The reason for the filets was to try to muffle the sound of the fish hitting the basket to get weighed
His troll partner dipped and left Jake to face the music on his own.
That was so dangerous. Give the guy that told them to leave a medal.
Also read in an article that other anglers had been suspicious of them for years in other tournaments. In particular some thought that they were catching fish before tournaments and then sneaking them in, and everyone was suspicious that this team never donated their tournament catches to local food banks like everyone else did. Obviously, they didn't want the local food banks to cut open the fish and find the items inside, plus they probably needed the weights back lol
Hats off for the man at the scale......he knew what he was looking at and exposed it. Hats off to the tournament for doing the right thing

Exactly. Almost 34 pounds in 5 low 20” class fish is on par with Biden getting 81 million votes in 2020. No way in hell either happened.
The fishing community is big but very tight. I'm shocked they made it out without getting hands tossed. I have fished the " PRO" tournaments. This has always made me wonder.

I fish on a small local bass league and I’ve seen questionable weigh ins. Where someone weighs a fish, another weighs one visibly larger. And the smaller one weighs more?!?! Everyone looks at each other. When you fish long enough you can come pretty close to guesstimating weights “that’s 4lbs, that’s 3…” etc.
Hats off to everyone keeping their cool ..

Well they probably think they're way too good for fast food work anyways. .....How about Trash Collectors on the back of a garbage truck that seems (to me anyway) like an even worse job. Which I actually have experience or better yet nightmares of even to this day. 👋🙂👍
The weights were wrapped in the fish filets so they’d be harder to feel. Also heard rumors that the filets are from undersized walleye

Easy to say after the event but, you'd imagine a quick run-over from a hand-held metal detector should perhaps, be in the rules? Although, having said that, I've seen (and used) _solid Nylon balls of a similar size and weight,_ on some waters that ban the use of lead weights? (In the UK?) Is it also really true, that these guys, over the years, have benefited by *over $3 million?* That, is some serious cash and/or cash value! Again, just wondering out loud, is there any way of telling if they could have brought some of their catch, from their freezers at home? _Strange they not only had the heaviest but, also the most (5) in the haul?_
Professional fishers? No- They're professional CHEATS! They'll never be able to catch so much as a guppy without being suspect. They better NEVER show their faces at my ponds!!
I would guess the fillet is too keep the weights in the stomach as a stop. Only reason I can think of using them.

I watched another video earlier on this topic and to enlighten you ChiCityYaker, these two professional fishermen Jake Runyan & Chase Cominsky did rake in millions over the years winning boats, and $300,000 tournament first place prize in one fishing event and more that added up to making millions of dollars in this sport!!!

Thanks for sharing that info! I think it's safe to say that their winnings aren't reflective of what the average pro angler is making per year. Considering they may have cheated in previous years to amass those hundreds of thousands, if not, potentially millions in prizes. That is what I meant by saying being a Pro Angler isn't a career where you're raking in millions per year just from tournament winnings. Perhaps over an entire career.
@paullangdon9575

Well if they cheated in the past it worked well. I’m almost laughing at all the reaction on this because you wouldn’t believe all the cheating that goes on up in Eastern Ontario lol. Some guy named Tim & his partners (and others) stuffing weights into minnows then into bass. Widespread. Some of us will never do the tournament thing here.
The fish filiet was most likely to add cushion because one of the weights were bulging

@@ChiCityYaker 👍I'll echo that 100% my friend, you actually brought a massive story, and actually breathed real life into it! Well done, excellent presentation!👍
2020 there was a cheating incident on lake Powell in Utah. 2009 there was a similar cheating incident in Texas. In that case the guy put a 1lb lead weight in a 9lb bass. The TD noticed that the fish immediately sunk and stayed at the bottom of the holding tank.
I can tell by the type of sunglasses he’s wearing that he ain’t alright. 😂
They pushed their scam too far and got caught... It was Greed. Period
Some of those weights legit weigh a pound. The tournament director saw their 5 fish and figured they weighed about 20-22lbs and they weighed 34lbs. He knew something wasn't right and told Jake that he needed to check his fish and that's when he felt the lead weights. I'm pretty sure he'll be banned for life from fishing any future tournaments.
Why aren’t organizers doing live release tournaments?
Get ready for fish X-rays at the tournaments. Honestly surprised that’s not already a standard. It would be super cheap and easy to set up a tank a to measure the volume of the fish vs. weight- since most fish will have a predictable composition that would point towards sketchy fish.
If you watch the whole video the police were called with sirens blasting. Ohio was questioning them last I heard.

I haven't done research into tournament prizing to look at the numbers to see 1. what the total prizing per year is and 2. what's the average a pro angler makes. I also wonder if it's different on the species of fish the tournament is focused on so like Bass Tournament vs. Walleye. I think it can be a very volatile career considering you only cash a decent check if you place high enough and then you have to be able to do that consistently. Not easy work at all. I respect those guys that make it a career.
@paullangdon9575
Жыл бұрын
We can thank the fishing gear companies for turning this into a commercialized sport… a racket pumped up then out to all the guys who fell for this. Would be a lot less volatile if prize money was spread out much more widely. I was never a sucker for the tournament thing. So who’s the big winner? The guy with the heaviest weight? Or the companies who tell ya to buy this year’s gear cuz last year’s won’t work any longer lol?
the fish fillets were put in to keep the weights from clanging together.
I guess one of these guys failed a polygraph last year in a big tournament and lost out on a 6 figure pay day. Apparently they even got an attorney and tried to sue over it. Looks like they finally got what was coming to them.

Exactly. “Cheaters never win, and winners never cheat!”!
I wonder why they don’t wand the winner’s fish for the big tournaments.
I need the guy with the track suit POV he was on that shit lol he said ooo and found legit the best view point and I am here for it
Those 2 guys won a $100,000 boat package
Weights were 12 ounces each, for a total of 8 pounds. The filets were used to hold the weights in place and hide them from view if someone were to look in their mouths. In Ohio, it is a felony to cheat in a tournament. They were DQ'd from the Fall Brawl last year, but won the Walleye Slam with the same fish that was DQ'd in the Brawl. Everyone knew they were cheating, but tournament directors wouldn't touch them for fear of lawsuits which they threatened... until Friday.

Thanks for sharing that backstory and helping to give more context.
Word has it that piece of human debris is working the fry machine at McDonald's. Now we know why they don't fill the large frie boxes up all the way.
The fillets kept the weights from banging into one another and making noise.
Big money and big prizes attract all kinds of characters. Glad they got caught like a fish.
They put the fillets in to hold the weights from falling back out.
The fillets were not for weight, they were to stop the lead weights from bumping around making noise.
The filet was to stop the weights from falling out. They were a plug.
@ChiCityYaker
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for clarifying that. Many people that never thought to ever cheat, like myself, didn't know why that would be in them.
@Simfight

@@ChiCityYaker Once I saw the filets, I knew it wasn't just weight. They have been at this for awhile, I'm guessing.
A pair of pliers 🤣
Could just be accumulated heavy metals no? Bahahaha
I don’t understand this at all. They found approximately 8lbs of weight in the fish. That means that they still would have won the tournament even without the weights. They got extremely greedy here! That’s the only thing I can think of.
I’ve only been fishing a couple years. I know nothing about the Pro Tournaments. I imagine Sponsorship Money can be at stake, so not just winnings. What do tournaments do for going forward? This may be silly but If Live Scope costs thousands then why not a fish scanner? Maybe after this settles down someone can work with Jake to learn as much as they can about cheating, methods used, and what can be done to prevent it. Are there others doing it??
The fish fillet will eliminate the weights rattling and clinking around making noise. Sick!
i think the filet was there to try to cushion the lead weights from being felt
the filet was to cover the noise of weights hitting each other in the gut
This is so disgusting to me. Just saw the clip and it's so infuriating. These guys are done. Fisherman don't forget or forgive cheating.

No they don’t forgive judging from all the arguing they do over who got where first, what fishing areas they think they own temporarily or how close or far one boat is to another. What a racket to get into lolol.
I bet he has the “weight” of the fishing world on his shoulders.
Those egg sinkers are 8 oz a piece
Those weights are at least 8 ounces each
These guys are lucky they weren't made into fish bait
They put the fillet of fish inside in case someone looked maybe they wouldn't be able to tell but then again they put the lead weights in also
Over the past few years they have amassed over $3 million in tournament wins.
I think they were using the fish filets to wrap the sinkers to prevent the sinkers from making noise and hitting each other during weigh-in.

not sure about this tournaments.. but in the past there have been people caught cheating who were forced to repay all of their winnings fro the srason, plus losing their endorsements, and depending on the contracts for the endorsements, they could also be forced to repay any moniew they have made from them

I think there are talks of opening an investigation into this team for that reason, to repay all of their previous tournament winnings. They also won the boat they were using from a past tournament. Also idk if this is true but another pro angler KZreadr said the state this happened in has a law that considers fraudgently obtaining prize money over $1000 is considered a felony. I believe the top prize here was either $30k or $45k
