprise device, you get 4 years of upgrades guaranteed. I'm very happy with it.

Wow! What a great video. This has really got me thinking about using my Samsung Galaxy tablet in a similar way to yourself. I have been considering buying the Carpe Iter tablet from Thork Racing but was unsure about how it might work for me. This video shows that there are a lot of options open to me and I am now giving serious thought to buying the Caper tablet. Without this video I doubt I would have been brave enough (it's expensive). I would really love to see an update to this video when you have more information AND when you find a better waterproof case and a better mount for the tablet. Many thanks for this. Cheers, Phil.

Samsung Tab active3 is your best 8 inch tablet option. Gamechanger. Waterproof IP68. Military spec tough (MIL-STD-810H) designed for gloves. An accessible battery that can be swapped. Buttons on the bezel. 3.5mm jack. S-pen. Wifi and or 4g. Comes with its own toughcase. The 64gb wifi version can be had for less than 600. Team it up with the active3 Ram tab-tite holder and ram mount and you have the perfect adventure bike navigation/ communication setup. Especially when you install the drive mode dashboard. They have done a great job. The 4g version is designed to be used as a phone where necessary. Strange thing that Samsung have not done much to promote it. It was launched here early last year and I've never seen one in JB or HN. They are very popular in industry due to their toughness

I did a similar thing with a tablet to control my drone from my bike. I cot a proper case and put a universal quad mount on the back. Fantastic, works really good. The universal quad lock is the 3m stick on mount for phones etc that don't have a quad lock case. You can then use a quad lock handlebar or stem mount etc. Solid and stable.

Strongly recommend the Samsung Tab Active3 for this. Rugged, so you don't need a case, and it copes with heat, vibrations, dust and water. Better screen for gloves too. Plenty of rugged mounts for it, I use a lockable Brodit/WunderLINQ combo that allows me to lock it into the BMW GPS cradle, and control the tablet with the scroll wheel. (Think BMW Connected Cradle, but without the size and app limitations.) Som Aussie company makes a really nice (and expensive) one as well. Youcan also just make a flat mount and fix it with that heavy duty 3M velcro thingie, works well off road.

Surely there is one in full size that you can cut to size, or even one specific to your device. I don't know if it will work perfectly, although I'm sure it will be able to greatly mitigate the discomfort caused by glare.

I looked at this the other day when I was in Thailand. The map plugin was going to cost me $200 AU I asked on their KZread video of the plugin was transferrable to another device(maybe the 7 lite dies) I have no reply yet. At the prices you have it's not bad. But still. Do you know if the plugin is transferrable.

Hey mate should give Relive a run. Records your GPS location while you ride and then generates a good video of the route at the end with a heap of information about the ride, like average speed, time, amount of altitude, etc.

Am just going thru the mount options on my phone mounted GPS GAIA and DMD 2. After watching this I am now wondering avout the tablet option. I will use GAIA for tracking my route when I'm scouting new tracks. Question. Have you sorted your mounting option for your tablet. I like the samsung Tab am going down to JB's today to acquire one.

Hi Mark. Thank you for great video. Do you have any remote controls on the handlebar (eg. to "roll" up or down the roadbook while driving) or you have to tap the screen? In difficult terrain taking your hand off the handlebar can be a bit uncomfortable...

I really like DMD2 a lot. But there is one thing, I still don't get. If DMD is made to be a "All-in-One" Dashboard, it should be possible to have all the essential information in one display. I would really like to have one Display, which shows me, actual Speed, Trip, and the Map with my planned route. All at once. Like you have it in a car. Why do I have to choose between, knowing where I am, or knowing how fast I´m going. Its passable to have this Split Screen with the Roadbook. But why not with the normal Map?

Hi Mark, I'm going to do this on my Klr and use the Thork racing BT controller and android tablet similar to yours but I want to ditch my speedo, tach and temp gouges and emulate what the Carpe Iter tablet does without spending more than my bike is worth. The speedo is doable because the Thork controller has an input for a speedo reed switch, which I already have, but the rest need to be sent to Bluetooth somehow and relayed to the tablet. Any thoughts?

@Biker Bits The solution is complicated for sure. The simple answer is a Trail tech Vapor for the speedo, tach and temperature and the Thork controller. A bit of an investment.

This has a TFT screen but just be wary that Amoled/oled screens suffer from screen burn in which can be caused by static images on the screen for a prolonged amount of time (similar to oled tv's) if you do happen to ride for hours per day.
