These late 90s early noughties games are so classy looking. No planeswalkers or overpowered creatures, it feels cozy.

@@057wolf This is Standard LMAO and only a couple of sets ago people were tapping their Tolarian Academy for 5 mana on turn 2. Much more unhealthy game especially with Black Lotus in the very first set and originally intended without a 4 card limit, making the Black Lotus/Ancestral Recall/Lightning Bolt deck with a single Timetwister for good measure a turn 1 kill every single game. The game has matured very well and people who actually know game design worked their asses off for literal decades to fix it. The fact that you played your 6 man 3/5s without an ETB to get it destroyed by a Murder at that time just shows how little the people in your Meta understood the game. I mean you could've and in hindsight should've gotten 4 Black Lotus back then; i think they were only 150$ at the time.

I played Kai in round 2 this pro tour. He went on to go 4-0 in my draft and i went 3-1 only losing to him.

It's spelled Kai Budde, it's read The G.O.A.T.

no sleeves - these were different times but gives me distress now

Sleeves were around, just not used on camera cause of glare.

ahneemoney069 For these official tournaments they've started sleeving them in drafts just because players are more accustomed to handling sleeved cards and because it just makes it look nicer. That and the sponsors can put their card sleeves in the focus. So for high level tournament, there's a lot of reason to bother

+bipolarprobe That and when this game happend magic was only a few years old, even back then I do not think a black lotus was worth that much, it was not a collectors thing yet. the player base was probably 1/10th of what it is today,

Sleeves were banned from mtg events for several years in the early days to prevent cheating. I think it was either 2002 or 2003 when they were allowed again.
